Rangers deal Ornelas to Braves
The Texas Rangers have traded utility guy Jonathan Ornelas to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations, it was announced today. Ornelas had been designated for assignment to make room for Michael Helman, who was claimed off waivers by the Rangers. Ornelas was the Rangers' third round pick in 2018. All four of the Rangers' first four picks — Cole Winn, Owen White, Ornelas and Mason Englert — have made the bigs, but have been fringe guys, with all but Winn having been designated for assignment at least once.

Pirates claim position player from division rival
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed infielder/outfielder Michael Helman off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. In a corresponding roster move, infielder Enmanuel Valdez was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Helman has spent the entire 2025 season at Triple-a Memphis. This season in the minor leagues, he is batting .185 with one home run, four doubles and five RBI. The 28-year old appeared in nine games with the Minnesota Twins in 2024. In ten MLB plate appearances in 2024, he tallied a pair of doubles for the Twins. The Cardinals purchased him from the Twins back on Feb. 6. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
