WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – A Weston man is facing 18 charges of illegal electronic surveillance following the discovery of a hidden recording device inside a public restroom at Williams College earlier this year. According to the Williamstown Police Department, Maxwell Hall, 21, of Weston, has been charged with 18 counts of Photographing, Videotaping, or Electronically Surveilling a Partially Nude or Nude Person stemming from an incident on January 16 at the college's Lasell Gymnasium. The investigation began after a student reported suspicious activity to the college's Campus Safety Service. The student discovered a disguised surveillance device–appearing as a phone charger–inside a second-floor public restroom at the gym. The report prompted an immediate response from campus officials, who then contacted local law enforcement. Williamstown Police, working with the Berkshire Law Enforcement Task Force and the Berkshire District Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit, launched a joint investigation that led to Hall's identification and subsequent charges. Hall is scheduled to be arraigned in Northern Berkshire District Court on June 2. Authorities are asking anyone who believes they may have used the second-floor restroom in Lasell Gymnasium on January 16 between noon and 5 p.m. to contact Sgt. A 21-year-old man is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say they linked him to a surveillance device found in a gym on the campus of Williams College. Maxwell Hall, of Weston, faces 18 counts of photographing, videotaping or electronically surveilling a partially nude or nude person in connection with an incident on Jan. 16, the Berkshire district attorney's office said. On Jan. 16, Williamstown police learned of suspicious activity in the Lasell Gymnasium at Williams College. The Campus Safety Service told police they believed a surveillance camera had been planted in a public restroom on the 2nd floor of the gym, Julia Sabourin, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office, said in an email. A student alerted campus safety to the camera after they oberseved a surveillance device disguised as a phone charger, Sabourin said. Hall is set to be arraigned in Northern Berkshire District Court on June 2.
