Bears whack Sycamores to claim 7th MVC series

SPRINGFIELD–The best team in the Missouri Valley Conference continued adding to its success, on Saturday, as the Missouri State baseball team hammered Indiana State, 10-3, to claim its 7th league series. Freshman pitcher, Michael Yusypchuk, picked up his first win six outings. Yusypchuk tossed five innings, and only allowed two runs, while striking out four Sycamores. At the plate, the Bears bashed three home runs–two of them were back-to-back–Tyler Epstein and Curry Southerland left the yard in the second inning, as part of a 6-run frame that gave Missouri State a comfortable 6-0 cushion. Caden Bogenpohl swatted the team's final homer of the game in the home-half of the 5th inning. Bogenpohl's 10th of the year was also his 30th career blast. The sophomore centerfielder is 5th Bears player to hit 10 or more home runs this spring. The Bears will celebrate Mother's Day and Senior Day on Sunday in the series finale at Hammons Field at 1 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Bears snap skid with ninth inning Zack attack

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears were back at Hammons Field Friday night. And Joey Hawkins crew was looking to get back in the win column. MoState has lost its last two games. In our Bear Nation update, Missouri State opened a Valley weekend series against Valparaiso. And the Bears had ace Michael Yusypchuk on the mound. And the freshman strikes out Connor Giusti swinging to end the first. MoState would get on the board in the third, the Valley's player of the week Nick Rodriguez takes this pitch over the fence in right, off the Mercy sign a two run shot and it's 2-0 Bears. But Valpo would get to Yusypchuk in the fifth, two on for Giusti and tee's off, deep to left and gone, a three run homer that made it 3-2 Beacons. Missouri State battled back and won on a Zack Stewart bottom of the ninth homer to right, Bears snap that losing skid, winning 5-4. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. MoState's Yusypchuk throws gem

I'm Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Missouri State baseball is playing a road series at Southern Illinois. The series was delayed because of rain and cold. The Bears and Salukis are playing a double header Monday. In our Bear Nation update. But in Sunday's single game, Missouri State pitcher Michael Yusypchuk threw a gem. The freshman from Edmonton, Canada threw a seven inning complete game. The right hander scattered four hits over the seven innings and gave up only one run in the Bears 12-1 victory. For Yusypchuk, it's his second complete game in back to back starts. That hasn't happened since 2012 when Pierce Johnson pulled that trick. Johnson is pitching for the Atlanta Braves now. Missouri State and Southern Illinois are fighting for first place in the Valley. We'll have highlights on the news. For more sports watch Ozarks First news at nine and ten. I'll see you then.
