In ‘great news' for Californians, chain plans two restaurants in Boise area

Boise's transformation into California restaurant-chain paradise shows no sign of slowing. With In-N-Out Burger fully entrenched in the area, and Wienerschnitzel having arrived, another Golden State brand is on the way. El Pollo Loco, which recently submitted a pre-application request with the city of Meridian to open a 2,000-square-foot restaurant at 3471 W. Chinden Blvd. (near the intersection with Ten Mile Road), now has plans for Nampa, too. The Mexican-style brand has leased 'over half an acre of land at Northside Boulevard and Nampa-Caldwell Boulevard,' according to a press release from Summit Commercial Real Estate Group. The address is 95 2nd St. South. Known for its 'famous citrus-marinated, fire-grilled chicken,' El Pollo Loco's Idaho moves are exciting transplants from California. When a Boise radio station posted about the Nampa lease on Facebook, enthusiastic online responses followed. In a comment that received 27 reactions, one person declared, 'I'm from California and this is great news!' 'Don't toy with me!!!' another commenter wrote. 'Their avocado salsa is insane!!! So good!!!' A 'SoCal staple,' as the chain refers to itself, El Pollo Loco was founded in 1974 — in Mexico. It now has more than 495 locations in seven states: California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Louisiana, according to a press release. If you've eaten at Fiesta Chicken — a similar local concept in Boise — you already have a grasp of El Pollo Loco's bird-focused menu. The chain serves delicious, if not addictive, chicken — in tacos, burritos, tostadas, salads, bowls and meals. A real-estate listing indicates the Nampa restaurant is 'opening soon,' but a publicist for El Pollo Loco did not immediately respond with information about a target date. In April, Tim Welsh, El Pollo Loco's chief development officer, provided a prepared statement about the Meridian store. 'We've been working with a franchise partner to bring El Pollo Loco's signature, fire-grilled chicken to the Boise area,' he said. 'We're excited to have identified a location and are optimistic we will have our entitlements approved in the coming months. While we don't yet have an opening date for this restaurant, we look forward to being part of the Meridian community in the near future.'

Beloved taco restaurant closing iconic location after 63 years

In recent years, restaurants just have not been able to catch a break. In 2020, stay-at-home orders made in-person dining impossible for months. And once restaurants were able to welcome diners back in, issues arose. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Generous stimulus policies, including boosted unemployment benefits, made it very difficult for restaurants to find workers. Supply chain issues also made it tough for restaurants to get their hands on the ingredients they needed. Related: After closing 600 locations, fast-food chain has many more planned More recently, inflation has pushed restaurants to the brink. It's gotten increasingly expensive for restaurants to source ingredients and supplies. And the tactic of passing those costs on to consumers hasn't been working, since many Americans are cash-strapped themselves due to generally higher living costs. Not surprisingly, a number of big names in the restaurant space have closed their doors or filed for bankruptcy in recent years. And if current economic conditions persist, more restaurant closures could be in store. A big reason so many restaurants have sought out Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection or closed their doors these past few years has boiled down to money, or a lack thereof. But money isn't the only reason a famed restaurant might choose to shutter. The restaurant business is a brutal one to be in, and owning a restaurant isn't for the faint of heart. Related: Iconic restaurant closing its doors after 32 years Often, it means working long hours and enduring lots of stress for limited financial upside. So for some establishments, closures come as a result of owner burnout. In some cases, though, restaurants are effectively forced to close for reasons outside their control. San Antonio's Southside neighborhood is known for its taquerias that serve authentic Tex-Mex and Mexican-style dishes. But now, a popular taco restaurant is closing its doors for good after a successful 63 years in business. The worst part? The restaurant is being forced to vacate its iconic location so the city can construct a bridge. Related: KFC's newest restaurant concept has customers obsessed Oscar's Taco House, a beloved restaurant that's been serving up Tex-Mex classics and comfort food since 1962, is shuttering at the end of June so the city can use the land it sits on for construction. As Alex Pruneda told MySA, "The city bought us. They've been saying it for five or 10 years now that they want to build a bridge." Pruneda also said the city initially wanted the restaurant to shutter by May 15, but he was able to extend its stay until June 28. That gives fans of the famous restaurant a few more weeks to get their fill of the dishes they know and love. Fans of Oscar's Taco House took to Facebook to express their disappointment over the news. "I'm really saddened," one user said. "This place has been a staple for comfort food in my family for years and memories," said another. Known for its famous puffy tacos, fans of Oscar's have long appreciated its old-school, authentic vibe. The restaurant was so successful that it was able to thrive, despite not even having an online system for ordering food like so many eateries do. Some fans of Oscar's suggested that the restaurant try to find a new location. But the general consensus is that relocating just won't work. The restaurant has a certain feel that probably can't be mimicked elsewhere. Starbucks summer 2025 menu debuts Tuesday: What to know

Starbucks' new summer menu, featuring a limited-time drink, drops Tuesday. The coffee chain's new seasonal offerings include the Iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, available for a limited time, and the Strawberries & Cream Cake Pop. New drinkware and a new collection created in collaboration with the Brazilian brand FARM Rio is also out now. The Iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso is made with Starbucks' Blonde Espresso; horchata-flavored syrup with notes of cinnamon, vanilla and nutty rice milk; oat milk; and ice. According to Starbucks, the cold refreshment is inspired by the Mexican-style horchata drink that's popular "throughout Latin America and beyond." The Strawberries & Cream Cake Pop -- a strawberry cream cake base mixed with buttercream, chocolate icing, and a strawberry design -- is also joining the existing cake pop lineup, which already includes the Birthday Cake Pop, Chocolate Cake Pop, and Cookies & Cream Cake Pop. Starbucks is also bringing back fan-favorite Summer-Berry Refreshers, which can be mixed with or without lemonade, for the season. The iced drinks feature raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry flavors and include raspberry-flavored pearls. For a creamier treat, customers can also ask for the drink mixed with coconut milk, a concoction dubbed the Summer Skies Drink. At Starbucks Reserve locations in Chicago, New York City and Seattle, the summer menu will also feature new Ube Espresso Martinis, Masala Chai Lattes, and Crispy Hashbrown Egg Cups.

He's a pitcher and he is from San Diego, but he is going to be a permanent resident of Canada soon and living in the area.' Article content Urbaez, a 27-year-old from Miami, holds the distinction of a couple of firsts for the Titans: first player to hit a grand slam (in 2023) and first player to hit three home runs in a single game (in 2022). Article content Larson, 27, was named a league all-star in both of the past two seasons. In 2024, he had a complete-game, four-hit, 13-strikeout victory against the New Jersey Jackals. Article content Article content 'Lots of stuff,' GM Martin Boyce says. 'We still have the standard baseball food like hot dogs and hamburgers and fries and that sort of thing. But we have a very unique Latin food vendor that operates here called Mr. Senor, which provides authentic Mexican-style cuisine. Article content All Frontier League games in 2025 are to be streamed online by HomeTeam Network. Rates announced in April included single-game ($9.99 plus tax), monthly ($19.99 plus tax) and season-long ($74.95 plus tax) packages.
