Channel Nine footy show stars Phil Gould and Michael Chammas have off-camera blow-up after fiery clash on live TV

It's been revealed that the heated exchange between Bulldogs kingpin Phil Gould and rugby league journalist Michael Chammas on Monday night's edition of Nine's 100% Footy show kept going once the cameras were off. The tense on-air clash saw Gould denying accusations that he misled the public about signing young playmaker Lachlan Galvin. Galvin is expected to join Canterbury after the Tigers agreed to give the 19-year-old an early release from his contract. The bombshell development occurred just a couple of weeks after Gould said his club had no intention of chasing Galvin. Gould has since stated that 'the goalposts shifted last week', referring to the Tigers backflipping on their earlier stance that they wouldn't release Galvin until his contract expired at the end of next season. 'How did I mislead you on Lachlan Galvin?' Gould asked Chammas. 'I never said I wasn't interested. What I said was we're on a different course, he's not in our plans because he wasn't off contract until 2027. 'You're summising that because it's happened. You want that to be the truth. You want that to be the truth, that's the scenario you want to create. I didn't see it happening that way at all, not at all. 'You go back and review everything I've said about Lachlan Galvin and what transpired and everything I said was 100 per cent the truth at the time.' Gould finished off his tirade by saying: 'I didn't mislead anyone... Mind your words, son.' NRL great Braith Anasta revealed on Tuesday night that the stoush didn't end once they were off-air. 'Gould and Chammas last night, work colleagues, went toe to toe on air, we all saw it. Apparently it went beyond there, off-air,' Anasta said on NRL 360. Reporter James Hooper responded: 'Watching it live, it felt like they were sort of forced into an ad break because it looked like it was starting to get a little bit overly heated and then when it did cut to the ad break, talking to people who were there today, they certainly suggested that Gus wasn't overly happy. 'I think there might have been a couple of expletives, he felt as though his integrity had been questioned. They kept going toe to toe, after it cut to an ad break there were definitely further words exchanged.' Reporter Phil Rothfield also commented on the exchange, saying Gould's reputation has taken a serious hit. 'I reckon he's been seriously damaged credibility wise and his reputation has been severely damaged at Channel 9 over this,' Rothfield said on the Off the Record podcast. 'I think the punters are awake to it and they are the lifeblood of every TV network that provides the ratings. I honestly think he's been badly damaged and people won't cop his bullsh** anymore.' 'Rugby league officials do lie and it's a fact we have to live with but when you are being paid nearly $1 million to sit on a (TV) panel, you are there to inform and say the truth. But this is where Gus gets himself into an awkward situation. As a viewer, he hasn't been upfront with us.' Gould has insisted Galvin's looming arrival won't destabilise the table-topping Bulldogs, after their best start to a season in 23 years. Asked if he was worried that Galvin's arrival could cause animosity from other players if he was to take their spot, Gould was defiant. 'No. None at all. That's the least of my worries,' Gould said on the Nine Network's 100% Footy. 'I don't think anyone denies he is a talent. And you win premierships with talented players. It's my responsibility to get talented players into the club. 'I think it will create great competition, that's what it'll create if he turns up.

‘Felt his integrity was questioned': New details emerge as Gould's stoush with journo continued off-air

It has been revealed the TV stoush between Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould and veteran rugby league journalist Michael Chammas continued off-air on Monday night. Gould was making his regular weekly appearance on '100% Footy' and claimed he did not 'mislead' the public by signing Lachlan Galvin. But he was challenged on the program by Chammas and Gould took particular issue with the Sydney Morning Herald journalist's suggestion that he had misled people. 'Gould and Chammas last night, work colleagues, went toe to toe on air, we all saw it. Apparently it went beyond there, off-air,' Braith Anasta said on NRL 360 on Tuesday night. 'Watching it live, it felt like they were sort of forced into an ad break because it looked like it was starting to get a little bit overly heated and then when it did cut to the ad break, talking to people who were there today, they certainly suggested that Gus wasn't overly happy,' James Hooper responded. 'I think there might have been a couple of expletives, he felt as though his integrity had been questioned. They kept going toe to toe, after it cut to an ad break there were definitely further words exchanged.' Anasta, who has known Gould for more than 25 years, praised Chammas for holding his ground. Watch the heated exchange between Gould and Chammas in the video above 'It's very rare that Gus gets questioned about his actions and his comments and I love the fact that, right or wrong, Chammas didn't back down,' he said. 'He backed himself, he continued to take him on and Gus is an intimidating guy. 'And not only because he's one of the brightest minds in our game but he's one of the most experienced and powerful and intimidating. And Chammas just went for it and didn't take backward step and you've got to respect that. Not many guys have got the you know what to do that and I thought Mick did a good job.' Paul Crawley called on the NRL to better enforce the salary cap with Galvin leaving a huge amount of money on the table at the Tigers to join the Dogs. 'It could be all above board but there are clubs out there who rightfully question how a guy that was offered $1 million a season has now accepted $300,000 less a season,' Crawley said. 'It's a stain on the salary cap that we don't have any transparency when it comes to third parties and contracts. 'The Canberra Raiders offered Leo Thompson $800,000 a season but he's gone (to the Bulldogs) for massive unders and now Lachlan Galvin goes there for massive unders. 'The salary cap is what's supposed to make it a fair and level playing field.' But 2004 Bulldogs premiership winner Anasta, who is now a player agent, offered another perspective. 'I think it says more about the clubs they're leaving than the ones they're going to,' he said. 'I would take $200,000 less to go to a club to win a premiership because apart from having kids it's the best feeling in my life. There is no better feeling. 'When you're a player like Lachlan Galvin who goes into the Bulldogs system for $200,000 or $300,000 less… he's got 15 years in our game, his value is going to go up, he's going to make millions of dollars over that time and he's going to be financially secure. 'There are limited premiership windows at certain clubs at certain times and the Bulldogs are in one right now and if he was my client I'd be pushing him to the Bulldogs. 'I'd say go there, you're going to get developed, you'll become a better player by the time you leave, your value is going to go up every year and you've got a chance of winning a premiership. 'Take $200,000 less now for longevity and your value in the game, that's a smart decision.'

Bombshell twist after journalist axed from Channel 9 NRL show

New details have emerged in the wake of the Channel 9 storm that erupted last month on the set of 100% Footy. It was revealed in May that journalist Michael Chammas was told not to show up after producers were told Eels star Mitchell Moses did not want the reporter to be there. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. According to the initial report, Moses' manager Isaac Moses told producers he would consider pulling Moses from his appearance on the show if Chammas was not replaced. The network's decision to bow to the demand made by the footballer and his representatives, reportedly left several journalists at Nine furious. Now further details have been uncovered with The Daily Telegraph's Phil Rothfield exposing the full weight of influence the controversial player agent has at the network. Two of Moses' biggest clients are NRL legend Cameron Smith and Today Show star Danika Mason. As Rothfield wrote for The Daily Telegraph: 'the network made the decision to keep Moses onside at the expense of their own journalist'. The move by the network didn't go down well with Rothfield and Andrew Webster torching the network in an edition of their popular Off the record with Buzz and Webby podcast. Webster said the saga was a 'really, really poor look' for Nine. 'It's weak as piss from Channel 9,' Webster, who has previously been employed by the free-to-air network, said. 'There's no way that should be allowed. It's hard for me to talk about because I left the joint last year after many years. I've got a lot of people that I love and respect who are still there and it probably is a good indicator for why I'm no longer working for the joint and the frustration you can get there when you're a journalist trying to do your job. 'Chammas works his guts out. He chases like a greyhound. The only silver lining is that it disproves the theory that he's in Isaac Moses' pocket. Because Moses has speared him from being on the show.' Webster said the NRL should be asking questions about how the incident played out. 'It's not good. It's outrageous,' he said. 'The NRL should step in. They're the host broadcaster. If I'm the NRL I'm going what's this So player managers now decide who appears on football panels? That's bulls***.' Rothfield said: 'Who do they think they are? How dare they. I'm so angry about it and it's got nothing to do with me'. Why is Isaac Moses a controversial figure? Moses was notably one of the agents banned for six months for his role in the Melbourne Storm salary cap saga. He was also sensationally deregistered for breaching his obligations as an agent, in relation to an investigation into the Parramatta Eels in 2021. However, his accreditation was later reinstated after Roosters chairman Nick Politis famously lobbied ARLC chair Peter V'landys to allow him to be a player agent again. But soon after Moses returned, Politis would come to regret his decision as he reportedly felt blindsided by Moses' client Joseph Suaalii's defection to rugby and sensationally declared he would never deal with the agent again. More recently he seemingly was the man behind Lachlan Galvin's messy exit from the Tigers. The player's agent reportedly had no interest in listening to the Tigers' offers and informed the club that he had no faith in Marshall's coaching ability, believing the rookie coach didn't have the tools to develop his client into a star of the game. It wasn't the first time Isaac Moses has ruffled feathers at the joint venture either as he managed James Tedesco, Luke Brooks, Aaron Woods and Mitch Moses when they were all coming off contract all at the same time in 2017. In the end, only Brooks signed a new deal, with the Tigers left licking their wounds after three of their four star players moved to rival clubs and resulted in the club having to go through a rough roster rebuild.

Cameron Smith and Danika Mason detail comes to light after Channel 9 move slammed

New details have emerged about the influence Isaac Moses has at Channel 9 after the controversial NRL agent had journalist Michael Chammas removed from the '100% Footy' panel earlier this month. Chammas was noticeably absent from his regular spot on the Monday night footy program on Nine, and it was all around the fact Mitchell Moses was a guest. The Parramatta halfback is managed by his cousin Isaac, who doesn't see eye-to-eye with Chammas. According to reports, Isaac Moses told Nine bosses that Mitchell would only appear on the program if Chammas wasn't on the panel that night. Chammas later revealed he offered to step away and not appear, after Nine bowed to Moses' demand. Moses is incredibly influential in the NRL world, and manages a stable of the game's best players. But he's also highly controversial, and was previously deregistered by the NRL. The Sydney Roosters famously refuse to negotiate with any player in the Moses stable. But new details have emerged about other people he manages, including non-players. And it goes a long way to explaining why Nine would have bowed to his demands to have Chammas removed. The revealed over the weekend that Moses also manages retired Melbourne Storm champion Cameron Smith, who is also regularly on the '100% Footy' panel. And Nine presenter Danika Mason is also in the Moses stable as he helps manage her media career. Phil Rothfield wrote on Saturday that it's a "particularly awkward situation for Mason, because she, like everyone else in rugby league, rates Chammas so highly." RELATED: NRL world saddened over new revelation about Steve Mortimer Bulldogs State of Origin rep facing the axe once Galvin arrives Speaking on Triple M radio after being kicked off the '100% Footy' panel, Chammas revealed he used to be close with Moses but the pair haven't spoken for the last eight years. Chammas said he refused to be a "mouth piece" for Moses, and the agent cut him off as a result. 'He does it with clubs and he just tries to influence his power and control,' Chammas said. 'He's got his people in the media and if you're not his mouthpiece, it's a one-way street. If you don't you get iced out.' Speaking on the 'Off the record with Buzz and Webby' podcast, Rothfield and fellow journalist Andrew Webster torched Channel 9 for removing Chammas. 'It's weak as piss from Channel 9,' said Webster, who was formerly employed by the network. 'There's no way that should be allowed. It's hard for me to talk about because I left the joint last year after many years. I've got a lot of people that I love and respect who are still there and it probably is a good indicator for why I'm no longer working for the joint, and the frustration you can get there when you're a journalist trying to do your job. 'Chammas works his guts out. He chases like a greyhound. The only silver lining is that it disproves the theory that he's in Isaac Moses' pocket. Because Moses has speared him from being on the show.' Webster said the NRL should get involved, while Rothfield added: 'Who do they think they are? How dare they. I'm so angry about it and it's got nothing to do with me'.

NSW Blues star Mitchell Moses is hilariously stitched up after recent journalist ban incident involving his notorious player agent uncle

NSW Blues star Mitchell Moses was no doubt excited to be in Origin camp this week ahead of the series opener on May 28 - but close friend Aaron Woods left him red-faced during an interview. Woods - who himself chalked up 14 appearances for NSW between 2013 and 2017 - has turned his attention to the media after retiring from the NRL last year. Along with fellow NRL star Beau Ryan, the prop made his way to the Blues media day in Sydney - and he had Moses in his sights. Woods boldly took on the persona of a journalist - and chaos followed. 'Mitch, it's Aaron Woods from Triple M,' he began when interviewing his former Wests Tigers teammate. 'I've just got off the phone with (player agent) Isaac Moses and he said you can't do anymore print (interviews). Moses responded with a laugh before stating he 'agreed' with the request - but Woods wasn't done yet. He quipped that 'Mick Chammas is on his way down', a reference to the recent fall out between Isaac Moses and the Sydney Morning Herald sports reporter. Woods cheekily referenced a recent demand from player agent Isaac Moses (pictured) involving SMH sports reporter Michael Chammas ahead of a rugby league show on Channel 9 Leading player agent Moses and Chammas don't see eye to eye - and Moses reportedly demanded ahead of a recent 100% Footy show on Channel 9 that the respected scribe not feature on the panel. The influential Moses got his wish, with Chammas replaced by colleague Danny Weidler ahead of Mitchell Moses appearing on the show as a guest. It sparked widespread anger among viewers, media professionals and former players, with many believing it highlights the growing influence of player managers within the code. Sportsbet duo Cooper Johns and Hammy Goodman also referenced the tension between Isaac Moses and Chammas - but the Blues five-eighth - who is the player agent's nephew - was all smiles following the jibe. Meanwhile, NSW Blues fullback Dylan Edwards has backed Moses to thrive in his switch to the left edge where he will play against Queensland. 'It's a little bit of a challenge with everyone coming from different clubs and systems but that's our focus at the moment, our defence,' he said. 'We're putting a fair bit of work and bit of video on that. Luckily there's a lot of boys who were here last year too so we've got a bit of familiarity around that.
