Nagpur: A violent clash over a Rs8,000 debt claimed the life of Rahul Mohan Pandey, 24, and left two assailants injured in Lakdapool area on June 8. Three individuals have been arrested in the case. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident, rooted in a financial dispute, escalated into a fatal confrontation involving known criminals with a history of violent offences. Kotwali police were unaware of the ongoing tussle among the goons. Police said Pandey had lent Rs8,000 to Rohit Chandekar, 29, a resident of Nawabpura near Masjid. When Rohit failed to repay, tensions flared as there were threats and counter-threats between the rivals. Pandey also visited Chandekar's residence on many occasions to recover his cash. Sources allege the debt was likely linked to a narcotics deal involving mephedrone, with Rohit reportedly dealing in the drug recently. Pandey, determined to recover his money, allegedly confronted Rohit earlier on Sunday, whisking him away on a bike and demanding immediate repayment. Rohit promised to settle the amount later. Around 9pm, Pandey received a call from Rohit's accomplice, Neeraj Larokar, summoning him to a footpath behind Lakdapool Bus Stop, opposite Royal Electricals Shop. Accompanied by friends, Pandey arrived at the location around 11pm, unaware it was a trap. Waiting there were Rohit, his brother Vickey, and Larokar, all with serious criminal records, including assaults. Vickey was previously charged under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act but was released by court order. A heated confrontation ensued, leading to a brutal fight. The Chandekar brothers and Larokar attacked Pandey and his friends with a baton, and one of the assailants, identified as accused Rohit, stabbed Pandey with a knife. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Despite being rushed to Mayo Hospital, Pandey succumbed to his injuries. The Chandekar brothers also sustained injuries during the clash. Following a complaint, Kotwali police registered a case, arresting Rohit, Vickey, and Larokar for their involvement. The police are investigating the narcotics angle and the events leading to the fatal encounter. The incident has raised concerns about rising criminal activity in the area.

Nagpur: A chilling murder shook Agrasen Chowk on Sunday night, when a ragpicker Anna alias Shailesh was stoned to death by Anurag alias Ghoda Sunil Borkar, 33, in a violent clash over a common love interest. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The gruesome incident, which unfolded around 9.45pm in front of Punjab Hardware and Sanitary Store, left the local community reeling and sparked concerns about safety in the area. Police said Shailesh and Borkar, both natives of Madhya Pradesh, had a history that began in Hosangabad jail, where they spent time together after being arrested for theft. After their release, the duo relocated to Nagpur six years ago. Their friendship soured over a romantic rivalry. Borkar, who lived on the footpath near Ambedkar Chowk, was enraged when his live-in partner grew close to Shailesh, even moving in with him. This love triangle culminated in a fatal confrontation on Sunday night. The First Information Report (FIR) reveals that Rakesh Sabal, a 45-year-old manager at a lodge, was alerted to the attack by Vicky alias Kalya, a 22-year-old ragpicker. Vicky reported that Borkar struck Shailesh on the head and chest with a stone, leaving him in a pool of blood. Sabal promptly informed Tehsil police, who rushed Shailesh to Mayo Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Tehsil police have registered a murder case against Borkar under Section 103 of the BNS and are actively searching for the accused, who remains at large. Preliminary investigations point to the romantic dispute as the motive, though further inquiries are underway to confirm the details. The incident has heightened fears among Agrasen Chowk residents, who are now demanding stronger security measures. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for community vigilance to prevent such violent crimes in Nagpur, as authorities work to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Op Sindoor is symbol of India's self-respect: UP CM Yogi

Lucknow: Operation Sindoor has become a symbol of India's self-respect, the dignity of women, and the guarantee of safety for future generations. India undertook this operation for its pride and glory, a commitment assured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised that the valour of India's brave soldiers was instrumental in successfully confronting their enemy, Pakistan, during Operation Sindoor. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked that Mayo Hospital and Dr KNS Memorial Hospital have celebrated 25 years since their establishment. The foundation stone was laid in 2000 by the then Chief Minister and current Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The institutions are now evolving into a hospital and medical college in Barabanki, contributing significantly to the State's development by providing essential healthcare services. Adityanath noted that progress is synonymous with the nurturing of ideas—a seed transforming into a tree symbolises growth. At the same time, a seed that rots and dies reflects decay. He highlighted India as a beacon of hope and culture, guiding humanity, while contrasting this with Pakistan's turbulent fate, which he described as destined for decline, whether at the hands of India or due to the terrorists it harbours. In his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed the need to prioritise service in the competitive healthcare environment. To thrive in this competition, compassion must take precedence; without it, trust in healthcare professionals could erode. He noted that over the past 25 years, the institute has significantly contributed to the development of the State, serving not only as a hospital but also as a medical institution. 'Today, hundreds of students pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-speciality degrees here, all working toward a collective goal of enhancing health outcomes,' he emphasised.
