Gilbert Arenas' Son Alijah Arenas Wakes Up From Induced Coma
Originally appeared on E! Online Alijah Arenas is on the road to recovery. After former NBA star Gilbert Arenas' and ex Laura Govan's 18-year-old son was put into an induced coma April 24 due to injuries sustained in a fiery Tesla Cybertruck crash in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley, he has woken up and continues to make a 'remarkable and hopeful' recovery, his family's rep told TMZ. Alijah is still intubated, the rep said, but has been able to communicate by writing. His family—which also includes siblings Izela, 19, Hamiley, 14, and Aloni, 13—continue to be by his side amid his recovery, the spokesperson added. Police responded to a call just after 5 a.m. April 24 after the teenager was involved in a single-vehicle collision after the cybertruck collided with a tree and 'possibly' a fire hydrant, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to NBC News 4 Los Angeles. Law enforcement told the outlet that the cause of the crash is still unknown, however an initial investigation cites excessive speeding as a contributing cause. More from E! Prized Iowa women's basketball signee named to 2025 McDonald's All American Game roster
While the current Iowa women's basketball (13-7, 3-6 Big Ten) season has seen its trials and tribulations, the future just got a bit brighter as future Hawkeye guard Addie Deal was named to the 2025 McDonald's All American Game roster. Deal becomes just the fourth Hawkeye to earn the impressive distinction out of high school, joining Caitlin Clark (2020), Samantha Logic (2011), and Johanna Solverson (2002). The five-star recruit out of Mater Dei High School (Calif.) officially signed with the Hawkeyes in November, headlining Iowa's impressive 2025 recruiting class. In early January, Deal surpassed 1,700 career points at the West Coast Jamboree. Deal now has more than 1,700 points, 600 rebounds, 400 assists, and 325 steals for her high school career. The prized signee will be in Iowa City on Sunday alongside many high-ranking recruits to witness Caitlin Clark's jersey retirement ahead of the Hawkeyes clash vs. No. 4 USC. The 48th annual McDonald's Girls High School All-American game will be played on April 1, 2025, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Orlando Magic's Mac McClung has committed to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star weekend in San Francisco, sources tell ESPN. He will aim for a dunk contest three-peat with the four-man field set: McClung, Stephon Castle, Matas Buzelis, Andre Jackson Jr. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) January 27, MVP。 I hate when people act like the Dunk Contest isn't good anymore when Mac McClung gave us this the past 2 years, most on his first attempt — Steve Helwick (@s_helwick) January 27, Heading into tonight's McDonald's All American Game, Matas Buzelis is already receiving strong interest from several brands on a potential shoe @DraftExpress projected #1 pick of the 2024 NBA Draft will sign with the G-League Ignite, and can sign a full shoe deal now. — Nick DePaula (@NickDePaula) March 29, 2023

South Carolina women's basketball class of 2025 signee Ayla McDowell was named an 2025 McDonald's All-American on Monday. The announcement came live on ESPN's TV show "NBA Today," revealing that McDowell will play on the West Team. McDowell is coach Dawn Staley's first and only player so far in the 2025 signing class. The 6-foot-2 wing committed to the Gamecocks via Instagram Live on Oct. 24. She is a five-star recruit ranked No. 22 in her class by ESPN. She is from Cypress, Texas, outside of Houston and plays for Cypress Springs High School. McDowell is averaging 24.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.1 steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game, according to She averaged 19.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 season. The 48th annual McDonald's All American Game is on April 1 in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. McDowell played AAU basketball for CyFair Elite with the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, Aaliyah Chavez. In July, Chavez announced on social media that South Carolina is among her final six schools and she has still not committed as of Jan. 27. CyFair Elite Sports is a non-profit in Texas and is a Nike basketball affiliate. McDowell competed for Brazil in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup, leading her team with 14.8 points per game. Last year, current South Carolina freshmen Joyce Edwards and Maddy McDaniel became the 19th and 20th McDonald's All-Americans to sign with Staley out of high school. McDowell will be the 26th All-American to play for Staley at South Carolina. Edwards is the leading scorer for the Gamecocks (19-1, 7-0 SEC) this season, averaging 12.2 points per game. On the current roster, there are 10 All-Americans. Everyone but Chloe Kitts, Adhel Tac, and Sakima Walker were named All-Americans though both Tac and Kitts graduated high school early, which eliminated the possibility of their being selected and playing in the game in the spring of their respective senior seasons.
