Eagles sign Toledo safety Maxen Hook to UDFA deal
Eagles sign Toledo safety Maxen Hook to UDFA deal Quinyon Mitchell's college roommate is headed to Philadelphia Per reports, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Toledo safety Maxen Hook to a UDFA deal. Hook, 6-1, 202 pounds, was a four-year starter at Toledo and a former teammate of current Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. The two defensive backs used to be roommates, and we will now reunite in Philadelphia. Across his five-year career at Toledo, Hook compiled 356 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and seven interceptions. He won four-straight placements on all-MAC teams, including three-straight placements on the all-MAC first-team defense from 2022-24. Here is Maxen Hook's scouting report via The Draft Network: Hook thrives near the box. He's at his best when lined up over or near the ball, using his instinct for the run game to consistently make plays. Hook plays with great physicality. He takes on blocks, shoots gaps, and plays with relentless energy, making his presence felt on nearly every snap. Hook's tackling is consistent, and his solid athleticism pairs well with his knack for being around the football. He also flashes good top-end speed, chasing down runners and making sideline-to-sideline plays. With his skill set, Hook also projects as a natural fit as a special teams contributor. In coverage, Hook struggles as his tight hips and stiffness make man coverage a weakness, showing the need to grab and hold receivers too often. In zone coverage, he doesn't display the comfort or awareness you'd expect from a player with his experience. He often drifts into empty areas of the field and does not show the same level of instinct he shows when defending the run. Hook lacks the ball skills and range to excel as a middle-of-the-field safety. Despite some limitations, Hook enters the NFL as a highly productive, experienced safety who excels in the box and thrives near the ball. He's a perfect fit for a scheme that leans on his physicality, instincts, and ability to play the run, without asking him to cover large areas in space. With the right system, Hook has the tools to make an impact." Hook was projected as a Day 3 pick but got injured at the Senior Bowl and didn't participate at the NFL Combine. The Eagles' safety room currently consists of Reed Blankenship, Andrew Mukuba, Sydney Brown, Tristin McCollum, and Lewis Cine. If Hook can impress on special teams, he has a chance to crack the final 53-man roster.

New Palestine football alum Maxen Hook signs with Super Bowl champs after 2025 NFL Draft
Maxen Hook, a former New Palestine High School star who became an All-Mid-American Conference safety at Toledo, signed with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles after as an undrafted free agent. Hook started for the Rockets for four years, reaching a bowl game in each. He compiled 356 tackles, and had 15 passes defended and 7 interceptions. In 2024, he had 107 tackles. Scouts like Hook's relentlessness and discipline, and he is viewed as an immediate special-teams contributor with the possibility of developing into an NFL safety. Hook's former Toledo teammate, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, had a standout rookie season for the Eagles, getting in on 46 tackles with 12 passes defended. He was second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Maxen Hook draft profile Height: 6-0 Weight: 202 pounds Draft value: Third-day pick 40-yard dash: 4.55 seconds Arm length: 31 1/2 inches Hand size: 9 1/8 inches Maxen Hook scouting report Lance Zierlein, "Four-year starter with the size, speed and production to catch the attention of NFL evaluators in the middle rounds. Hook patrols the field with a tangible urgency to fly around and make plays. He's rangy over the top in coverage and plays with tremendous hustle to rack up tackles. His urgency also comes with missed run fits and occasional coverage mistakes when teams use misdirection against him. He has average pop as a tackler but has cut down on his misses. He plays the game with passion and will be an instant contributor on special teams. Hook could develop into a solid backup with the flexibility to play interchangeably at safety." NFL Draft Buzz: "After diving deep into Hook's tape, what stands out is a safety who plays with outstanding discipline and awareness, even if he lacks the athletic traits to be a difference-maker at the next level. His processing speed and tackling technique pop off the screen." Kyle Crabbs, 33rd Team: "Hook showcases sufficient lateral redirection ability, thanks to how he stays under control in pursuit. But his hips do show some added tightness when he's forced to pedal or speed turn in space to flip open and expand his coverage range on the back end. This is a potential limitation for deep post responsibilities against teams that have quarterbacks who can drive the ball outside the numbers downfield." Strengths Relentless pursuit from sideline to sideline Excellent open-field tackler Has tools to play near line of scrimmage Weaknesses Impatience can lead to him getting out of position He's not a top one-on-one or deep ball defender Sometimes has issues shedding blockers Maxen Hook highlights

2025 NFL Draft: Bucs targets who won Day 2 of Senior Bowl practices
The second day of Senior Bowl practices has passed, and the hype train is building for some of the players in attendance. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and every other NFL team are in attendance, but it gives them a hands-on view of players in a unique environment. Several of the players at the all-star game are seen as a fit for the team as it looks to build on a strong 2024 season. Some of those players stood out on Wednesday at practice, and we wanted to share them with you. If we noticed, we know the Bucs noticed. Maxen Hook, SAF, Toledo Maxen Hook and his teammate Darius Alexander are representing Toledo and the MAC very well. Hook showed some decent coverage skills but was beaten in one-on-ones, but that isn't where his specialty sits. What Hook showed was good instincts and change of direction ability that will allow him to be a reliable safety at the next level. Quincy Riley, CB, Louisville The Louisville cornerback has made a name for himself this week by doing the simple things. Through two practices, I have enjoyed watching him do well in coverage and not get himself into any bad situations. With a strong day three and then a good performance in the game, we could have his stock locked into day two of the draft. Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State Noel has been one of my favorite wide receivers in this class for many reasons but mainly his ability to handle contact through the catch. On Wednesday, he made the play for the day with a catch in tight coverage. Add in his ability to be a reliable blocker, and Noel could be one of the biggest winners of the week and a good fit for the Bucs if they lose out on Chris Godwin. Iowa State WR Jaylin Noel is making a NAME for himself at the @SeniorBowl! 🔥 — Fantasy Points (@FantasyPts) January 29, 2025
