Build My Future showcase lets students explore construction jobs
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — High school students from around the area had a chance to learn about potential careers in construction.
It's the 7th annual Build My Future showcase that took place in Springfield on Wednesday.
The one-day event that allows students to explore jobs through interactive exhibits, such as climbing electrical poles.
Organizers say students are aware of some of the most recognized construction jobs. However, they don't always know how to get those jobs.

Those students also don't know about how today's technology plays a role in the industry.
'Yes, there's the hammer, and the nails, and there's roofing, and there's electrical, and there's all of that, but the use of GPS, VR technology, all of that technology stuff that we get to use in the industry, its stuff that's beneficial for us, it makes people safer, it expedites work,' said Build My Future board member Megan Herzog. 'So there's all the benefits, and students are getting to see that in action.'
Build My Future leaders say this event began in Springfield and is being replicated in other communities throughout the nation.
