Mandeni head-on collision claims two lives

Two people lost their lives and seven others were rushed to hospital following a head-on collision in Mandeni this afternoon. According to Samantha Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, the crash involved two vehicles on the Mandeni Link Road. The first vehicle was carring two women; one died at the scene, while the other was critically injured and taken to hospital. 'The other vehicle was a seven-seater. The 27-year-old male driver sadly passed away, and his six passengers were transported to the hospital for further care,' said Meyrick. Michael Sheen shares emotional message following dad's death His father was a 'hugely valued regular' of the dementia group in Port Talbot prior to his death and the star has shared a fundraiser to support the cause Michael's father, Meyrick, died earlier this month (Image: WalesOnline/Rob Browne ) Michael Sheen has shared a heartfelt message about the Welsh charity he credits with giving his parents some "much appreciated joy". The Welsh actor said the dementia charity in Port Talbot "do so much with so little" to help those living with the condition. The Sunflower Café in Taibach was set up in October 2022 to support those living with dementia in the Port Talbot area. Michael's parents, Meyrick and Irene, were part of the group from the very first meeting and were said to have become "hugely valued regulars" of the Tuesday afternoon group. ‌ Michael wrote on X: "The Sunflower Cafe gave my Dad & Mum some much appreciated joy and support in the last years of his life. ‌ "They do so much with so little to help those living with Dementia. You can donate in my Dad's memory here should you wish to." Content cannot be displayed without consent The group have set up a fundraiser in his memory. Article continues below They wrote: "Meyrick and his lovely wife Irene attended the very first meeting and became hugely valued regulars, enjoying the sense of warmth, support, friendship and community that we have enjoyed every Tuesday afternoon since then. "Always ready with a smile and a twinkle in his eye, Meyrick took part in many of the activities on offer, whether light exercise, an art class or a singalong with the ukulele band, and he will be sorely missed." The charity explained all the donations would go towards rent, refreshments and ensuring the valued service continues to help others in the local community. ‌ Michael Sheen pictured with his late father Earlier this month Michael took to X to announce the very sad news of his father's death. A tragic head-on collision on the R102, near the KwaDukuza Saps Station, has left two people dead and several others injured. According to Samantha Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, emergency teams rushed to the scene on Saturday afternoon following reports of a serious crash. A father and his 8-year-old son died on the scene after suffering serious injuries. 'Another five family members were injured, including three children aged between 8 and 13. One patient was severely entrapped in the wreckage and required urgent assistance, ' said Meyrick. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital by private transport before emergency services arrived. The passenger sustained minor injuries and declined further medical treatment.
