Cambourne men's group restore replica of ancient Bourn windmill
An 80-year-old replica of one of the oldest surviving windmills in the UK has been restored by a community group that supports men's mental model of Bourn Windmill, near Cambourne, Cambridgeshire, was created by Michael Dunn in his workshop in Bristol in the 1940s, but had fallen into disrepair. Cambourne Men's Shed stripped paint, repaired sails, replaced damaged parts and repainted the miniature building, as part of the "challenging but enjoyable project".The fully working model will go on display alongside the original during the windmill's open days in the summer. Greg Thompson, who runs Cambourne Men's Shed, said "restoration of the replica has been a challenging but enjoyable project and many different Shedders have contributed over the past months after work began in October 2024".The organisation is part of a UK network "providing inclusive, welcoming spaces where men can connect and contribute to local causes while supporting their own wellbeing", he added. Mr Dunn was a lifelong windmill enthusiast, who photographed mills across the UK from the 1930s to 1970s, leaving behind a vast archive now held by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings."We are very pleased that it has been accepted as part of the museum and are delighted that it has now been restored by the local Men's Shed," his daughter Jennifer said. Bourn Windmill, a Grade I listed ancient monument, is an open trestle post mill which dates back about 500 years and is owned by local charity Cambridge Past, Present & manager Allan Scott Davies said the "model is more than just a charming garden feature, it tells a story of craftsmanship, family legacy, and community spirit". Program gives Ohioans a second chance and keeps roads clean
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — When driving on the highway, you may see a few pieces of trash. You also might see groups of people outside collecting it, keeping the roads safe and clean. 'It gives me responsibility,' team lead driver for Interstate Business Solutions Michael Dunn said. 'Now I'm a responsible man.' Interstate Business Solutions (IBS) contracts with the Ohio Department of Transportation to collect litter from highways. While cleaning the roadways, IBS also gives Ohioans who need one a second chance. Dunn, who said he has been in trouble previously, said working at IBS has put him on a good path. 'They helped me in life, I'm trouble-free. I work every day,' he said. 'It keeps me out of trouble. And once I'm done, I'm home, I'm in the bed at a certain time.' Data Desk: Ohio has one of the lowest average urban driving speeds in country IBS alone collected 122,290 bags of trash from January 2024 to mid-March 2025. That equates to nearly 2 million pounds, IBS supervisor Garey McCartney said. 'We take pride in being able to clean it up, make it safer, make it look nicer,' McCartney said. McCartney has been a supervisor with IBS for nearly two years. He said the job means a lot to some of the team members. 'It gives them an opportunity to invest back in the community because most guys work in the market where they're from,' he said. IBS has seven markets across Ohio where they work to keep certain stretches of the roads clean. 'That is tires, bottles, anything that's trash related, we take care of it,' Dunn said. Tires and bottles only scratch the surface; Dunn said they find IDs, credit cards, pairs of skis, gardening tools and so much more. McCartney said one story sticks out to him, when the team thought they saw one or two tires. Discover Ohio's three best staycation spots for summer trips 'And low and behold there were 31 tires in that one spot,' he said. 'So, that's a lot. And that's just one little activity in the day. So, we don't understand a lot of the times how much is really out there.' Dunn said he hopes to see the program keep growing. 'My advice to anyone that's been in trouble, they ought to try it out. I mean its just trash, we just pick up trash,' Dunn said. 'If you keep that pace, and keep moving, you'll be alright.' McCartney said he likes to tell people to imagine if no one was out there cleaning things up, just how much garbage there would be on the side of the road. What IBS does is only the beginning. ODOT has several other contractors who, according to a spokesperson, collected 644,139 bags in 2024, including IBS' efforts. ODOT said they spent about $10 million every year to keep roads clean. Steam train makes special stop for rail volunteer
A heritage steam train has made a special stop to thank a volunteer who has been working on the railway for 16 years. Michael Dunn, from Northallerton, has been in hospital for five weeks as he underwent chemotherapy for cancer of the oesophagus. Mr Dunn said he felt emotional when he found out the Railway Touring Company's locomotive would be making the unscheduled stop at Northallerton Station. He said: "This has kept me going for the last few weeks because it's very special. No steam engine would ever be able to stop there normally. It's quite emotional, to say the least." The Railway Touring Company offers trips around the UK on five locomotives called The Great Britain. The service stopped in Northallerton at about 10:40 BST on Saturday. Mr Dunn said it was especially exciting because the locomotive making the journey was a Tornado, an A1 class that was built in Darlington. "It's on its last part going back down to London via Norwich," he said. "The total mileage will be just over 2,000 miles, with 200 passengers. "It is unique. It's a five-minute stop and everybody can wave their whistles from the train." Mr Dunn said his passion for trains began as a young boy, and having been born and bred in Northallerton, he was excited to see the service stop in his home town. "It's a passion that comes from childhood, but people don't realise how passionate people across the country are, not just rail enthusiasts. "The Great Britain started 17 years ago. "It normally starts in London at Victoria or King's Cross and from there it goes to various points within our Great Britain." Mr Dunn's niece, Laura McManners, said the nurses at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where Mr Dunn was treated, had made special arrangements to allow him to get to Northallerton on Saturday morning. She said Mr Dunn had waved to all the passengers from the platform and been able to say thank you to train staff. The service began at London Victoria on 26 April before making its way to Inverness. The Northallerton stop was made on the train's journey back to London, where it will terminate on Monday. Bitnomial Announces the Launch of First Ever CFTC-Regulated XRP Futures in the US and Bitnomial Exchange has Voluntary Dismissed its Lawsuit Against the US SEC.
CHICAGO, March 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Bitnomial, Inc. ("Bitnomial"), with the only CFTC-regulated exchange, Bitnomial Exchange, LLC, offering physically settled digital asset derivatives, is excited to announce the launch of XRP US Dollar Myra ("XRUY") Futures. This marks the first-ever CFTC-regulated XRP futures product in the United States, providing traders with a compliant, transparent, and capital-efficient way to gain exposure to XRP. Bitnomial is also pleased to announce that yesterday, Bitnomial Exchange, LLC filed a notice of voluntary dismissal of its case against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"). In October 2024, Bitnomial Exchange, LLC filed a lawsuit against the SEC centered on whether Bitnomial's XRP futures are a security futures contract. Bitnomial welcomes the SEC's evolving policies on crypto, which have provided greater clarity on the securities status of XRP. We believe regulatory certainty is essential for fostering innovation and growth in the digital asset space. Bitnomial's physically settled futures ensure contracts are delivered in actual XRP upon settlement, distinguishing them from cash-settled alternatives that do not have direct interaction with the underlying asset. This structure enhances market integrity and strengthens price discovery by tying derivatives trading directly to XRP's supply and demand dynamics. "Bitnomial is committed to building regulated market infrastructure that supports real asset ownership in digital asset markets," said Luke Hoersten, CEO of Bitnomial. "Physically settled futures ensure that every contract is backed by actual XRP, reinforcing true price discovery and market integrity. Unlike cash-settled alternatives, which are akin to financial bets, physically delivered contracts drive actual demand for the underlying asset, providing traders with a more transparent and capital-efficient way to engage with XRP. As the first CFTC-regulated XRP futures in the U.S., this product represents a major step in expanding regulated digital asset markets." "With the addition of XRP futures, institutional and retail traders can now access a broader range of CFTC-regulated crypto derivatives," added Michael Dunn, President of Bitnomial Exchange, LLC. "This further solidifies Bitnomial's position as the leading venue for U.S.-domiciled, fully compliant crypto derivatives trading." Over the past two weeks, Bitnomial has expanded its offerings to include physically settled futures on Solana, Avalanche, Chainlink, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ethereum, Polkadot, Hedera, and now XRP. Current clients can access all Bitnomial Exchange products through their existing FCM connections, and prospective clients can by onboarding with one of Bitnomial's FCM partners.
