Boalsburg hosting many events for memorial Day weekend
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – As Memorial Day approaches, the historic town of Boalsburg is hosting its annual celebration to celebrate the holiday. The tradition in Boalsburg began in October of 1864. Emma Hunter and her friend Sophie Keller were visiting family graves and spreading flowers, not knowing they were participating in the first Memorial Day service. The two made a pact to meet again on the same day the following year, before it eventually became a community event.
