Beloved New Orleans Restaurant Justine Closing in May

Once a hotbed for tourism, New Orleans still hasn't recovered from the COVID pandemic. Chef Michael Gulotta, who closed two of his three restaurants in New Orleans, admitted the loss of tourism in the city is hurting the service industry. 'I just think New Orleans... we have to... we've gotten to the point where we're a feast or famine city based on our tourism,' he told Fox 8 Live. 'And we're no longer... we have lots of people that are leaving... It's just... It's difficult to say, but you see it in all the reports... they say that people are leaving New Orleans.' His two restaurant closures weren't the only losses the city has seen so far this year. Beloved French-inspired brasserie Justine announced it will be closing its doors on the Sunday before Memorial Day. "With heavy hearts, we share that Justine will close its doors on Sunday, May 25. We would like to thank the community for making Justine's tenure on Chartres Street nothing short of exceptional," owners Mia and Justin Devillier revealed in a message on social media. From lively jazz brunches and Friday Before Mardi Gras lunches, to celebratory dinners, late night revelry, and celebrations full of love, thank you for allowing us to play a small role in some of your biggest moments," the statement continued. "Those memories will keep the spirit of Justine alive far beyond our final day of service. We welcome friends and neighbors to join us in bidding the restaurant adieu over the next two weeks in true New Orleans fashion: with playful cocktails, vibrant atmosphere, and iconic French cuisine. Reservations can be made on OpenTable, and walk-ins are always welcome." Opened in early 2020, Justine quickly earned a loyal following with its Parisian décor before becoming the latest post-pandemic restaurant casualty.
