'Death Stranding' Anime In The Works From Hideo Kojima
It looks like Hideo Kojima is keeping busy with his Death Stranding franchise, as apart from a sequel and a live-action A24 film, the eccentric director has confirmed that an anime adaptation of the walking simulator is also in the works. Speaking to Vogue Japan, Kojima spoke on the upcoming live-action flick, a project in collaboration with A24 that recently welcomed A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski. In his closing remarks, he casually confirmed the existence of a Death Stranding anime adaptation that is currently in development. 'When it comes to film adaptations of games, there have been recent films like The Last of Us that keep the plot of the original intact, and films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie that are more like a service to game fans. Each of these works has its own merits, but as a film lover, I want to pursue expression as a film.' Kojima said in a translated transcript by VGC, 'I am aiming to make Death Stranding in a way that can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.' Although this was just a brief confirmation, and no further details on the anime project's production studio were confirmed, it would be interesting to see how Kojima would adapt the Death Stranding universe into the anime space. Admittedly, the weird and sometimes confusing nature of the game's plot makes it quite the perfect fit for an anime, opening up the opportunity to expand upon its lore the same way Studio Trigger adapted CD Projekt's hit RPG with 2022's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners . On the gaming front, fans can look forward to the continuation of the franchise relatively soon, as the much-anticipated sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach , is due out on 26 June 2025, exclusively on the PS5. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . He has made it his life-long mission to play every single major game release – lest his wallet dies trying. Death Stranding Hideo Kojima Kojima Productions

A Death Stranding anime is in the works
How much Death Stranding are you willing to fire into your eyes? The game's sequel arrives in just a few weeks, A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is leading up a live-action film adaptation, and now Hideo Kojima has confirmed that an anime is in production. Kojima teased the adaptation while discussing the more concrete live-action project in an interview with Vogue Japan . As picked up by VGC , the Metal Gear creator was talking about his cross-media ambitions for the Death Stranding , and comparing the planned film to other successful video game adaptations from recent years. "When it comes to adapting games into visual media, there are works like The Last of Us , which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game," Kojima said, according to VGC 's translation. "While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation." Kojima didn't offer any more information, so we don't know how far along the anime project is, who is making it, when we can actually expect it to come out, or whether it will tie in with the upcoming live-action movie. In the meantime, Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges will return in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach , which is coming to PS5 on June 22. Kojima Productions dropped its second trailer for the game in March, which clocked in at 10 minutes and gave us a closer look at what we'll be getting up to in the sequel. (Spoiler alert: lots more walking.)

Norman Reedus Wants Star in A24's DEATH STRANDING Movie: 'If It Was an Option, Yeah, For Sure' — GeekTyrant
By now, most fans know that Death Stranding is expanding outside of video games and it getting a feature film adaptation. Hideo Kojima's trippy post-apocalyptic universe is heading to the big screen with a film adaptation being developed by A24. But, if you're wondering whether Norman Reedus is coming along for the ride… well, he's just as curious as the rest of us. Reedus told IGN when asked if he'd reprise his role as Sam Porter Bridges: 'If it was an option, yeah, for sure. I don't know what's happening with it, right? It's so [production] right now. But yeah, yeah, of course!' Reedus has become the face of Death Stranding since the game's original release in 2019. The role of Sam, a weary but determined courier reconnecting the remnants of humanity in a fractured America, has become one of his most iconic performances outside The Walking Dead . He's returning as Sam for Death Stranding 2 , which drops this June, but when it comes to the movie, even he's still waiting for his briefing. The Death Stranding film is being helmed by A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski, with Kojima deeply involved in the process. Kojima has admitted that adapting Death Stranding into a two-hour movie is no small feat. He said: 'It's easier to adapt it into a TV series, like The Last of Us. It's quite difficult to adapt a 50-60 hour game like Death Stranding into a 2-3 hour movie.' And yet, Kojima remains optimistic. He's said the movie won't be a direct adaptation, but something stranger and more cinematic. 'There are a lot of 'game adaptation films' out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema.' In true Kojima fashion, he's already thinking beyond the script. 'We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born. A24's nnovative approach aligns with what Kojima Productions has been building for years. Kojima says he wants the movie to feel 'indie and artistic – something that can win awards at film festivals like Cannes, Venice or Sundance.' That vision may surprise those expecting a blockbuster-style adaptation, but it fits perfectly with Death Stranding's surreal, genre-blending tone. It also speaks to the broader shift in video game adaptations. 'In the past, film adaptations of video games always failed… But in the last 4-5 years, people who understand games have taken on the task of adapting it into a film or drama. Several hits have been made, like [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. That's the trend these days.' So while the Death Stranding movie is still in its early stages, we know that Reedus is in if they want him. And with A24 and Kojima at the helm, this could be one of the most ambitious video game movies yet. It seems like it would be a stupid choice not to cast Reedus in the movie, but we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

The Death Stranding movie now has a writer and director
Movies based on video games have become a pretty big deal in recent years. Just look at those box office returns for A Minecraft Movie for proof of that. This means that more films are coming down the pike, including a motion picture based on Hideo Kojima's delivery simulator Death Stranding. We first learned this was coming back in 2022, but now there's a writer and director attached to the project. The production company A24, which is helping to finance the film, just announced that it will be written and directed by Michael Sarnoski. He isn't a household name, but he did co-write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One. He also co-wrote and directed that delightfully weird Nicolas Cage romp Pig. A24 says that the movie will explore the "catastrophic series of events that blurred the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead," thus creating the fragmented society of the game. There's no casting information yet, but one would hope that Norman Reedus would be involved in some capacity. A cameo from Conan O'Brien also wouldn't hurt. Kojima Productions is involved with the movie. There's no release date yet, as filming hasn't even started. This wasn't the only Death Stranding news to drop recently. The video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26, which will be accompanied by a world-wide concert tour and, inexplicably, a luxury watch.
