GB snowboarder Brookes bids to defend title at Worlds
Britain's Mia Brookes will be defending her slopestyle world title [Getty Images] Great Britain's 2023 world champions Mia Brookes (snowboard slopestyle) and Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale (team snowboard cross) are looking to defend their titles at the 2025 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships. The event is taking place in Engadin, Switzerland and sees the world's best athletes compete in slopestyle, halfpipe, big air, ski and snowboard cross, parallel giant slalom, aerials, and moguls. Great Britain has sent an 18-strong team squad which includes current 2024-25 joint-Crystal Globe ski halfpipe holder Zoe Atkin, and Kirsty Muir, fresh from her World Cup win in Tignes. World stars to look out for On the global front, USA's double Olympic champion in the snowboard halfpipe Chloe Kim has returned from a break from the sport in 2022-23 and looks rejuvenated. New Zealand's reigning snowboard slopestyle Olympic champion Zoi Sadowski-Synnott will be a big contender in her favourite event having also taken home the most recent X Games crown. Teenager Brookes wins World Cup snowboard title for GB
British athlete Mia Brookes has won the overall World Cup Snowboard Park & Pipe 18-year-old, who in 2023 became the youngest world champion in snowboard history at the age of 16, took the title after the cancellation of the finals of the Absolut Park Slopestyle World has recorded seven World Cup podiums this season including victories in Beijing, Klagenfurt and takes the title with 500 World Cup points, 35 clear of Japan's Mari Fukada in second, while New Zealander Zoi Sadowski-Synott claimed third with 436 was more British success as Kirsty Muir took her maiden World Cup skiing victory with a sensational performance at the Tignes Slopestyle World only returned to action from a serious knee injury in February after a year out, the 20-year-old beat Australia's Abi Harrigan and New Zealand's Ruby Star Andrews, who were second and third said: "I'm so stoked, just over the moon. I'm super happy to get a clean run down and make it on to the top of the podium – first time!"I'm back stronger than I was which is even better. This is what I wanted and here I am – first World Cup win and after my knee, I'm just so stoked."

GB's Brookes wins slopestyle World Cup bronze
Great Britain's Mia Brookes won bronze at the Slopestyle World Cup in Calgary. Brookes, the 2023 world champion, scored 74.08 to comfortably secure a podium finish ahead of Australia's Tess Coady. Fukada Mari just edged Germany's Annika Morgan to secure her first slopestyle World Cup gold. Morgan had topped the standings with 76.30, but the 18-year-old Japanese scored 77.58 with the final run of the competition to claim victory.
