Water main break wreaks havoc on southwest Minneapolis businesses, apartments
A water main break overnight in a southwest Minneapolis neighborhood caused major damage to properties, displacing residents and temporarily closing businesses.
Bring Me The News was near the intersection of 50th Street West and Penn Avenue Thursday morning, where city cleanup crews were active.
The flooding, believed to have started around 3:30 a.m., led businesses to close on Thursday while some residents of a nearby apartment building were evacuated.

One of those businesses, independent bookstore The Paperback Exchange, says it is closed "indefinitely" due to the damage sustained in the flooding.
The Minneapolis Fire Department said the main water break came from a pipe inside the building that houses Italian restaurant Terzo and five apartments above it, with a large amount of water gushing into the streets and alleyways.
The city's water department is on scene and continuing to address the incident, but was standing by to wait for additional resources required to shut off in the basement of Terzo Restaurant, which couldn't immediately be reached due to the volume of floodwater.
Minneapolis Fire spokesperson Melanie Rucker says about a foot of water is in the surrounding area.
Terzo Restaurant shared a video to its Facebook account showing water pouring out from the building. It stated its basement and main floor were flooded, but added that its neighboring restaurants — Broders' Cucina and Broders' Pasta Bar — was not impacted.
"While our intersection may be under construction these next days, we are maintaining normal hours at our sister restaurants and hope to see you there. If you have a reservation at Terzo, expect to hear from us soon," the business said.
