The Arc helps erase the stigma of hiring someone with a developmental disability
At Arc Quad Cities Area, the organization's mission is clear.
'We empower individuals with disabilities to believe in their own unique abilities to achieve their full potential,' said Michael Glanz, president and CEO of Arc Quad Cities Area.
March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. According to the CDC, one in six children in the United States has a developmental disability.
'We're very excited to highlight what people with disabilities can do during March and all year round,' Glanz said.
Between volunteer opportunities, various day programs, and community employment services, Arc Quad Cities Area finds a spot for everyone.
'People with disabilities exist through all walks of life, and we continue to try and find ways to showcase their talents,' Glanz said. 'It's great to share with the world what people with disabilities can do and show that there is no stigma around them, or surrounding their disabilities, but show really what everybody can do, and what they can be proud of.
Arc Quad Cities Area hopes to show that a person's disability cannot stop their ability from making an impact in the community.
'It's not just Arc Quad Cities Area doing that work, but we are part of a whole disability awareness coalition that has all sorts of agencies throughout the Quad Cities Area,' Glanz said. 'All (the agencies have) the same mission to support people with disabilities.'
