Jail time ordered for teens involved in fatal swarming outside McNally High School

The remaining two teens involved in a fatal attack near McNally High School that killed a 16-year-old were sentenced on Monday.
Karanveer Sahota was swarmed by a group of five boys and stabbed in a field by the school in 2022. He later died in hospital.
The teens cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, but one has been referred to throughout the court process as PD and the other as GS.
Both boys were found guilty of manslaughter in Sahota's death.
The Crown had asked for 21 months with 14 months served in custody for PD and 15 to 18 months for GS with two thirds served in custody.
The lawyer for both teens had asked for sentences to be served in the community.
During the sentencing hearing in April the court heard 25 victim impact statements.
'The killing has had a significant impact not only on the victim's family but on the community,' Justice Peter Michalyshyn said.
D was sentenced to a total of 21 months, half in custody with the remainder to be served under conditional supervision.
GS was given a 15 month sentence, five months to be served in custody and 10 months under conditional supervision.
Both teens also received 12 months probation to follow their sentences.
