Marvel's MCU 'X-Men' May Have Found Its Director
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gradually steering towards a new X-Men adaptation. Marvel Studios has been having fun with their acquisition of the property via Disney's buyout of 20th Century Fox, and after cameos in films like The Marvels and the more direct Deadpool & Wolverine , we're finally headed towards some bigger X-Men appearances. Now a director for the studio's X-Men reboot might've finally been chosen. The MCU's X-Men movie certainly has a lot of pressure going for it. After all, it's intended to introduce a new era for the X-Men property, one that can continue to expand with new projects like other MCU franchises. Marvel Studios has an interesting director allegedly in mind to tackle this job, however, and he's already taken on one of the studio's other more ambitious projects. According to Deadline, the studio has entered 'early talks' with this potential director. While they couldn't reveal much about these conversations, they were able to share the following: 'Following the successful launch of Thunderbolts* , director Jake Schreier might already have his sights set on the next big Marvel Studios project, as sources tell Deadline he is in early talks to direct the studio's new X-Men movie.' Schreier is said to be at the top of the studio's list for directors following a recent meeting. Along with the success of Thunderbolts , however, that's not much of a surprise. The studio already has a writer attached to pen the script – Michael Lesslie – while Kevin Feige will produce the project. Hopefully we'll have more details regarding this potential deal and more about the X-Men reboot in the near future. Several characters from Fox's efforts are expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday , and many fans expect that Avengers: Secret Wars will further pave the way for the MCU's own X-Men team. Of course, what this new roster looks like remains to be seen. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more X-Men news and any other MCU updates as we have them. In the meantime, fans will be able to see the return of Fox's X-Men next year in Avengers: Doomsday .

Neve Campbell Rumored to Play Polaris in X-MEN Movie or X-MEN '97 — GeekTyrant
It looks like Neve Campbell might be joining one of two X-Men projects in development at Marvel Studios. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the Scream icon has reportedly been cast as Polaris in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie. But, in another report from CBM, Campbell is said to be providing the voice of Polaris in Season 2 of X-Men '97 . It seems like this might be more likely, but regardless, nothing has been made official. Campbell, of course, is best known for her role as Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise. She's reprising her role in Scream 7 , which is currently set for a February 2026 release. As for the character Polaris, she debuted in X-Men #49 back in 1968. Created by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko, she's the daughter of Magneto and has magnetic powers similar to her father's. Fans last saw a version of the character in Fox's The Gifted , a Marvel series that ran for two seasons, and the character was played by Emma Dumont. But, this new incarnation would mark Polaris's debut in the MCU timeline. The X-Men film is being written by Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier reportedly in early talks to helm the project. It's expected to arrive sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars , though Marvel hasn't revealed a release window. As for X-Men '97, Season 2 is still in development and it's expected to be released at some point in 2026. Until something is made official, this casting remains in rumor territory, but would you be into seeing Neve Campbell join the MCU as Polaris?

Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier in talks to direct Marvel's X-Men movie
Although the X-Men haven't had their own movie since Dark Phoenix in 2019, Marvel Studios has reportedly decided on the director it wants to bring the mutant heroes back to the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is now in negotiations with Marvel to direct the X-Men reboot movie. Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes screenwriter Michael Lesslie is writing the script for that film, which is expected to be a clean break from the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies. Thunderbolts has gotten strong critical reviews, and good word of mouth from audiences since its release on May 2. Marvel is presumably happy with that response or else the studio wouldn't be fast-tracking Schreier for such a high-profile follow up movie. Recommended Videos The first X-Men film was released in 2000 and it became an unexpected hit that made Hugh Jackman a star and helped usher in the age of superhero movies. Following the 2019 sale of Fox's entertainment assets to Disney, the rights to all of the X-Men-related characters reverted to Marvel Studios and reunited almost all of the Marvel rights under one roof except for the Spider-Man characters that remain held by Sony. Last year's Deadpool & Wolverine was the first live-action Marvel Studios film to feature X-Men-related characters at the forefront, although X-Men characters made cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels. Marvel also successfully launched the X-Men '97 cartoon last year, which is a sequel to the classic X-Men: The Animated Series. Curiously, a recent report by THR indicated that Ryan Reynolds is exploring a Deadpool and X-Men team-up movie, which is presumably separate from this project. Like Deadpool & Wolverine, that potential film would likely take place outside of the primary MCU timeline. Additionally, Avengers: Doomsday is slated to feature several actors from the original X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. For now, there's no word as to whether Jackman will join them as Wolverine in the film when it opens in theaters on May 1, 2026.

X-Men MCU Movie Finds Beloved Director
Jake Schreier is being eyed to direct Marvel Studios' forthcoming movie. Marvel is currently working on a new X-Men movie that is being written by Michael Lesslie. The film does not have a release date at this time, but it is expected to arrive after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Per Deadline, Schreier is now in 'early talks' to helm the X-Men movie for Marvel Studios. The choice makes sense, as Schreier recently directed Thunderbolts* for Marvel Studios. That movie has received positive reviews from fans and critics alike, while it has also grossed $172.9 million at the global box office so far. 'It is unknown where things stand in the dealmaking process, but insiders say that, following a meeting this past week, Schreier looks to be the top choice to take on one of the studio's most anticipated projects,' Deadline's article notes. Before Thunderbolts*, Schreier made 2012's Robot & Frank and 2015's Paper Towns. He has also worked on television shows such as Lodge 49, Dave, Brand New Cherry Flavor, Minx, Beef, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. 'Even before the reactions began to come out about how impressive Thunderbolts* was, studios already were trying to get in business with the director. But sources say in recent days he has begun turning down jobs, as all signs were pointing to him landing one of the coveted directing openings in town,' Deadline's article, which also mentions that Schreier is a big fan of the X-Men comics, further reads. Plot details for the X-Men movie remain under wraps at this time. While it's likely that the film will feature a brand-new cast, there has been no confirmation regarding whether any of the actors who previously starred in X-Men films — many of whom are returning for Avengers: Doomsday, such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen — will be in the MCU film. Thunderbolts*, meanwhile, is currently playing in United States theaters. Originally reported by Brandon Schreur at SuperHeroHype. ‘Thunderbolts*' Director Eyed For Marvel's ‘X-Men' Film
It took decades, a corporate acquisition, and an R-rated team-up between Deadpool and Wolverine, but Marvel's mutants are finally clawing their way into the MCU. With production underway on Avengers: Doomsday and the Multiverse Saga hurtling toward its climax, Marvel Studios appears ready to lay the foundation for its next major chapter centred around the X-Men. According to Deadline, Jake Schreier, fresh off directing Thunderbolts* , is being lined up to helm Marvel's long-anticipated X-Men reboot. No official announcement has been made about the film, but sources say Schreier met with Marvel last week about the project, which is being written by Michael Lesslie. Known for his work on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Assassin's Creed , Lesslie is expected to script the first MCU iteration of the beloved mutant team. Schreier's name has gained significant momentum following the early praise for Thunderbolts* (also billed as The New Avengers ) which has been received as a creative win for the studio's pivot toward smaller, more focused storytelling. It's a move reminiscent of past MCU strategies, like the Russos' leap from Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Avengers: Infinity War , or Destin Daniel Cretton's jump from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to Spider-Man: Brand New Day . While Marvel Studios hasn't committed to a specific timeline for the X-Men's mainline debut, the groundwork is already in motion. The multiverse has allowed the studio to honor past iterations, bringing in legacy characters such as Patrick Stewart's Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , Kelsey Grammer's Beast in The Marvels , and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine . Avengers: Doomsday will deepen that connection, with actors from Fox's X-Men era, including Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and James Marsden, joining the battle. What sets the X-Men apart within Marvel's world is the allegorical weight they carry. Their stories have always reflected real-world social struggles: identity, discrimination, the search for belonging. Schreier's ability to find emotional clarity in ensemble storytelling could help ensure these themes land with both longtime fans and newcomers. His recent Marvel debut showcased his ability to elevate a team storyline while maintaining individual arcs, something essential to bringing the mutant metaphor to life. And while a full X-Men reboot may still be a couple of years out, the road to Xavier's School is finally open, and all signs point to Schreier leading the class in 2027.
