Multiple arrests, citations given in St. Patrick's Day DUII enforcement mission
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland-area law enforcement has ramped up DUII missions this St. Patrick's Day weekend, already resulting in multiple arrests and nearly 200 citations.
Since the high-visibility DUII enforcement missions began Friday evening, early statistics from that night show 260 traffic stops were conducted, 172 traffic citations were issued and 11 people were arrested. Of those arrested, seven drivers were impaired, police said.
How the Shamrock Run will affect Portland traffic
PPB says they hope their multi-agency Metro Area Traffic Enforcement Collaboration will aid in the effort to 'reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.'
During last year's DUII enforcement effort, 75 arrests were made and 950 citations were issued in connection to speeding, impaired driving and distracted driving, officials said.
To help curb impaired driving, the Portland Bureau of Transportation is also on taxi, Lyft and Uber rides.
Police said the missions will last through Tuesday morning, the day after the St. Patrick's holiday.
