Heatwave map highlights temperature spike as summer conditions to return
Hot weather is set to return to Ireland but we will be made to wait.
This week has seen a turn for the worse in most areas as the country deals with a spell of rain, wind and a drop in temperatures during a period of low pressure for the island. This comes as temperatures soar in Europe and Ireland could benefit from the warmer temperatures but it will be more than a week before such conditions land here.
Countries such as Spain, France and other areas in northern Europe are experiencing temperatures more than 15C higher than the average for this time of year.
Met4Cast posted the map on X, writing: "The overnight ECM is signalling some very concerning heat across Spain, France & indeed Europe with temperatures some 10-16°C above average for the time of year."
The south of the United Kingdom will have better luck availing of the heatwave conditions affecting Europe this week but it won't be until closer to the middle of June that Ireland experiences a spike in temperatures.
Speaking of the week beginning on June 9, a Met Eireann spokesperson said: "This will bring more settled and warmer conditions with temperatures increasing slightly above average across the country. It will be drier also with rainfall amounts below average nationwide."
The remainder of this week, including the Bank Holiday weekend, will be dominated by unsettled conditions so rain, wind and slightly cooler temperatures are forecast.
This is due to a mobile Atlantic regime taking hold and bringing with it changeable weather for the most part over the next week or so.
