Brooklyn ‘No Kings' protests culminate at Grand Army Plaza

GRAND ARMY PLAZA, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Despite the steady rainfall dozens of demonstrators lined the street across from Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, holding signs and chanting as part of the nationwide 'No Kings' protests. The rally started as a larger march throughout parts of Brooklyn before it culminated at Grand Army Plaza near Prospect Park. Protestors told PIX11 News they gathered to 'show the world what real democracy looks like.' More Local News The protests drew people from across the borough braving the weather to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump. Protestors say the moment feels too urgent to ignore. 'Everything is terrible and I've never even been to a protest before. I'm actually scared of them, but I couldn't sit at home anymore and scroll on my phone. I'm like crying because I'm a teacher and I love my students and I see their pain and their fear and I care about them,' said one demonstrator named Meredith Smart. It scares me and it upsets me and I'm out here making sure that there's a voice to be said basically that's like we're all Americans we should stay together,' said another protestor named Pat Brennan. 'We should be reaching out and helping one another, and not trying to create environments of fear and hatred.' The demonstration at Grand Army Plaza was one of several nationwide happening ahead of a military parade in Washington meant to honor the Army's 250th anniversary and President Trump's birthday.
