Whitland couple fined over planning breach at Seven Acres site

Failure to comply with enforcement notice leads to combined penalties of over £4,000 A COUPLE from Whitland have been fined after failing to comply with a planning enforcement notice issued by Pembrokeshire County Council in relation to unauthorised use of land at their property. Daniel Davies, aged 42, of Seven Acres, Whitland, and Megan Davies, aged 35, of The Potting Shed, Whitland, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates' Court on Thursday (May 1), where they both pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of a formal enforcement notice. The court heard that the notice, served on June 21, 2024, required the couple to take specific steps to resolve planning breaches at Seven Acres, a rural property on the outskirts of the town. Between October 25, 2024 and March 7, 2025, they failed to comply. Daniel Davies was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay a £400 victim services surcharge and £1,659.50 in prosecution costs—bringing his total to £3,059.50. The court allowed him to pay in monthly instalments of £50 starting on May 29, 2025. Megan Davies was fined £750 and must pay a £300 surcharge. No additional costs were imposed on her, as the court acknowledged that the main culpability lay with her husband. The offences were prosecuted under Section 179(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, which makes it an offence to fail to comply with the requirements of an enforcement notice relating to unauthorised development or land use.

Mum left disgusted after what she saw crawling all over bread at Asda

Asda issued an apology after what the young mum found while doing her weekly food shop for her two-year-old daughter at their superstore in Huyton, Merseyside A mum has said she felt "totally sick and disgusted" after spotting 'dozens' of spiders and spider eggs covering the shelves and loaves of bread inside her local Asda. The supermarket issued an apology after the woman's grim find while she was doing her weekly food shop for her two-year-old daughter. The 22-year-old mum was shopping at the Asda in Huyton, Merseyside when she made the shocking discovery. The mum, who does not want to be named, said she was there at around 8.40pm on Monday. She told the Liverpool Echo she could see dozens of spider eggs and spiders, engulfed by webs and surrounding loaves of bread which had been stacked inside the store. ‌ ‌ An Asda spokeswoman said the incident "falls short" of the high standards it sets itself, and said they wanted to reassure customers that the tray was taken off the shop floor and thoroughly cleaned as soon as staff were made aware of the issue. The mum said: "I had just popped in to get a weekly shop for my two-year-old daughter. I was on the bread aisle and it [the spiders and spider eggs] were all over the top on the whole aisle. "Some [of the spiders and eggs] were moving and crawling and there were some clusters of them all over the bread. It knocked me ill, it turned my stomach completely. "I was doing my shopping for my child to get bits and bobs and it put me off the whole of my shopping." An Asda spokeswoman said: "This footage falls short of the high standards we set ourselves and we would like to reassure customers that as soon as we became aware of this the tray was taken off the shop floor and the nearby area was thoroughly cleaned." ‌ In October, a Tesco shopper shopper was left horrified after claiming she found an infestation of bugs in her freshly-bought bag of flour. Megan Davies wanted to do some late night baking when she claims she made the shocking discovery. The 21-year-old says her 79p bag of flour was "crawling with tiny weevils" that are known to thrive inside dry foods. She says the bag had to be binned despite it having an expiry date of February 2025. The university student had bought the bag just two weeks before after clearing out and replacing items in her grandma's cupboards. The pair wanted to do some baking so they visited Tesco Extra in Durham to purchase the goods. The plan was to get the ingredients for Megan's grandma to make a Christmas fruit cake. She decided that she wanted to make herself a chocolate brownie. Megan, of Durham, said: "I was absolutely disgusted and shocked. I have never come across these before, I bake very frequently and have done since I was a child, so for me to never have come across this it was a big shock."
