Pakistan Cricket Board, Jason Gillespie play blame-game over pending salary; PCB says Aussie coach ‘breached' contract
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied all claims made by former coach Jason Gillespie stating the Australian has breached his contract. Gillespie, who was initially appointed as the Pakistan Test coach, was later given the responsibility of the Men in Green's white-ball teams, has accused PCB of non-payment of his dues. Gillespie along with Gary Kirsten were appointed as Pakistan's Test and white-ball coaches respectively on a two-year contract in 2024. However, with the results not getting on Pakistan's way, Kirsten was the first to step down just after six months on his job. After the resignation of Kirsten, Gillespie was given the responsibility of Pakistan's white-ball teams in their tour of Australia. Upon their return, Gillespie too put down his papers stating disagreements with the PCB. Ever since resigning from his post, Gillespie has often criticised the PCB in various interviews for the way how Pakistan cricket operated and and even stated he still owes some remuneration from the 'Yeah, without going into the details, obviously still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done. So just navigate through that in due course. Admittedly, that has been a little bit disappointing but look, hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later. So yeah, hopefully, that gets sorted as soon as possible,' said the 50-year-old in one of the interviews recently. Reacting to Gillespie's comments, the PCB issues a statement which stated, "The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues. The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it.' First Published: 21 Apr 2025, 06:07 PM IST

Pakistan fined for third straight slow over-rate in final New Zealand ODI
Pakistan's national cricket team has been fined for a third consecutive slow over-rate offence during the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, compounding the disappointment of a 3-0 series defeat. The latest penalty was handed down following the third and final ODI at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on April 5, where the Mohammad Rizwan-led side was found to be one over short of the target after time allowances. The players have been docked five percent of their match fees under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate requirements. The sanction was imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel after the over-rate violation was confirmed by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Paul Reiffel, along with third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Wayne Knights. Captain Mohammad Rizwan accepted the charge, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. This marks the third fine for Pakistan in as many matches during the ODI leg of the tour, highlighting ongoing concerns about the team's match discipline. The punishment also comes on the heels of a poor overall performance by the Men in Green, who ended the tour with just one win across eight matches—losing the T20I series 4-1 and suffering a 3-0 whitewash in the ODIs. Pakistan's only victory came in the second T20I, thanks to a brilliant century from Hasan Nawaz. In contrast, the ODI series saw no standout batting performances, as Pakistan failed to mount a serious challenge in any of the three matches. The repeated over-rate infractions raise further questions about the team's on-field management and tactical execution as they prepare for upcoming international commitments.

Former Pakistani cricketer's son Muhammad Abbas to play against his own country
Listen to article Mohammad Arslan Abbas, the son of former Pakistani cricketer Azhar Abbas, is set to make his debut for New Zealand in the Kiwis' upcoming Pakistan. Arslan, a first-class cricketer, has been selected for the New Zealand squad based on his domestic performance. Azhar Abbas, who played 45 first-class matches, moved to New Zealand with his family, where he continued his cricketing career, playing for Auckland and Wellington. He is now the assistant coach for the Firebirds. Arslan Abbas, who can bat in the middle order and bowl, has been chosen for his versatility. New Zealand's squad will miss senior players like Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, and Glenn Phillips due to their commitments to the IPL in India. With these senior players absent, new players will have the opportunity to shine during the one-day series against Pakistan. Earlier, New Zealand's fast bowlers crushed Pakistan in swinging conditions and set up a massive 115-run win to help the home side clinch the series 3-1 with a match to spare at the Bay Oval on Sunday. The Men in Green were bowled out for just 105 chasing a mammoth 221-run target under lights. The last dead-rubber to be played on Wednesday at the Sky Stadium in Wellington. Jacob Duffy made early inroads, picking up three wickets inside the powerplay to dent Pakistan and they never recovered from the top-order collapse. Pakistan's chase never took off with New Zealand troubling them with swing and seam on offer. Unlike the game in Auckland, Pakistan couldn't take advantage of the dew factor. The chase began with Will O'Rourke, playing his first match of the series, removing Mohammed Haris with an excellent delivery, Duffy then dismissed Hasan Nawaz and captain Salman Agha in the second over to dent the visitors. Zakary Foulkes also struck instantly, as he cleaned up Shadab Khan in his first ball with an inswinger. Eventually, Pakistan lost eight wickets for 56 runs. The game was all but over at the halfway stage of the chase even though the No.7 Abdul Samad fought a lone battle with his 30-ball 44. Duffy came back for his final over and added one more wicket to his tally to end with 4 for 20 while Foulkes scalped three overall.

Basit Ali slams Pakistan after crushing defeat to New Zealand in fourth T20I
Pakistan endured a humiliating 115-run defeat against New Zealand in the fourth T20I at Mount Maunganui, drawing sharp criticism from former cricketer Basit Ali. After a stunning win in the third T20I, Pakistan's inexperienced batting lineup collapsed against the towering pace duo of Zakary Foulkes and Jacob Duffy. The Kiwis once again dominated Pakistan's bowlers, with Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan failing to contain the run flow. New Zealand crossed the 200-run mark yet again, exposing Pakistan's struggles with both bat and ball. Chasing 222, Pakistan desperately needed a standout innings, similar to Hassan Nawaz's unbeaten 105 in the previous game. However, Foulkes and Duffy tore through the batting order, sealing a commanding series win for New Zealand. Following the defeat, Basit Ali did not hold back in his criticism, suggesting Pakistan should compete against lower-ranked teams if they intend to persist with the current squad. "Kids are not playing against us. If you want to keep this team, do it against Nepal or Ireland. You are wasting time. Just like the domestic T20 tournament is a waste of time and money, this tour is just like that. It is better to play against Bangladesh," Basit said. Ali, who played 19 Tests and 30 ODIs for Pakistan from 1993-1996, was referring the currently-held National T20 Cup as 'waste of time,' the same way this New Zealand tour was. Throughout the chase, Pakistan's batters struggled against New Zealand's disciplined pace attack. Foulkes and Duffy used their height to extract bounce and swing, leaving the Men in Green reeling. With New Zealand securing an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, the final T20I in Wellington on Wednesday is now a mere formality.

"Wasting time": Basit Ali launches scathing attack after Pakistan's shambolic defeat against NZ
New Delhi: Former cricketer Basit Ali launched a scathing tirade after Pakistan received a humbling at the hands of New Zealand in the fourth T20I at Mount Maunganui. After scripting a memorable tale of victory in the third T20I, Pakistan's inexperienced batting unit was left gobsmacked by the lanky pace duo of Zakary Foulkes and Jacob Duffy. Just like the previous three T20Is, the story remained the same for Pakistan. The Kiwis continued to toy with Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan. The Men in Green bowlers handsomely gave away runs, and New Zealand crossed the 200-run mark in the series yet again. Pakistan needed one of its rising sensations to step up, just like Hassan Nawaz did during their previous outing with his unbeaten 105-run blitzkrieg. Pakistan's dream never turned into reality as Duffy and Foulkes bowled in tandem and cleaned up Pakistan's batting order without breaking a sweat. The Kiwis eventually put Pakistan out of their misery as the touring party succumbed to a 115-run defeat. After witnessing a shambolic display from Pakistan, Basit didn't mince his words while giving his take on the current Pakistan lot. He believes if the management and the board want to stick with the current setup, then Pakistan should play against Nepal or Ireland. "Kids are not playing against us. If you want to keep this team, do it against Nepal or Ireland. You are wasting time. Just like the domestic T20 tournament is a waste of time and money, this tour is just like that. It is better to play against Bangladesh," Basit said on his YouTube channel. Throughout the 221-run chase, Pakistan's batters appeared out of wits against a clinical New Zealand pace attack. Foulkes and Duffy made the most out of their height and generated bounce with the swing to level Pakistan in tatters. After New Zealand took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, the final T20I has turned into a dead rubber affair, which will be held in Wellington on Wednesday.
