Longview Lobo Choir honors veterans with performance, medals
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – The Longview Lobo Choir held a ceremony where they sang to local veterans in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day on Saturday. Remarkable Woman Susan Campbell works to save veteran lives The ceremony was the choir's way of honoring veterans after they couldn't make it out to an event they planned to attend in Hawaii. 'We decided that we still wanted to honor that commitment, to honor the Vietnam veterans,' Longview Lobo Choir director Melody McMullen said. 'So we decided that let's do it locally instead of flying all the way to Hawaii to do it. I'm really glad that we're here doing this because we already have a pretty good turnout. I'm excited to get to, to meet some of these men that fought.' Each veteran who attended the event was given a medal and then turkey legs were served. Longview high school choir cancels Hawaii trip due to air travel concerns
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) — The Longview high school lobo choir canceled their trip to Hawaii due to safety concerns for air travel. According to Longview ISD, choir families voted on the decision to cancel the Hawaii trip during a recent meeting. The district said families who made direct payments to the tour company will receive reimbursement and fundraising contributions will remain allocated to cover overall expenses. The choir will continue fundraising and work to reimburse families while donors and sponsors will be contacted to receive an option for a refund. 'Commitment to excellence': Longview high school football program wins most driven team award 'While the trip will no longer take place, the Lobo Choir remains committed to its original mission—honoring Vietnam Veterans,' the district said. 'In place of the Hawaii trip, the choir is organizing a special event on March 29 to recognize and honor local Vietnam Veterans on the 50th Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War.' The district is planning to schedule a 'fun and engaging' trip for the students later in the year that is accessible by car.
