D Gukesh net worth: How much does the 19 year old chessmaster really make?

If you've been following the chess world lately, you've probably heard the name Gukesh Dommaraju — or just D Gukesh, as fans affectionately call him. This Indian chess whiz kid has been making some serious waves, and not just because of his mind-blowing skills on the board. The 18-year-old recently made history, and his bank account is reflecting that big time! Recently, he defeated world no.1 player Magnus Carlsen at Norway chess. Back in December 2024, Gukesh pulled off something most grandmasters only dream about. He became the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion in history, beating China's Ding Liren in a nail-biting 14-game showdown in Singapore. The final score? A tight 7.5 to 6.5 — enough to break Garry Kasparov's long-standing record as the youngest champ. Yeah, that's right — Kasparov was the GOAT before, but now Gukesh's name is etched alongside the legends. This epic win instantly launched Gukesh into the global spotlight. Chess fans everywhere were in awe, and suddenly, sponsors and brands started circling like bees to honey. And it's not just fame he's got now — it's some serious cash, too. The prize money that's making heads turn You might think chess isn't the most lucrative sport out there, but Gukesh's prize money is proving otherwise. As per reports, in 2024 alone, he raked in around ₹13.6 crore (that's roughly $1.58 million) just from prize winnings in various tournaments. A massive chunk of that came from his World Chess Championship win, where he pocketed about $600,000 (around ₹5.07 crore) for winning three games plus a share of the overall prize pool. To put it simply, Gukesh didn't just win a title — he won big. His championship earnings alone are estimated to be around ₹11.45 crore. Talk about a payoff for all those hours studying openings, middlegames, and endgames! Big brands want a piece of the action It's not just tournament cash that's filling up Gukesh's wallet. Thanks to his rising stardom, he's become a hot favorite for endorsements. He's already signed on as a brand ambassador for big names. Each deal reportedly brings in about ₹60 lakh, adding a nice boost to his overall income. Recognition for Gukesh's achievements has gone beyond cash. His school, Velammal Vidyalaya, showed some serious love by giving him a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This sweet ride is worth anywhere between ₹87 lakh and ₹1.05 crore, making it a luxury reward for his hard work and dedication. Imagine cruising around town in a sleek Mercedes, knowing you earned it all before turning 20. That's some serious motivation for any young athlete or professional. What's the total worth? Putting it all together, as of 2025, Gukesh Dommaraju's net worth is estimated to be over ₹21 crore — that's about $2.5 million, reportedly! This impressive number comes from a mix of tournament prize money, endorsements, sponsorships, and some pretty generous rewards. Gukesh's journey hasn't been overnight He started playing chess when he was just 6 years old and quickly showed promise. By the time he was 12, he was already breaking records as one of the youngest grandmasters ever. His disciplined training, guidance from coaches, and relentless passion helped him climb the ranks at lightning speed. Plus, with Indian chess booming thanks to legends like Viswanathan Anand, Gukesh had great role models and support systems to push him forward. Now, he's the new face of Indian chess and a global superstar. With the title of World Champion under his belt and a solid financial foundation, the sky's the limit for Gukesh. Fans are already excited to see how he handles the pressure of defending his title and continuing to evolve as a player. But if his past is any indication, Gukesh is ready to take on whatever challenges come his way. D Gukesh's story is an inspiring one — a young talent turning dreams into reality and making a fortune doing what he loves. His rise shows that chess isn't just a game of strategy but also a path to fame and financial success in the modern world.

The car is one of the luxury sedans sold in the Indian market and comes at a starting price of Rs 79.50 lakh (ex-showroom). With this price tag, it is the third most expensive sedan in the brand's lineup sold in the Indian market, trailing behind the S-Class and the EQS, excluding models with the Maybach or AMG treatment. Besides this, the car is also available in High Tech Silver, Polar White, Nautic Blue, and Graphite Grey colours. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes with three versions: E200, E 450 4MATIC, and E220d. Each variant with a different powertrain. The E 450 gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol that makes 381 hp and 500 Nm. Mercedes-Benz E-Class: German engineers really don't joke with cars

Class of its own: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is topping its segment due to its functionality and luxury. There are few cars that hold sentimental value to me. In fact, there are only three. One is the VW Polo Vivo because it was my first car. Another is the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, because my mother has owned one for almost 20 years and it was the car I learnt to drive in. The third is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class because my father drove one from 2005 to 2013, so I basically grew up in the backseat of that vehicle. That E-Class was the final refresh of the second generation. At the time, it was a premium sedan, packed with a full leather interior and a CD player that could support up to six CDs at a time. But, ultimately, it was solid and comfortable. It gave our family years of great service and some special memories along the way. After it was sold, I had never sat in another E-Class until this week, when I had the chance to test the new one. Now in its sixth generation, it was also a chance to see just how far the German manufacturer has come with the E-Class in 20 years. I've seen changes in the exterior over the years but this generation's is a head turner. The short front overhang and long bonnet give the front a dazzling look, capped by a large kidney grille with a panel which connects both headlights. The side of the car has two separate character lines that run all the way through to the back. Retractable door handles are optional in the new E-Class but they really do add an extra touch of pizzazz. When you get to the back, the E-Class gets even better. One of the best features is that the two-section rear LED lights are connected by a bar. It's actually difficult to put into words just how gorgeous Mercedes-Benz has made the exterior of this vehicle. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a light bar connecting the two taillights. The interior However, the interior is where Mercedes-Benz really grips you, spoiling you with luxury. Besides the white leather (optional), which is aesthetically pleasing, the comfort that the driver and passenger experience is second to none. Rear passengers are given more space, compared with previous E-Class generations, as the German manufacturer has extended the wheelbase in this vehicle. But, comfort wise, there's really nothing in this segment that gives you the feeling that the E-Class does. In addition, you'd be hard-pressed to find any other vehicle in its segment that can give you an interior so elegant. I mentioned the white leather seats. These fit well with the black multifunctional steering wheel and the slightly rounded dashboard which can accommodate two screens — the main infotainment display and a screen for the passenger. This is known as the MBUX superscreen and is optional for an additional R64 000. That is a lot of money to be paying for an extra screen when you already have a massive one capable of doing everything you need. The vehicle also comes with a screen that acts as a fully digital instrument cluster for the driver. While there was a lack of buttons, I did find the aircon controls easily accessible on the main infotainment screen, but I'm still not a fan of how much manufacturers are packing into the infotainment screen. This means, to change any vehicle settings, you need to navigate through it. You can also get the marque's version of Siri, known as the MBUX interior assistant. She is meant to do simple tasks, like close your windows or open the sunroof, and can keep you company if you are lonely — although she could work on her sense of humour. When I asked the assistant to tell me a joke, she replied: 'German engineers don't joke with cars.' Seldom has there been a worse joke but, equally, seldom has there been a more true saying. It was apparent that even the voice control knew just how much quality was packed into this E-Class. The MBUX superscreen gives the passenger their own infotainment system. The drive German engineering is not just about comfort and luxury. It has always been about ride quality first. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available in a petrol or diesel variant in South Africa. We had the diesel variant, which is powered by an 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that delivers 145kW of power and 440Nm of torque. The petrol engine gives you 5kW more power. In the SUV world, the Mercedes-Benz E220d was more sure and stable on the road than the high cars some of us are so used to. From the time you take off to the time you end your journey, it is a seamless drive, whether you are in an urban setting or on the open road. However, it is important to remember that this is by no means a performance vehicle. While it is certainly not underpowered, it's not going to zoom from place to place. Rather, the E-Class is meant to keep you comfortable while you cruise. Spacious: The extended wheelbase of the new E-Class means that the backseat passengers get more room. Safety The E-Class received a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP and an 87% score for safety-assist features. It comes equipped with active distance control, attention assist, active brake assist and active lane-keeping assist. The parking package, with reversing camera, is also standard. There are optional safety features that you can add on, like active steering assist, and if this is no longer available because the lane markings are not clearly visible, it signals to the driver by vibrations in the steering wheel. While most optional extras are difficult to advocate for, this one would be especially helpful on South African roads. Verdict The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was a finalist in the executive category in the 2025 SA Car of the Year awards, alongside the BMW 5 Series. It gives you comfort and luxury almost beyond belief. Coupled with its stunning exterior, it must be said that, in its segment, it is a cut above the rest. The E200 (petrol) costs R1 344 750 and the E220d (diesel) comes in at R1 430 550. While it is worth it, the optional extras were a major put-off for me. Our test vehicle was the AMG-line, which came with the MBUX superscreen and had the leather package. It also came with many additional extras, but to me, the three mentioned above are what really elevate the E-Class. With these options included, it will set you back R1 639 550.

Greensboro police release image of suspect vehicle involved in school bus hit-and-run

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The Greensboro Police Department has released an image of the vehicle suspected to be involved in a recent hit-and-run crash with a Guilford County School bus. On April 7 at 3:42 p.m., emergency crews responded to the crash at the intersection of Bridford Parkway and Hornaday Road. Several students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver and a student were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. According to the GPD, the initial investigation determined the bus was traveling south on Bridford Parkway, passing through the intersection of Hornaday Road with a green light, when a car approached from the north on Bridford Parkway, made an improper left turn across several lanes of Bridford Parkway and failed to yield to the bus when the crash happened. The car then fled on Hornaday Road toward Guilford College Road. The suspect vehicle is described as a teal mid-1990s to early 2000s Mercedes-Benz E-Class with dark-tinted windows, a tinted back windshield, a sunroof and gray stock wheel covers. It should have damage, missing a rear passenger side brake lens cover and rear bumper protective strip. This is an ongoing investigation. Florida caregiver accused of stealing 75-year-old's car, using credit card for spa treatment

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida caregiver is accused of stealing a 75-year-old woman's car and using the victim's credit card to pay for a spa treatment. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Sarah Works gained the trust of the 75-year-old woman by inserting herself into the victim's life as a caregiver. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim said she gave Works access to her credit card to purchase food and groceries. The 75-year-old woman said she also allowed Works to use her vehicle in the past, for grocery runs and to take the victim to and from doctor appointments. On Feb. 14, while the victim was in a hospital, Works had her sign paperwork to authorize access to her credit card. The victim told deputies that Works was supposed to deliver food to the victim before 8 p.m. but never arrived. However, the victim said she learned that fraudulent charges had been made to her credit card at a Miami spa, charges which she did not authorize. On Feb. 15, the victim texted Works 'I would like you to stop using my car, return it to my house today or I will press charges.' She also told deputies to list her Mercedes-Benz E-Class as stolen. The next day, a deputy drove by Work's house and found the victim's car in the driveway. An officer with the Port St. Lucie Police Department later conducted a traffic stop on the stolen car, according to the affidavit. Works was placed into custody and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. On Wednesday, March 19, detectives with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Works' home. Works was charged with scheme to defraud, fraudulent use of credit cards and criminal use of personal identification. 'Fraud and elder abuse are crimes that not only violate the law but also betray the trust of our most vulnerable citizens. We will continue to take a strong stance against those who exploit and harm others for personal gain,' said Sheriff Richard Del Toro. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
