Take part in cleaning drive: AMC to residents

, being conducted by the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC), is pinning hopes of its success on the voluntary participation of its residents.
The initiative, named 'Mera Ward Sabse Saaf', aims to promote regular cleaning of the drains, proper lifting and disposal of the municipal waste, and raise awareness among the residents about discarding dry and wet domestic garbage in the dedicated green and blue bins.

The programme also aims to prevent households from stocking building construction materials on the roadside and seeks the public's cooperation in locating potential mosquito breeding sites and cleaning them in a time-bound manner.
With an estimated population of 2.5 lakh and over 40,000 households, the AMC generates over 35 tonnes of municipal waste daily.
The central part of the initiative is that the residents are encouraged to actively participate in keeping their ward clean and organised, with the opportunity to win a prize in recognition of their effort.
"The effectiveness of the initiative will be proportionately high if the people's participation is more," AMC administrator Ravi Prakash said.
Meanwhile, the municipal body, on its part, deployed 10 cleaning workers in every ward to clean the clogged drains, including both small and big drains, across the 35 wards. Both the manual workforce and machines are being used to clean up the AMC area.
"Before the onset of the monsoon, the drains will be cleaned, and de-silting of the drains, particularly the big drains, will be done so that the issue of the drain water overflowing into the colonies will not be there this time around," Prakash said.
A supervisor has been deployed for the monitoring of the cleaning work for every two wards. "Throughout the monsoon and thereafter, the supervisor will be accountable for his job," Prakash added. In the past two weeks, 10 wards were cleaned, and in the next 10 days, the remaining 25 wards are expected to be cleaned.
