Turkey-backed group in Bangladesh circulates ‘Greater Bangladesh' map showing Indian territory

New Delhi: Turkey is becoming increasingly active in India's eastern neighbour Bangladesh, aiming to replicate its engagement model with Pakistan. An alleged Turkish NGO-backed Islamist group has surfaced in Dhaka under the banner ' Saltanat-e-Bangla ' and has published a map promoting a so-called "Greater Bangladesh" that includes Myanmar's Arakan State, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and the entire Northeast region of India, highly placed sources told ET. The map has reportedly appeared in university halls across Dhaka, areas frequented by youth and students. Turkish NGOs aligned with the ruling AKP have also grown increasingly active in Bangladesh, with Pakistan allegedly playing a role in bringing the two countries closer since August last year. Experts on Turkish affairs told ET that the extent of Muslim Brotherhood influence on Bangladesh's Islamists, as well as the role of Turkish NGOs, must be closely monitored. Live Events
