Kerr wants to see more aggression from New Zealand following Australia series loss
Star New Zealand all-rounder Melie Kerr is looking for a response from her side in the final T20I of their series against Australia. The White Ferns fell to their second consecutive loss when they were defeated by a rampant Australian side by 82 runs at Mount Maunganui on Sunday and have little time to lick their wounds ahead of the final clash of the series in Wellington on Wednesday. The Kiwis have been outclassed by Australia in both matches of the series thus far and Kerr admitted her side has been well off the pace. "It's been a tough few games for us and we're really disappointed," Kerr said. "They're a world-class side, but I think we would love to compete a whole lot more than what we have, and we've been off the mark personally as a team, with both bat and ball. "We've bowled a lot of loose balls at times, which means we haven't been able to build pressure and then our good balls don't take wickets because we're screwing up our bad ones." The results have been mixed for New Zealand since their remarkable success at last year's ICC Women's T20 World Cup, with the side having lost white-ball series to India and Australia (twice), with their sole success coming at home in an ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this month. Kerr knows her team is still evolving and wants to see the players show a bit more aggression when out on the field. "We've got to keep growing and learning and trying to get better, and we've still got one more game with a lot to play for," Kerr noted. "For us, it's how can we compete more and build belief and have a bit of mongrel about us, because we know that if we do play our best, we can beat them." Every wicket from Melie Kerr | WT20WC 2024 The match in Wellington will be the last for Australia following their own recent busy schedule and stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath wants her side to finish on a high. The Aussies were bundled out by South Africa in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year and want to show they remain a force in white-ball cricket. "We're playing against the world champions, and we want to be the world champions," McGrath said. "(We want to) finish the season on a high, we go to Wellington job not done and really keen to finish it off 3-0." News New Zealand Women Amelia Kerr 10/13/2000

Star players return as White Ferns name squad for Australia T20Is
The squad consists of several big names making their return to the side. Sophie Devine makes her return following a well-being break, which had kept her out of the Super Smash, Women's Premier League, and New Zealand's recent series against Sri Lanka. ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year Melie Kerr also returns after a successful stint in the Women's Premier League, where she claimed her second title. The all-rounder's last T20I appearance for New Zealand was in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup final, where the 24-year-old was named Player of the Match in a title-winning performance. Squad: Suzie Bates , Eden Carson, Sophie Devine, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Fran Jonas, Jess Kerr, Melie Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Georgia Plimmer, Lea Tahuhu. The remainder of the squad remains largely unchanged from the side that drew the T20I series with Sri Lanka, with Emma McLeod, Izzy Sharp, Flora Devonshire, and Bree Illing making way for the returning Devine, Kerr, Tahuhu and Bella James, who is yet to make her T20I debut. The reigning T20 World Cup champions will face their counterparts Down Under, alongside the Black Caps and Pakistan in T20I double-headers across Auckland, Tauranga, and Wellington. Recently, the side played a three-match ODI & T20I series against Sri Lanka at home, with New Zealand winning the ODI series 2-0 and drawing the T20I series 1-1, with a game being washed out in both formats. Suzie Bates was the pick among the sides as she scored 99 runs at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 112.50 in the T20I series and was the top scorer. Bates will continue the lead the side as interim captain following Sophie Devine's decision to step down after the ICC Women's T20 World Cup last year. White Ferns Head Coach, Ben Sawyer expressed his delight in welcoming back three key players to his side. 'We're thrilled to have Soph, Melie, and Lea back for this series, they bring invaluable experience and leadership to the team," he said. Devine, speaking on her return, said, 'It's been nice to have some time to reset and refocus. I'm really looking forward to getting back out there with the girls.' New Zealand take on Australia in their first game on March 21 at Eden Park in Auckland. Schedule: 1st T20I - Friday 21 March – Eden Park, Auckland, 2nd T20I – Sunday 23 March – Bay Oval, Tauranga, 3rd T20I – Wednesday 26 March – Sky Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand Women News Women's News

All-round excellence decides winner of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year
New Zealand star Melie Kerr is the latest recipient of the illustrious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy as the stand-out player of 2024, beating Laura Wolvaardt, Chamari Athapaththu and Annabel Sutherland to the top honour in the women's game. Kerr was outstanding in all three facets of the game throughout the year, setting the standard for world-class all-rounders. Her brilliance in the field lifted New Zealand time and again, and she was one of the most dangerous leg-spinners in the world, acting as the White Ferns' go-to strike bowler. With the bat, Kerr was the rock in New Zealand's line-up, capable of playing expansive knocks to build on strong starts or acting as a stabilising force to anchor the innings if the openers didn't fire. Melie Kerr revels in claiming the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award | ICC Awards 2024 The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy was first awarded in 2017 and has been shared between three players since then, with Australia's Ellyse Perry, India's Smriti Mandhana and England's Nat Sciver-Brunt each winning the award on two occasions. Kerr becomes not only the first New Zealander to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, but also the first Kiwi to win the overall ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in any guise. Kerr's highlight of 2024 came at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup where she was named the Player of the Tournament and won the Player of the Match award against South Africa in the final as New Zealand's women won their first ICC T20 World Cup. In nine One Day Internationals during the year, Kerr scored 264 runs at an average of 33, and she also bagged 14 wickets in the format. But it was in T20 Internationals where her performances earned her the Cricketer of the Year award. In 18 T20Is in 2024 she scored 387 runs at an average of 24.18 and bagged 29 wickets – a national record for a single calendar year. Melie Kerr on the 'huge honour' of winning T20I Cricketer of the Year Kerr's 15 wickets at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup made her the tournament's leading wicket-taker and is the biggest haul ever by a bowler at a Women's T20 World Cup. She frequently got opponents' key batters out throughout the tournament, including the prized scalp of Deandra Dottin in the semi-final against West Indies and two of South Africa's top three – Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch – in the final. The 24-year-old saved her best for last with the bat at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, scoring 43 from 38 to top score across both teams in the final. Kerr anchored New Zealand's innings, coming in during the second over and departing in the penultimate one having played a key role in lifting the Kiwis to a match-winning total of 158/5. She followed up those batting efforts with an excellent catch and stand-out figures of 3/24 with the ball, including two wickets in an over to turn the tide in New Zealand's favour after a strong Powerplay from the Proteas openers. Kerr's all-round brilliance deservedly earned her the Player of the Match award in the final, capping off a remarkable year of individual excellence.
