Brawl erupts at Coney Island beach as NYC sizzles, multiple arrested: NYPD
Print Close By Michael Dorgan Published June 24, 2025 As the mercury soared in the Big Apple on Monday, so too did the fists — as tensions between youths boiled over at a popular beach spot culminating in a wild brawl. The pandemonium erupted at Coney Island Beach on the sand at around 6:30 p.m. when a fight broke out leading to multiple people being taken into custody, police told Fox News Digital. The New York Post, citing law enforcement sources and video taken from the scene, said at least 16 youths were arrested as hundreds of youths had gathered amid the city's scorching heatwave. Video shows the chaos quickly escalating to the historic Riegelmann Boardwalk and the streets, prompting a heavy police response. HUNDREDS OF TEENAGERS TRANSFORM PEACEFUL BEACH INTO CHAOS AS POLICE FORCED TO BREAK UP FIGHTS Several youths were seen being taken away in handcuffs. In one tense moment, officers were seen handcuffing a suspect as he lay on the sand surrounded by onlookers filming with their phones. In another, a suspect was tackled to the pavement near a bench as a swarm of police closed in around him. The Post reported that a suspect was tasered on his calves and on the back of his knees while police were trying to detain him. JERSEY SHORE BOARDWALK MAYHEM PUTS BLUE STATE'S 'SOFT' CRIME APPROACH UNDER MICROSCOPE Police said there were no serious injuries and it's unclear what sparked the unruly incident. The NYPD told Fox News Digital the police response came after it received several 911 calls of a disorderly group on the beach in the vicinity of Coney Island Avenue and 15th Street. After emotions had eased, police could be seen forming a human barricade on the sand to move the large group. New York, like many other cities, witnesses heat not seen in a decade, tying its record of 96 degrees set back in 1888, according to Fox Weather. Monday's incident comes after police were forced to disperse a group of around 500 teenagers on Jones Beach in New York City earlier this month, where multiple brawls broke out. Jones Beach is about 30 miles away from Coney Island Beach. Meanwhile, a series of brawls and stabbings occurred over Memorial Day weekend at a popular Jersey shore boardwalk, leading to dozens of arrests. Print Close URL

NASA looking for ways to destroy asteroid that could strike Earth, kill city
The chances of a giant space rock striking the Earth have decreased, but NASA and other space agencies are still devising a plan to obliterate it. Asteroid 2024 YR4, a recently discovered planetoid, now has a 1.5% probability of making impact with Earth, according to NASA. Even though the new probability is down from the previously reported 2.6%, and above the initial 1% chance in late January, international agencies are plotting a way to destroy the terrestrial chunk, if need be. Stadium-sized Asteroid Deemed 'Potentially Hazardous' By Nasa Expected To Move 'Relatively Close' To Earth "No one is panicking, but it [is] definitely what we're talking about in the hallways of NASA," a project manager at the Kennedy Space Center told the New York Post. "We know we have enough time to act, but now's the time to start planning. You can't half-a-- this at the last minute." As wide as the Statue of Liberty is tall, the asteroid is estimated to be between 130 and 300 feet in width. Read On The Fox News App Stadium-sized Asteroid Deemed 'Potentially Hazardous' By Nasa, Is Expected To Move 'Relatively Close' To Earth If it were to improbably strike Earth in December 2032, the estimated doomsday, about 110 million Earthlings would be at risk. The chunk would come in hot at roughly 38,000 mph, according to scientists. It would likely plummet into the eastern Pacific Ocean, northern South America, the Atlantic Ocean, Africa, the Arabian Sea or South Asia. Newly Discovered Asteroid Turns Out To Be Tesla Roadster Launched Into Space The likelihood of a strike will fluctuate as astronomers learn more about the asteroid's path around the sun, and the probability may eventually drop to zero. NASA and the European Space Agency's Webb Space Telescope will observe this near-Earth asteroid in March before the object disappears from view. It will come back into view in 2028. While the asteroid is only classified as a Level 3 out of 10 on an asteroid hazard scale, it remains capable of "localized destruction." The alert level is the second highest recorded since 2004 when the asteroid Apophis reached Level 4, according to previous reporting. Researchers later found that Apophis would safely pass Earth in 2029.
