Man seriously injured after SUV collides with semi-truck near Harvard
HARVARD, Ill. — A two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a semi-truck in Harvard sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries Sunday afternoon.
The Harvard Fire Protection District was dispatched to the area of Route 173 and Crowley Road for a reported crash with entrapment just after 2:30 p.m.
While crews were en route, multiple 911 callers reported that an SUV had collided with a semi-truck and that the adult male driver of the SUV was trapped inside.
Officials say one of the vehicles had left the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area. Firefighters freed the driver of the SUV from the vehicle in under 10 minutes.
The driver of the SUV was airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford with serious injuries. The female driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Route 173 remained closed in both directions for about two hours as emergency crews worked on the scene.
