Windsor researchers net $230,000 in cancer research from Play for a Cure Pro-Am
The fifth annual draft party is Thursday evening at Caesars Windsor with an All-Star Hockey Game set for the Vollmer Complex in LaSalle on Friday night.
Before the puck even drops, organizer Jeff Casey announced the event will help support three new grants:
a Cancer Research Incentive grant of $50,000
Igniting Discovery Grant worth $30,000
a Cancer Research Program Lead valued at $50,000 over three years
All of that money will stay in Windsor, according to Casey.
'Today's announcement is a testament to what our community can achieve when we rally around a common cause,' said Casey in a news release.
'This funding not only honours the spirit of the Play for a Cure event, but it ensures that the money raised here will have a direct impact here.'
Joining the 10 teams of local players will be some of the best to play hockey, including women's hockey champions Meghan Agosta, Angela James, Laura Fortino, and Shannan Szabados.
Also on the roster are Adam Graves, Tim Taylor, Matthew Barnaby, Al Iafrate, Brad May, Chris Thorburn, Jordan Nolan, Andre Roy, Eric Wellwood, Dennis Maruk, Andy Delmone, and Michael Leighton.
Tickets are still available here.
