Local students donate to newly opened McKean food pantry
Until 11 weeks ago, there were no food pantries between Millcreek and Edinboro. But McKean now has its own completely volunteer-run food pantry, and local students were doing their part to help their neighbors in need.
The McKean Elementary PTA held a Health Fair this month, where they collected nonperishable food items for the food pantry.
On Thursday, students delivered the food, stocking the shelves for those in need.
'It's very important with students not being able to get their breakfast and lunch at school, so all of this here will really help,' said Becky Miller, organizing manager for the McKean Area Food Pantry.

'I put in food for the kids who don't have food,' said first grader Mila Olszewski.
'It was really good to know that someone was going to be able to get this food who was in need of it,' added fourth grader Gabriella Curtis.
The pantry is located at 4950 North Main Street.
It accepts donations every Thursday from 11 a.m. until noon. Food is distributed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays. It will extend its hours until 6 p.m. in June.
