Jets' young offensive line named their biggest strength entering 2025

Over the past few seasons, the Jets' front office and this new regime have made it known that they want to develop a high-caliber offensive line. And according to Pro Football Focus, they have done just that. Jets acquired young, talented linemen this offseason PFF's Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman recently named the Jets' 'young, impressive offensive line' their biggest strength. Advertisement The most talented player they acquired on the offensive line this offseason is rookie tackle Armand Membou, who they took at No. 7 overall. Membou was one of my favorite players in this past draft class, as he is a perfect fit for the Jets. Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images What made him stand out to me the most is his athleticism and production combo. He is able to get out in space on outside zones, tosses, while still being able to plant his foot on pass plays. At the right tackle position, he will slot in right away as the starter for years to come. A backup depth piece that could play a big role on the inside this season is Josh Myers, the former center of the Green Bay Packers. Advertisement I expect Myers to get a starting opportunity in a center-needy team, but he surprisingly took a backup-level contract with the Jets. This is a great get for the Jets, as they acquired a talented player with starting experience to sure up the middle if an injury occurs. Both of these moves could play big roles this season, as the Jets are notorious for going through injury problems. With Membou starting at tackle and Myers being a good backup, it is obvious that PFF made a good call with naming the line a strength. Offensive line strength isn't a one-year wonder The best part about this resurgence of offensive linemen for the Jets is that they are all young, and most of them are under contract long-term. Advertisement This core of offensive linemen will be there for years to come, with possibly a guard and a swing tackle being in the mix for next season. This Jets front office, with help from the past few seasons as well, has built a young and sustainably talented offensive line that could really blossom this season. Related Headlines

Jets' Armand Membou compared to longtime NFL star on O-line

Jets' Armand Membou compared to longtime NFL star on O-line The New York Jets landed Missouri offensive lineman Armand Membou with their top selection at No. 7 overall at the 2025 NFL draft. Early on and even before he has played a game, there is praise from ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Following the draft, the outlet's top insiders made predictions relating the the recent draft. Fowler used his on the Jets and Membou. Fowler said he sees some Jason Peters in Membou. Peters is not only a praised NFL player for his play as a twice first-team All-Pro, he has elite longevity. A likely Hall of Famer, Peters took a much different route to the NFL than Membou as an undrafted rookie and former tight end, but he has been a pro from 2004 to 2024. That's some career. If Membou turns out to be a nine-time Pro Bowler like Peters? The Jets will be plenty happy. Fowler's breakdown on Peters can be found below:

Four NFL games to watch in 2025 if you're a Mizzou fan

With the 2025 NFL schedule officially being released on Wednesday night, that means we can finally see when some of our favorite Mizzou alumni will take the field at the professional level. In 2025, three Tigers had their names called during the seven-round draft, and five others signed as undrafted free agents in the weeks following the event. Going into minicamp, there are now 25 players on active rosters who repped the black and gold, so what are some of the key matchups involving them this season? Luther Burden's Debut | Vikings at Bears (September 8, ABC/ESPN, 7:15 p.m. CT) This game was one that was definitely circled by many Tigers fans when the schedule was released. The homegrown wide receiver has been a fan favorite in Columbia since he flipped his commitment from Oklahoma in the Fall of 2021 and that will continue on into his professional career. Advertisement To add to the drama, the second round pick of the Chicago Bears will have his debut amplified under the bright lights of Monday Night Football. I'm sure the No. 87 Burden jerseys will be out loud and proud in Columbia for this game. 2. Armand Membou's Debut | Steelers at Jets (September 7, CBS, 12:00 p.m. CT) Another debut for a beloved local product, Membou's introduction to the pros will be something many across the Show-Me state will tune in for. Membou was selected seventh overall in this year's NFL Draft and is projected to become a cornerstone for a rebuilding New York Jets team that recently moved on from Aaron Rodgers. Membou will likely be blocking for Justin Fields this upcoming season, but former Missouri quarterback Brady Cook was also signed by the Jets as a undrafted free agent. This game could be the start of a legendary NFL career. Advertisement 3. Burden v. Rakestraw | Bears vs. Lions (September 14, FOX, 12:00 p.m. CT and Week 18, TBD) The former teammates turned division rivals will get the opportunity to meet twice in 2025. Both players were selected in the second round the past two drafts and both were key contributors in the Tigers' Cotton Bowl victory during the 2023 season. With the way these two teams are looking, this matchup will be one that Mizzou fans will have circled for years to come. Hopefully we'll get a few snaps of Burden and Rakestraw matched up in coverage so we can have some debates settled. 4. Nick Bolton vs. Denver "Tigers" | Chiefs vs. Broncos (November 16, CBS, 3:25 p.m CT, and Christmas Day, Prime, 7:15 p.m. CT) With the addition of two more Tigers to their roster this offseason, you might as well call the Denver Broncos the Denver Tigers. The boys in the Mile High City have the most active Missouri alumni on their roster after they added Johnny Walker Jr and Kristian Williams to their squad from undrafted free agency. The team already had Tyler Badie and Kris Abrams-Draine, so it's safe to say there is quite a large Mizzou influence in the locker room. Advertisement Denver will matchup with division rival Kansas City and fellow Mizzou alumni Nick Bolton twice in 2025, so those games will be ones to watch. With how wild the NFL can get, who knows, maybe we'll get to see Badie try to shake Bolton to break off a big run when the games close. Jets Risk Label Used On 1st-Round Pick Armand Membou

With the No. 7 pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou. Membou has a rare combination of size and athleticism that made him stand out in the draft process, which led to head coach Aaron Glenn calling the pick a "no-brainer". However, that may not be the consensus around the league. The Athletic's post-draft roundup of the AFC expressed some doubts on the quality of the tackles in this year's class, including Membou. Advertisement "Execs liked the philosophy behind selecting an offensive lineman in the first round for a second consecutive draft, despite mixed reviews on the tackle they selected, Armand Membou,'' ational reporter Mike Sando wrote. "With no consensus on tackles in this draft, it was easy to find execs unsure about Membou or any of the others as top-10 picks. One called Membou a 'major work in progress' and a 'high-risk, high-reward' prospect carrying greater risk than a top-10 tackle ideally would carry." The executives were a big fan of the Jets' second-round selection, Mason Taylor, however. "They universally endorsed second-round tight end Mason Taylor," Sando reported. Advertisement "There was no such debate regarding Taylor. Execs think he can start right away." 'Big fan of Mason Taylor's game,' one executive told Sando. 'If I were Indy, I would have waited and taken Mason Taylor in the second round instead of taking Tyler Warren in Round 1. 'I just think in the NFL, unless you are a Gronk, a Kittle or someone that can play big at the catch point and win 50-50s at a high rate, you have to be able to separate as a pass catcher. Taylor can do that.' One executive Sando spoke to thought the Jets should have handled the third round differently. "'I thought the Jets should have been in play for Jalen Milroe,' this exec said. 'They draft Membou, so they are prioritizing the line of scrimmage a second year in a row. They are going to be a clear running threat with Justin Fields, but when you play that way, you open him up to potential injury. Milroe would let them continue playing that style.'' Aaron Glenn sings praises of Jets first-rounder Armand Membou

Aaron Glenn described Armand Membou as the type of player he is looking to add to the Jets. 'He's mean, he's nasty, he's tough,' Glenn said Thursday night after the Jets took Membou with the No. 7 overall pick. You'd never know it talking to Membou off the field. Membou arrived in Florham Park on Friday and was polite and cordial, nothing like the man who Jets fans will see on the field at right tackle. 'When I get on that field, I just flip the switch,' Membou said. 'No friends out there, so just get after everybody.' 3 Armand Membou looks on during their game against the South Carolina Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium on November 16, 2024 in Columbia, South Carolina. Getty Images We are in the early days of Glenn's tenure with the Jets and still learning exactly what the new coach will be looking for. If his first draft choice is any indication, he wants some nasty in his players. 'What we're trying to do on offense, he really fits what we're trying to do, so it was a no-brainer,' Glenn said. 'I mean, once the pick was there for us, man, it was like this is the guy.' Membou came to football late. He began playing in eighth grade but was on the skinny side. He also played tennis, soccer, basketball and wrestled. Early in high school he could not make it on the varsity team. Then, in 2020 during the pandemic, Membou went to work on his body. He began to work out more and eat, and when he showed up for football practice that summer he had gone from 220 pounds to around 250. He also had shot up from 6-foot to 6-3. 'I feel like God, he just gave me like a new update or something,' Membou said. 3 Armand Membou of the Missouri Tigers poses for a portrait at the Indiana Convention Center on February 27, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Getty Images He became a dominant high school football player at Lee's Summit North in Missouri and soon was recruited to play at Missouri. He became a starter at right tackle for the Tigers midway through his freshman season and the NFL dream became realistic. 'I knew it was a real possibility after my freshman year when I first got on the field,' Membou said. Membou would become a fixture at right tackle for Missouri through his sophomore and junior seasons. Many NFL teams did not see Membou as a lock to leave school early and enter this year's draft. But Membou began to believe he was ready for the NFL as his junior year progressed. 'For me, by the end of the season it was pretty easy because I was playing really well,' Membou said. 'And just also mentally, too, I'm confident in myself to know I was going to be fine.' 3 Head coach Aaron Glenn of the New York Jets speaks to the media during the NFL Scouting Combine at the Indiana Convention Center on February 25, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Getty Images Membou was not on the radar of every NFL team because the scouting community was late to him as an early entry player. 'Yeah, after the season I was hearing like second-, third-round grades and I was kind of debating whether I should go back or not,' Membou said, 'but I was confident in my film from the season prior and just confident in myself. I'm definitely glad I made that decision to come out.' Then, Membou put on a display at the NFL Scouting Combine that included a 4.91 40-yard dash — a stunning time for a 6-4, 332-pound player. Suddenly, Membou was in the discussion as the best offensive lineman in this draft and a possible top-10 pick. 'I feel like once people saw the athleticism I showed at the combine, they probably took that second look at the film and was like, 'Woah, like he is that athletic,' ' Membou said. The Jets see Membou as a plug-and-play right tackle who can complete a strong offensive line. Membou can bring his nasty streak to the Jets as well as his physical skills. 'I'd just say I'm very explosive,' Membou said of his strengths. 'I create a lot of good movement in the run game, and I'm very consistent in pass pro. I wouldn't really say nothing for weaknesses right now, I'm just trying to improve my overall game once I get here.'
