Country Singer Conner Smith Named in Death of 77-Year-Old Woman

A 77-year-old woman later identified as Dorothy Dobbins was killed after she was struck by a vehicle on 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street in Nashville on June 8. A statement from the Metro Nashville Police Department on Monday, June 9 stated that a 24-year-old man named Conner Smith was behind the wheel during Sunday's accident. Smith, 24, was allegedly driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he hit Dobbins, who was crossing the roadway. "It appears that she was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins, who lived nearby, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died," the statement from the Metro Nashville Police Department said. "The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian." Smith showed no signs of impairment at the time of the accident and no charges have been filed, though the investigation remains ongoing. Smith's attorney Worrick G. Robinson told Billboard in a statement: 'On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life. His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.' The Nashville native first broke through in 2021, when his song 'I Hate Alabama' went viral on TikTok. He later issued the EP Didn't Go Too Far in 2022 and followed with the singles 'Learn From It' and 'Take It Slow.' Smith's biggest hit came in 2024 with 'Creek Will Rise,' which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 89 and rose to No. 12 on the Country Airplay Singer Conner Smith Named in Death of 77-Year-Old Woman first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Three teenagers — two of whom were previously charged in connection with a 2023 shooting — were taken into custody and a gun was recovered as a result of an investigation by Nashville detectives Saturday afternoon. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, detectives initially saw a stolen gray Acura MDX speed out of the 7-Eleven in the 300 block of White Bridge Road, so they followed the SUV until additional units arrived. Officials said the vehicle traveled north on Briley Parkway and exited onto Ashland City Highway, which is where the suspects became aware of the law enforcement presence. They reportedly started driving recklessly at excessive speeds while a police helicopter passed information on to the ground units. Wanted man arrested for reckless driving, other charges in Mt. According to law enforcement, the 17-year-old driver tossed a 9mm handgun on the ground as he fled. In addition, detectives found a wallet in the SUV that had been reported stolen after an auto burglary in the 3000 block of Charlotte Avenue on Thursday, June 5. As for the Acura, police said it had been reported stolen between the late night hours on Wednesday, June 4 and the following morning from a Rice Road apartment complex in South Nashville. ‘People are dying': Deadly street racing crash in Antioch highlights citywide problem

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One Antioch resident has called for infrastructure improvements from city leaders after a street racing fatality in his neighborhood. The Metro Nashville Police Department announced that an 18-year-old driver died from injuries sustained during a street racing-related crash in the 2900 block of Anderson Road just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Two 17-year-old passengers were also injured in the crash and were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. ORIGINAL STORY: Teen killed in street racing crash on Anderson Road in Antioch '[I was] watching the TV and I heard a big bang — a big noise, and then I I came out; I found all this mess,' homeowner Amer Ameen told News 2, gesturing to debris in the yard. The accident left Ameen's yard in shambles and he's been left to pick up the debris. The vehicle traveled through his yard, hitting a mailbox, a light pole and Ameen's parked van. Ameen said he's thankful he had parked the van where he did because the vehicle could have crashed directly into his house. Street racing has been a problem in areas across Nashville. In 2020, the MNPD started its Street Racer Enforcement Initiative. Metro Councilmember for District 19, Jacob Kupin, said that the initiative has made more stops. Earlier this year, two tourists were killed in Kupin's district in a high-speed street racing related crash in The Gulch. He believes there's a lot more to do to stop street racing. DECEMBER 2024 | 'I feel like we owe it to victims and their families': Residents advocate for stricter street racing enforcement 'People are dying,' Kupin said. 'Council worked together with the Minority Caucus and a number of our colleagues to pass a resolution asking MNPD for additional traffic enforcement in the areas of speeding and reckless driving, drunk driving — things like that.' Ameen told News 2 that he believes it's time for the city to invest a traffic light at the intersection of Anderson Road and Kinwood Drive to help slow down cars. He also thinks the signage could help save lives. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
