Box Office: Final Destination Bloodlines scores USD 4.8M on Memorial Day, USD 100M domestic milestone expected this week
Final Destination: Bloodlines continued its strong run at the US box office, grossing a powerful USD 4.8 million on Memorial Day Monday. This marked the biggest second Monday holiday for the Final Destination franchise, registering just a slight 4.8 percent drop from the previous Monday. The figure notably surpassed the 2009 Final Destination second Monday haul of USD 2.9 million, which came after a 31 percent increase. The USD 4.8 million Monday places Bloodlines as the second biggest second Monday post-COVID for an R-rated horror film and the second biggest overall second Monday for horror movies in the post-pandemic period. It comfortably outperformed other notable horror sequels like A Quiet Place Part II (USD 2.3M, -70.2 percent), NOPE (USD 2.5M, -47.6 percent), A Quiet Place: Day One (USD 2.5M, -52.2 percent), and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (USD 3M, -51.5 percent). The only post-COVID horror Monday that tops it is Ryan Coogler's Sinners with USD 5.5 million (-29.4 percent). The strong holiday Monday momentum has helped Final Destination: Bloodlines reach a cumulative domestic gross of USD 94.3 million, with the USD 100 million mark expected as early as Thursday or Friday of this week. Industry analysts currently project a final US run between USD 125 million and USD 135 million, a major commercial success for the franchise. Final Destination: Bloodlines is the sixth installment in the popular supernatural horror series. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the film was written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor based on a story co-developed with Jon Watts. The movie follows Kaitlyn Santa Juana as a college student who inherits disturbing visions from her dying grandmother. These premonitions tie back to a narrowly averted structural disaster in 1968 and warn that death is now seeking what it was once denied by targeting her family. The cast also includes Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and horror icon Tony Todd in his final screen appearance. After the success of Final Destination 5 in 2011, the franchise went into development as a reimagining. Initially planned as a streaming release on HBO Max, Warner Bros. shifted gears in March 2024 to a theatrical release. Filming took place in Vancouver between March and May 2024, delayed partly due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Released by Warner Bros. in the US on May 16, Final Destination: Bloodlines has been met with generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It has notably become the highest-grossing and best-reviewed entry in the franchise, solidifying its cult status in the modern horror space.

Box Office: Lilo and Stitch delivers historic USD 36.6M Memorial Day Monday, beats Top Gun Maverick
Lilo & Stitch has marked a remarkable run at the US box office over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, delivering a historic USD 36.6 million on Monday alone. This marks the fifth biggest Memorial Day Monday of all time, surpassing the previous record of USD 33.8 million set by Top Gun: Maverick but trailing behind Black Panther's USD 40.2 million, The Force Awakens' USD 40.1 million, No Way Home's USD 37.1 million, and Endgame's USD 36.9 million. The film's total stands at USD 146 million for the three-day weekend and an astounding USD 182.6 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday. This performance places Lilo & Stitch's Monday figure at a modest 13.3 percent drop from Sunday, a strong hold that underlines its enduring popularity and audience enthusiasm. The weekend's box office breakdown is as follows: USD 14.5 million from Thursday previews; USD 41.4 million pure Friday gross (USD 55.9 million including previews), a 15.5 percent jump to USD 47.8 million on Saturday, followed by USD 42.2 million on Sunday. The steady weekend build culminated in the USD 36.6 million Memorial Day Monday, cementing the film's historic run. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and penned by Chris Kekanikalani Bright and Mike Van Waes, Lilo & Stitch is the 2025 live-action remake of Disney's beloved 2002 science fiction animated classic. The new iteration incorporates elements from the original film's sequels and TV shows, bringing a fresh yet nostalgic take on the vintage story. Maia Kealoha makes her film debut as Lilo, joined by Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis. Notably, original cast members like Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee return in new supporting roles, while Chris Sanders reprises his voice role as Stitch, maintaining a link to the original. Lilo & Stitch premiered at Los Angeles' El Capitan Theater on May 17 before its nationwide release on May 23 by Walt Disney Studios. Despite receiving mixed critical reviews, the film has resonated strongly with audiences. Currently grossing USD 361.2 million worldwide, it stands as the fifth highest-grossing film of the year, showcasing Disney's enduring power to bring classic stories to new generations. With this historic Memorial Day box office performance, Lilo & Stitch has firmly established itself as a major hit, proving that the formula of resurrecting beloved animated classics to fuel the box office is here to stay. Summer's On Hold: Temperatures fall below average with stubborn clouds and drizzle
Memorial Day Monday carries over overcast skies and light rain from the overnight for our morning hours. An area of low pressure across the Carolina Coastline keeps the gloomy chill around. Clouds will be awfully stubborn but we'll manage a few peeks of sunshine at times. Light showers will roam first towards the southeast then drift back northeast later in the day. Much like the last few days, winds will pick up into the afternoon 10-15mph gusting as high as 25-30mph at times. This evening, aside from a few light drizzle moments for the eastern mountains, it'll just be a damp and chilly evening with temperatures sliding back into the 50s. A few towns will sink back into the mid and upper 40s. Fog is a safe bet for sheltered valleys while low hanging clouds hang tough on the mountain tops. A few spots may slow you down for early Tuesday morning travelers. Otherwise, we await the arrival of our next system in the overnight hours with showers returning pre-dawn. Tuesday will be a soggy day overall with temperatures struggling to push into the upper 50s thanks in part to mostly cloudy skies and stiff southeast winds 10-15mph gusting 25-30mph at times. Not exactly great travel weather. Showers will come in waves with heavy rain at times for the mid-day and early afternoon hours. Standing water on roads adds a hydroplaning risk to the day. As more waves of rain push through street flooding, overwhelmed storm drains, ditches and culverts become a concern. With nearly an inch of rain falling on Tuesday, minor issues with street flooding should be monitored. For our large rivers, we'll be ok on Tuesday but smaller creeks and streams that feed into these rivers will start to show sign of strain. With more rain expected on Wednesday, those that live near these smaller streams should monitor how these bodies of water react to each passing downpour. Tuesday will be a groundwork kind of day raising our risks of flash flooding late into Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. Tuesday night a second wave of moisture is expected to lift north from the southwest through our region bringing steady rains with imbedded downpours. Flash flooding is possible in areas that see multiple rounds of rain throughout the day and night. Temperatures will hold mostly steady from their daytime highs in the 50s settling into the low 50s at night. Wednesday morning showers and heavy downpours are expected raising concerns along our small creeks and streams as they struggle to deal with the runoff from Tuesday and continue rain showers through Wednesday midday. Thanks to a warm front, at least temperatures will be a touch warmer nudging the 70 degree mark for many in the southwestern counties. Mountains will hold tough in the upper 50s and low 60s. Once into the afternoon Wednesday steady rains break up with only a few scattered showers remaining. Clouds will be stubborn but some sunshine can be expected to peek through. Winds will be elevated 10-15mph with stronger gusts along the mountain and ridgetops. For a brief moment, high pressure settles over the region giving us more dry time than not into the late evening and overnight hours. Temps fall back into the upper 40s and low 50s on a damp and foggy night. Thursday will be a mostly cloudy day with some sunshine to start but a near by cold front will keep clouds stubborn. We're still on the warm side of the front allowing afternoon highs to push into the low 70s for most. A few showers in hit and miss fashion still roam but most of the energy will stay just towards our west for storms. Into the late evening the cold front finally arrives with scattered showers and an isolated rumble of thunder. Some heavy rain associated with these sparse storms could further overwhelm small creeks. Overnight rains will be steady as the front crosses from west to east with elevated winds 15-20mph. Friday will be a scattered shower kind of day as an area of low pressure hugs the Great Lakes bringing waves of showers our way. While not all day rain is expected as some breaks will be there, it'll be a good day to keep the umbrella close by in any regard. Highs take a hit with more west-northwesterly winds struggling into the mid and upper 60s for most. Mountains will struggle more with the upper 50s and low 60s for highs. Saturday won't be as soggy as Friday but a few showers push in from the northwest as our low slows down over New England and our jet stream set up overhead. A few showers is a good bet with more dry hours than not. A little sunshine the farther southwest of Beckley you are keeps temperatures floating in the low 70s for high. Mountains towards the northeast of Beckley will struggle into the low 60s. Sunday high pressure noses in but in a weaken fashion. A little more sunshine through stubborn clouds helps keep us near average in the low 70s but a stray shower can't be ruled out for folks along the ridgelines who deal with more low hanging clouds and drizzle. We'll dry out for a good spell into the night through Monday morning. In your extended forecast the unsettled patter continues with little hope for that true June summer preview weather. Temperatures will continue to bounce around as our jet stream continues to wobble thanks to polar influences. A few days will be at or just above our low 70 average while others succumb to a damper, cloudier run late into next week. MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAYGloomy, damp, sct. light rains. Highs in the low day, some breaks but not many. Highs in the upper heavy rain then more scattered PM. Highs in the low few showers, some dry time. Highs in the low sct. showers. High in the upper & Miss showers poss. Lots of dry time. Highs in the low dry time than not, passing shower at times. Highs in the low returns! Warmer, highs in the upper sunny, stray sprinkle poss. Highs in the upper yet, mostly sunny. Highs in the low sunny. Hit & miss shower South. Highs in the 70s. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Eyewitness Weather for Tuesday, May 20 — Another rainy end to the week
HERE IS YOUR EYEWITNESS WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY, MAY 20 FROM CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JORDAN REED: Later tonight, the weather starts to shift as rain begins to move in after midnight, starting in western New York and spreading across the region by Wednesday afternoon! It's going to be a damp and chilly Wednesday, and if you're in the southern areas, you might even hear a rumble or two of thunder. Some spots could see heavier rainfall, especially across the Southern Tier. The rain doesn't stop there—it'll continue Wednesday night and stick around through the end of the week. Thursday and Friday are looking pretty dreary, with cool, cloudy, and damp conditions as a slow-moving system lingers over the area. Highs will only reach the 50s on Thursday, and Friday could be even cooler, with nighttime lows dipping into the 40s. Fortunately, the Memorial Day Weekend brings a lot of relief. Saturday may still see some leftover showers thanks to a lingering low-pressure system over New England. Sunday and Memorial Day Monday will offer a bit of a break. What's more? Temperatures should start to climb back toward more typical levels as we move into early next week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
