Urgent recall of cute gift items sold in Tesco and Card Factory due to ‘serious risk of fire'
The gifts feature an iconic character and were sold in Tesco, WH Smith and Card Factory. Several popular gift items sold in Tesco, Amazon, WH Smith and Card Factory have been urgently recalled as they present a 'serious risk of fire', the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has announced. Many styles of the 'Me to You' decorative cushions have been named in the recall by greetings card company Carte Blanche Greets Ltd. The OPSS stated: "Affected products have been identified as presenting a risk of fire, as they do not meet the required fire safety standards. The products do not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988." Several designs of the cushions have been named in the recall, which were for sale at a range of retailers. The full list of thirteen styles of recalled cushions included Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day editions of the 'Tatty Teddy' gifts. Some of the cushions had been on sale since 2022, and others had been available to purchase since last November. According to the recall notice, the products were manufactured in China. The OPSS also shared that "owners are advised to stop using affected products immediately and return them to the retailer where the product was purchased for a full refund." Here's a full list of the thirteen recalled products: Me to You, Tatty Teddy Valentine's Day 'Home Is Where You Are' Cushion (barcode: 5059105280249) Me to You, Tatty Teddy 'You Make Me Happy' Valentine's Cushion (barcode: 5059105239377) Me to You Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Love and Hugs for Mum' Cushion (barcode: 5059105243039) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Mum You Are One In A Million' Cushion (barcode: 5059105189856) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Happiness is a Mum's Hug' Cushion (barcode: 5059105285053) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Valentine's 'Hugs and Kisses' Cushion (barcode: 5059105182697) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Home is Where My Mum Is' Cushion (barcode: 5059105232507) Me to You, Tatty Teddy 'Love and Hugs Just for You' Cushion (barcode: 5059105196656) Me to You Tatty Teddy, Mother's Day 'Reserved for Nan ' Cushion (barcode: 5059105232514) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Thanks for Bee-ing an Amazing Mum' Cushion (barcode: 5059105182130) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Mother's Day 'Hugs for Nan' Cushion (5059105182147) Me to You, Tatty Teddy Valentine's 'Love is all you Need' Cushion (barcode: 5059105180914) Me to You, Tatty Teddy 'Have a Wonderful Christmas' Cushion (barcode: 5059105209486) Tatty Teddy has become an iconic character on gift items in the UK over the years, and the little grey bear was born from a sketch by British artist Mike Payne in 1987. Your product recall rights Chief consumer reporter James Flanders reveals all you need to know. Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods. As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action. But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk. If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer's website to see if a safety notice has been issued. When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault. If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer. They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice. In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected. You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item
