Kerala high court refuses to quash cheating case against ‘Manjummel Boys' producers

Kochi: High court has dismissed the petitions filed by actor Soubin Shahir , his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Anthony, producers of the hit Malayalam film 'Manjummel Boys', seeking to quash a cheating case registered in connection with the movie's production. The case originated from a complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathara of Aroor before the judicial first-class magistrate court, Ernakulam. Siraj alleged that Parava Films LLP, owned by the petitioners, had approached him for investment in the movie. Pursuant to an agreement dated Nov 30, 2022, he claimed to have invested Rs 7 crore in multiple instalments. Despite the film becoming a commercial success, Siraj alleged that he was not paid the agreed share of profit. Based on the magistrate court's direction, the Maradu police registered a case. In their petitions, the producers countered that it was Siraj who had breached the agreement by failing to invest the promised amount on time, which disrupted shooting schedules and caused significant financial loss. They contended that Siraj was, therefore, not legally entitled to a share of the profits. Manjummel Boys was released on Feb 22, 2024, and went on to become a blockbuster. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Ativar Agora] - Licença de antivírus para PC Clique aqui Undo During the hearing, HC noted that in a pre-arrest bail plea related to the case, the investigating officer had submitted that Rs 18.65 crore was spent on the film's production and a portion of Siraj's investment had been diverted to the personal account of one of the accused. The officer also stated that, unlike other investors and financiers, Siraj alone had not been repaid. Considering these facts, the bench emphasised that the cheating case against the petitioner cannot be quashed, since the consideration at this stage is limited to whether the allegations in the FIR disclose the commission of a cognizable offence. Accordingly, the court dismissed the petitions.

Designing National War Memorial in Delhi was an emotional journey: Chennai-based architect

Yogesh Chandrahasan CHENNAI: Every evening at sunset, the lights are switched on with a special remembrance ceremony at the National War Memorial, New Delhi. The family of one of the 25,000 martyrs is invited to lay a wreath in their memory, in the innermost sanctum. 'This ceremony was something we never planned. It evolved over the years, but it has turned out to be the most emotional part of the whole journey,' says Chennai-based Yogesh Chandrahasan, principal architect, whose firm designed the memorial. Yogesh spoke recently as part of Museum Day celebrations at the DakshinaChitra museum, where he mentioned how it was the thought process they pitched, more than the architectural elements, which won them the design contest which had 450 final entries from across the country. 'I've attended a few of the evening ceremonies, which are closed to the public. Some families raise slogans, some remain silent. At times, a mother or someone dear to the martyr holds my hands and breaks down; it wasn't just a building project for me.' The memorial, which was built in 2017, contains name plates of nearly 25,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the post-independence wars and operations including the Indo-China and Indo-Pakistan wars. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Ativar Agora] - Licença de antivírus para PC Clique aqui Undo 'Another 3,000 tablets have been left blank, for future martyrs.' The inspiration for the entire project, says Yogesh, were the words of Captain Vikram Bhatra, an Indian Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra. He had stated before leaving for the Kargil war that he would surely be back, 'either hosting the tricolour or wrapped in it.' 'Memorials are generally considered a place of death and mourning, but we wanted it to be a place where the martyrs come alive, which is why we proposed the idea of rebirth as the theme.' The idea was initially met with hesitation as it's an essentially Hindu concept, but the soldiers are reborn here metaphorically, not in a physical or religious sense, says Yogesh. National War Memorial The memorial is structured as four concentric circles with an 'eternal flame at the centre' which never goes off, and that is perceived as the centre of rebirth.' The four circles symbolise protection, sacrifice, bravery and rebirth, and each has its own significance. The first, for example, stands for the line of control and is created using 700 trees, which represent the soldiers who stand guard at the point day and night. 'The trees also control the microclimate during summers; while the circle of sacrifice is made with red stone signifying the blood shed for the country,' he says. Stories of various battles have been added as murals, which add an artistic layer to the structure. 'I didn't want it to be just another memorial, but one where visitors can connect to the soldiers as people, where certain emotions are evoked at every level.'

When Poonam Dhillon said she wasted half of her life waiting for Shatrughan Sinha, Amitabh Bachchan said, 'Bhai sahab kahan gayab ho jaate the...'

Shatrughan Sinha has this huge reputation of always being late on the set. Another hero who is accused of that often is Govinda . Many of Sinha's co-stars have spoken about his habit of being late on the set. This was also true for Rajesh Khanna though. When Poonam Dhillon had appeared on Kapil Sharma's show, she was asked about her co-stars. When she was asked about the tardiest hero she has worked with, Poonam said, "There were two top heroes; Govinda and Shatrughan Sinha. I've worked often with them both. With Shatru ji, I did five or six films. I think I've wasted half my life waiting for him. He would show up at 4 pm for a 9 am shift.' In an interview, Chunky Panday had revealed that Sinha was actually always late on purpose and he had also advised the same to him. Chunky had spoken in an interview with Radio Nasha, "Shatru ji told me something very nice, which I follow to date. He said, 'Son, whatever you do, never arrive on time anywhere. If you are punctual, no one will value you. Even if you happen to be early somehow, stay in the car for 15 minutes or so. That was the old-school method — people eagerly waiting for a star. Once the star arrives, what's the point." Amitabh Bachchan on the other hand was known for being very punctual. Sinha and Big B shared screen space in many movies. Once Bachchan took a jibe at Sinha's habit of coming late. He said at a book launch event, "Back in those days, we were working together on two films, Shaan and Naseeb. We used to do three different shifts on the same day, but for different movies. We used to shoot for Shaan from 7 in the morning to 2 in the noon. At 2, we both used to leave the set in our respective cars to reach the set of Naseeb. I would reach the set by 2:30 pm, but Shatru used to reach after 5-7 hours.
