Opposite hitter from Italy signs with Nebraska volleyball

Opposite hitter from Italy signs with Nebraska volleyball The Nebraska volleyball team added Virginia Adriano to its roster for the 2025 season. Adriano is a 6-foot-5-inch opposite hitter from Turin, Italy. She most recently played for Bergamo in Serie A1, Italy's top professional league. Her club finished eighth place in the 14-team league, and she averaged 2.39 kills per set with a .385 hitting percentage. Adriano has won multiple international volleyball medals with Italy. In 2024, she won a gold medal at the European Championships with the U23 team, finished second with Italy at the U21 World Championship in 2023, and won gold at the European Championships in 2022 with Italy's U19 squad. Husker head coach Dani Busboom Kelly believes that Adriano's international experience will greatly benefit her as she transitions to America. "Virginia is an opposite hitter with great size who has a ton of high-level international experience, and we are thrilled she wants to come overseas and play for Nebraska. Virginia is a well-balanced player in terms of her attack, block and serve. She will be a great addition to our program." Adriano joins a Husker team quite deep at the opposite hitter position. Junior Harper Murray is a 2024 Second Team All-American, Taylor Landfair is the 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year, Skyler Pierce is a former AVCA first-team High School All-American, Teraya Sigler is a two-time Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year and MaxPreps Arizona Player of the Year and Ryan Hunter was the Charlotte Observer North Carolina Player of the Year as a junior but missed her senior year due to injury. Adriano will have three years of NCAA eligibility.
