"Bit of a surprise...": NZ pacer Duffy on being crowned number one T20I bowler
Hamilton: New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy opened up on being crowned as the number one T20I bowler in the ICC T20I rankings, calling his rise to the top of the table as "bit of a surprise". Duffy was rewarded for his recent heroics in the series against Pakistan as he reigned supreme in the latest ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings. Opening up on his achievement, Duffy told New Zealand Cricket as quoted by ICC, "It is a bit of a surprise. It is awesome to be amongst some of the players on that list. Getting that kind of recognition is pretty cool." "I honestly do not know what to say. I have had a lot of messages today around that kind of thing. It is a little bit surreal, to be honest," he added. Duffy became the first New Zealand player to hold the premier bowling ranking in men's T20I cricket since spinner Ish Sodhi in 2018. The 30-year-old rose to four spots in the latest rankings to leap past Wanindu Hasaranga, Adil Rashid, Varun Chakravarthy and Akeal Hosein, who held the top spot previously. In the absence of first-team regulars such as Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson, Duffy emerged as an impressive pacer for New Zealand. In the recent T20I series against Pakistan, he bagged an impressive 13 wickets from his five outings at an average of 8.38 as New Zealand emerged victorious 4-1. Duffy is also currently the joint-highest wicket-taker in the ODI series against Pakistan, with five dismissals from the two matches so far. "It has been amazing, just to be in and around the group for the last three or four years, sort of getting a game here and there, but to really get stuck in and play consistent games, get whole series, it has been awesome," he added. "I just want to be a regular member of the Black Caps across all three formats and win games of cricket for the country." Having gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, New Zealand will lock horns in the third and last ODI on Saturday, 5 April in Mount Maunganui.

Duffy grabs top spot in ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings
New Zealand seam bowler Jacob Duffy has grabbed the top spot in the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings after playing a useful part in his team's comprehensive victory in the last match against Pakistan in Wellington for a 4-1 series verdict. Duffy continued his ascent to displace West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein from the top spot. Duffy gained seven spots last week to be ranked joint-fifth with Adam Zampa and this week overtook Wanindu Hasaranga, Adil Rashid and Varun Chakravarthy apart from Hosein, with a haul of two for 18 that comprised the dismissals of opener Hasan Nawaz and number three bat Omair Yousuf. Ben Sears has also moved up 21 spots to 46th position among bowlers while Tim Seifert has achieved a career-best-equalling eighth position among batters after smashing an unbeaten 97 off 38 balls with six fours and 10 sixes. His opening partner Finn Allen has pushed up one spot to 15th. Pakistan's left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem has progressed 25 places to 86th position after grabbing two for six off two overs in the latest weekly rankings update that also includes the first ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan in Napier that the home side won by 73 runs. Mark Chapman's match-winning 132 off 111 deliveries with 13 fours and six sixes has helped him advance 24 places to 78th position while Pakistan batter Salman Agha has moved up six places to 37th after a knock of 58. In the ODI bowling rankings, Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf has moved back towards the top 10, progressing nine slots to 16th position after taking two for 38 while Naseem Shah is up one place to 42nd. New Zealand fast bowlers William O'Rourke (up 15 places to 56th) and Duffy (up 14 places to 95th) have also moved up the list. To know more about the ICC Rankings, please click here. Heroics in India help England spinner re-claim No.1 bowler ranking
England spinner Adil Rashid has been rewarded for his excellent recent form by re-claiming his position at the top of the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings. Rashid first claimed the No.1 ranking for T20I bowlers at the end of 2023 and remained in the premier spot for much of last year until fellow spinner Akeal Hosein overtook him prior to Christmas. Adil Rashid bowls an extraordinary spell of 2/13 in four overs against USA to win the POTM award. But a trio of strong showings with the ball against India away from home has helped Rashid return to the top, with the England right-armer gaining one place on the latest rankings following an excellent effort in the third T20I against the Asian side in Rajkot. Rashid claimed the economical figures of 1/15 from four overs in the clash to help England clinch a narrow 26-run victory that keeps the series alive, with the 36-year-old now having collected a total of three scalps across the first three matches of the five-game series that India leads 2-1. There is further movement inside the top 10 of the T20I bowling charts, with India spinner Varun Chakravarthy climbing 25 places to fifth following his five-wicket haul in Rajkot and England pacer Jofra Archer jumping 13 spots to sixth overall after two wickets in the same match. Men's T20I Bowler Rankings India spinner Axar Patel sits just outside the top 10 after moving up five spots to 11th on the same list, while there is a new challenger to Australia star Travis Head at the top of the rankings for T20I batters after young left-hander Tilak Varma jumped one spot to second. While Head still holds a 23-point lead at the top of the batter rankings, Varma is hot on his heels following scores of 19*, 72* and 18 from three hits for India so far against England. He could theoretically overtake Head with a pair of good scores during the final two matches of the series, with Head currently representing Australia against Sri Lanka at Test level in Galle. If Varma does manage to overtake Head, he will become the youngest-ever player to top the rankings. The current record for that is held by Babar Azam, who became the No.1-ranked T20I batter at the age of just 23 years and 105 days. Varma's 832 points are the fourth-best by an Indian batter in the batting rankings, bettered only by Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Every Travis Head boundary at T20 World Cup 2024 Abhishek Sharma (up 59 places to 40th) also makes big gains up the list for T20I batters, while Liam Livingstone (up five places to equal 32nd) and Ben Duckett (up 28 rungs to equal 68th) are the biggest movers from an England perspective. Men's T20I Batter Rankings There is also some change on the latest Test rankings following the series between Pakistan and the West Indies that finished 1-1, with a pair of bowlers making the biggest move via strong performances during the second Test in Multan.
