McNeil Jewelers closing after 79 years, owners retiring

NORWICH, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – After 79 'wonderful' years of serving the greater Binghamton community, the McNeil brothers (Jim and Patrick) have announced the impending closure of McNeil Jewelers. The announcement came through a Facebook post from Jim and Patrick last Wednesday, March 19. They say the decision to close was not an easy one. 'This decision was not made lightly,' the announcement reads. 'After nearly eight decades of serving the Norwich community, it is time for us to embark on a new chapter.' The brothers mentioned how vital the community has been to them in their time around the McNeil's business, which opened in 1946. 'We have been honored to be a part of your engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and countless other special occasions,' they said. 'Your loyalty has meant everything to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the friendships and trust we have built over the years.' To celebrate the ride off into retirement, McNeil is hosting a retirement sale for the final days of the business. The announcement did not indicate when exactly the final day of business will be. 'McNeil Jewelers may be closing its doors, but the memories and relationships we have created will last a lifetime. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives for the past 79 years.' Jim and Patrick encourage anyone to stop in and share memories through the years of service to the community while you still can. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
