Is Kaizer Chiefs star Mdu Shabalala finished?

Kaizer Chiefs fans adore Mduduzi Shabalala. However, there's been a shift in his squad status and public perception. Mdu was only a substitute in Chiefs' recent Nedbank Cup win over Orlando Pirates. Only a bold man would predict that Mduduzi Shabalala will leave Chiefs in the winter. However, his long-term prospects don't look great. How much does the player want to become a legend at the club? 21-year-old Shabalala was included in a recent preliminary Bafana Bafana squad but hasn't made the final 23 selected by Hugo Broos. THREE key areas for Chiefs to improve At the start of 2024-2025, Mdu Shabalala was a critical component in the Chiefs side, operating from the number 10 role. His output was healthy, too. However, that has dwindled dramatically. After 27 league appearances, he's only got four goals and an assist. His decision-making can also be questioned; with three men ahead of him and only two defenders, an easy pass would have guaranteed that Chiefs doubled their lead against Pirates in their league encounter earlier this month. Instead, he carelessly gave it away, and the Sea Robbers scored on the break through Evidence Makgopa. Mdu or Die in action. Velebayi's Cape Town Spurs side have been relegated to South Africa's third tier following a 15th-place finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has 'played his last game for the club'

Kaizer Chiefs have decided on the future of an exiled midfielder. Here's the latest by way of transfer news from Naturena. At his peak value, transfermarkt estimates that Mduduzi Mdantsane was at his most desirable in the market in February 2023. They gauged him to be worth 1.2m (R22.8 million). Now, over two years later, they figure he's worth half that (R11.4 million). Injuries have ravaged his time at Naturena, including an unfortunate one sustained in a car accident. However, when fit, his form hasn't been to the standard expected by Chiefs. The former Cape Town City star only managed 16 appearances, with two assists and zero goals. This led to a loan spell with Richards Bay in 2024-2025. 'Sekhukhune United could have the advantage of signing Mdu (Mdantsane) because Kaizer Chiefs are looking at either loaning him out or releasing him permanently with his contract remaining with one year on it, and this could give Sekhukhune United the chance to sign him,' an insider told Soccer Laduma. 'They may wait for Chiefs to decide and move in, or they could start talks even before the end of the season.' Chiefs could be ready to pounce with news that talented SuperSport United defender Ime Okon won't be staying with Matsatsantsa next season. The 21-year-old has already racked up 53 appearances for his club since making his debut in 2022 after moving from Gauteng's Randburg FC. Okon went on trial with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv in January 2025 but rejected a permanent move there.
