Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to restart his career in KZN?
Mduduzi Mdantsane has been forgotten as a Kaizer Chiefs footballer. New reports suggest the dream is over. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder from Leandra, Mpumalanga, first made his name at Baroka FC in 2017 before playing his best football at Cape Town City FC in 2019. Kaizer Chiefs came calling in 2023. With only 16 appearances at Kaizer Chiefs, Mdantsane was surprisingly loaned out to Richards Bay FC in January. The skilful attacker played no more than three games at the Natal Rich Boyz as he looks ahead to preseason with Amakhosi. Nevertheless, reports say Richards Bay are keen to sign Mdantsane from Kaizer Chiefs. 'He didn't play much this season after joining the team in January but it's believed that the technical team is interested in keeping him after the loan deal ends,' Soccer Laduma reported. 'Apparently, they believe he has a lot to offer to the team because of his experience. 'I don't think it will be a problem from Kaizer Chiefs' point of view as even in this past season they were willing to let him go permanently but at that time there was not much interest in signing him permanently. 'But apparently at the moment Richards Bay have shown interest and it's believed it will all depend on the talks and negotiations. But the interest is there from Richards Bay,' the insider concluded. Cape Town City's struggles continue as key player losses and coaching changes hamper performance
The loss of key players over the past 18 months seems to be at the heart of Cape Town City's current problems, as their downward spiral continues unabated. City took leave of key players like Mduduzi Mdantsane (94 caps), Khanyisa Mayo (50), and Keanu Cupido (116), and their absence has left a significant gap that the club has struggled to fill. The poor results during the early season raised concerns about the club's capacity to contend effectively in the league this season. During the off-season, City chairman John Comitis was a busy man. He made a host of signings to bolster the squad. It was one of the most active transfer windows in the Premier Soccer League, as City aimed to fill the void left by the departing talents. Retired Cape Town Spurs midfielder Michael Morton, who has over 250 Premiership appearances while playing for Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, SuperSport United, and AmaZulu, is now a football analyst. He has been keeping an eye on local soccer and has been an admirer of City. "It is a fantastic football club with great people in it and a good support base in Cape Town. It's absolutely vital that they stay in the PSL and avoid relegation," said Morton. "Whatever the guys have to do, let's hope they do it and survive." At the start of the season, Morton said City looked like a club that would dominate the upper echelons of the Premiership standings this season. "At the beginning of the season, I thought they had a balanced squad. I ranked them as a team I thought would finish in the top four or five places. I thought they looked strong," said Morton. "But looking back now, throughout the season, it seems they didn't have the firepower they needed. They didn't have goal scorers up front. "Selling Mayo took away a lot of their goal-scoring threats. They looked underpowered, and Mdantsane was a big loss as well. With these players, they lost a lot of their goals." In January, City fired their coach Eric Tinkler, who had been at the helm for three seasons. However, the team continued with a string of poor results. He was replaced by the highly experienced Muhsin Ertugral, who also struggled to steer the ship to safer waters. "There was a question of players being used correctly. I think the main issue was they had multiple coaches this season. It calls for changing and adapting to different playing styles, in line with the different coaches' instructions," said Morton. "It hasn't been easy at all from that point of view for the players." Losing (defender) Cupido in January as well was a massive blow, but again, I don't think the problems lie at the back. I think the problems are more in terms of goal-scoring and chance creation." "Once they lost Eric and then the Ertugral move didn't work, he wasn't supposed to coach because he came in as technical director for the following season. City could not have predicted things to go so wrong." "It's down to the senior players and everybody else to try to pull together to get that club over the line."

Chiefs news: Potential over experience; Duo targeted in North Africa
Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly exploring an exit strategy for Mduduzi Mdantsane. The 30-year-old, still on AmaKhosi's books, is on loan at Magesi but will return to Naturena once the season concludes. According to reports, Sekhukhune United are monitoring the situation. 'Sekhukhune United could have the advantage of signing Mdu [Mdantsane] because Kaizer Chiefs are looking at either loaning him out or to releasing him permanently with his contract remaining with one year on it and this could give Sekhukhune United the chance to sign him,' SoccerLaduma confirmed. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have promoted another youngster: striker Naledi Hlongwane. The 19-year-old has converted eleven times this season, making him one of the hottest prospects coming out of the DDC circuit. 'What I can tell you is the five-year deal is the one believed to have been agreed upon by all parties,' an inside source explained. Nasreddine Nabi's scouts have been monitoring Pyramids pair Fiston Mayele and two-time Nedbank winner Fagrie Lakay. Kaizer Chiefs, who only want one, have Mayele as their priority target, but remain open to signing Lakay if the initial deal falls through. 'At the moment there is not one striker who the club could say is the one joining them. 'Yes, they are priotising Fiston Mayele but they don't want to be caught off guard if things don't work out with him and that's why they are reigniting the interest in [Fagrie] Lakay. 'You remember they have been interested in him for some time now? They are just waiting for that chance to sign him. And this could be the right time to do so for the club.' Kaizer Chiefs star: Flop at club level, STAR for his country
Kaizer Chiefs are in the curious position where one of their peripheral players is a key operator for his country. Rwanda National Team manager Adel Amrouche has confirmed French interest in Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari. The 25-year-old was a regular in the Chiefs first team when he arrived, but inopportune injuries have pushed him down the pecking order. Ntwari, who came from TS Galaxy in July 2024, has only made seven appearances for Chiefs. 'There is a second division club from France; they also asked me about him,' Amrouche told FARPost . Despite his struggles at club level, Ntwari has been a regular for his country during World Cup qualifiers. Ironically, Ntwari's Rwanda are in Group C of qualifiers alongside South Africa. They're sitting relatively pretty with eight points after six outings. It's not out of the question that both nations could qualify for the 2026 showpiece staged in Mexico, Canada and the United States. 25-year-old Ntwari, who stands at 1.94m tall, has 12 caps for his nation and will look to build on that as we approach a World Cup year. 'I trust the coaches at Chiefs, and I hope between now and June, he's going to get his chance to play again because we need him for the rest of the qualifiers.' 'He was good. I thought the lack of game time would affect him, but he was good. You can see his teammates trust him, and I also trust him. I have a lot of confidence in him because of his qualities. He's also an incredible person to work with. He's a hard worker, and the players love him. People love him in Rwanda.' Since a move from Cape Town City in July 2023, Mduduzi Mdantsane has failed to make the grade at Kaizer Chiefs. In 16 appearances, he failed to score a single goal and spent large periods on the sidelines. At his peak value, transfermarkt estimates that Mduduzi Mdantsane was at his most desirable in the market in February 2023. They gauged him to be worth 1.2m (R22.8 million). Now, just under two years later, they figure he's worth half that (R11.4 million). Injuries have ravaged his time at Naturena, including an unfortunate one sustained in a car accident. However, when fit, his form hasn't been to the standard expected by Chiefs. A loan spell with Richards Bay in 2024-2025 has proved to be the final nail in his Amakhosi coffin. What's next for Mdantsane? Let us know by leaving a comment below or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
