Monday forecast: Warm late February day in Chicagoland, high temps in mid-50s in some locations
What a difference a week makes. At the start of last week, Chicagoland was plunging into a stretch of sub-freezing conditions. At the start of this week, we're going to see high temperatures soar into the 50s. Monday is certainly off to a spring-like start, with early-morning temps already crossing 40 in some spots, which is around 15 to 20 degrees warmer than it was 24 hours prior. High temps Monday are projected to reach the low to mid-50s, with wind gusts out of the west/southwest reaching up to around 30 miles per hour. Locations in southern and western areas will be especially warm, with projected highs in the mid-50s. It'll be mostly cloudy Monday, but also mostly dry, with a slight chance for an isolated shower or two in the afternoon. Rain chances increase into Monday night, by around 7 or 8 p.m. While it may not stay as warm as Monday, early spring-like weather continues all week in Chicagoland, with highs in the 40s and lower 50s. Weather Maps Weather & Climate News Interactive Radar Weather Bug Cameras 7-Day Outlook Weather Center Newsletter The extended outlook calls for continued mild temps on Tuesday, with highs near 50 and partly sunny skies. Wednesday looks soggy, with a chance of rain at times and highs in the mid- to low 50s. It'll be a bit cooler for Thursday, with highs in the lower 40s and partly sunny skies. Then it's back into the upper 40s on Friday for the last day of both February and Meteorological Winter, which consists of the full months of December through February. Things then look to cool off into the weekend, with high temps in the upper 30s, still well above freezing. It's the changing jet streams that have sent the arctic air packing this week, allowing mild Pacific air to take up residence across much of the lower 48 states as the weekend came to a close: Below represents the departure from normal just above the surface. Sunday forecast: Sunshine, high temps in mid-40s as Chicagoland gets an early taste of spring
We're all wise enough to know that winter is far from over in Chicagoland. But it's sure nice to get an early taste of spring, and Mother Nature is going to deliver it this week. High temperatures won't quite reach 50 on Sunday, but the forecast calls for that possibility for five straight days during the coming work week. As for Sunday, we're expected to get plenty of sunshine, with high temps reaching the mid-40s. That'll still be about 10 degrees warmer than Saturday, when Chicagoland finally snapped a string of 12 straight days with temps below freezing. Early-morning temps Sunday ranged in the mid-20s around the area, with wind chills a little colder, but not much colder. Winds are calm to start Sunday, but they're expected to pick up in the overnight hours, with gusts out of the southwest up to 25 or 30 miles per hour. But it's those southwesterly winds that'll keep temps well above average for late February, with some areas in Chicagoland possibly experiencing temps above freezing for 24 straight hours from Sunday into Monday. There's also some precipitation in the forecast this week, but it's all rain, not snow. However, snow could return to the forecast with colder temps next week, so don't put away the shovels and boots just yet! Phenomenal forecast headed this way
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — As of 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, temperatures were dramatically warmer than what the region saw on Friday. Just about everyone along the I-25 corridor is at least 10 degrees warmer than they were 24 hours ago. Some spots along the Eastern Plains are more than 20 degrees warmer. This warm pattern is expected to continue for the next several days, at least. Models are indicating an abnormally quiet stretch of weather through the beginning of March. Temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees above average for the week. Typically, during this time of year, temperatures average around the 50-degree mark, depending on the exact location. The end of February signals the end of Meteorological Winter and it will certainly feel that way as the month starts to wrap up. Temperatures lately have been icy cold. Just last week, much of Southern Colorado was more than 30 degrees below normal as the region had to deal with an Arctic Blast. Moving forward, it looks like things are heading in the other direction. The temperature trend is highlighting some much warmer conditions for the end of the weekend and into next week. Highs on Sunday will largely be in the 50s and 60s making it a great day to get outside and enjoy one of the first days of 'false Spring'. Everyone knows this won't last – not around these parts anyway. A look at the next three days shows much the same: 50s and 60s with lots of sunshine to go around. A few different spots, such as Pueblo, may even graze the lower 70s with a nice stretch of warmth on the way. If, however, you are looking for more snow, you may have to wait until the first few days of March are over. Of course, forecasting nearly 10 days out is quite difficult and a lot may still change. Models are hinting at a more active stretch of weather to kick off next month. Be sure to check back in with the FOX21 Storm Team as conditions continue to evolve. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
