(AP Photo/Gregorio Borgia) BOLOGNA, Italy (AP) — Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano's contract was extended by a year through 2027 after he led the squad to the Italian Cup title. 'We are really happy to prolong our relationship with Vincenzo Italiano,' Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci said on Thursday. 'As we previously stated on a number of occasions, this has always been our intention and we are ready to take on the challenges of next season together.' Advertisement In Italiano's first season at Bologna, he directed the club to a victory over AC Milan in the Cup final for the central Italian team's first major trophy in 51 years. 'I am happy to continue on this journey: we have a lot of exciting competitions to take part in and objectives still to achieve together,' Italiano said. Bologna finished ninth in Serie A but qualified for the Europa League because of the Cup title. Italiano had been linked with a possible move to AC Milan but the contract extension includes a salary increase to 3 million euros ($3.4 million) per season, plus bonuses, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported. Italiano previously coached Fiorentina for three seasons, twice finishing runner-up in the Conference League and also reaching an Italian Cup final. ___ AP soccer:

(Michele Nucci/LaPresse via AP) ROME (AP) — Genoa won at Bologna 3-1 with two goals from 18-year-old Lorenzo Venturino in the final round of Serie A on Saturday. The defeat still didn't prevent Bologna fans from celebrating another strong season, which included an Italian Cup trophy and a Europa League berth. Advertisement Bologna was left in eighth place while Genoa was 13th. Vitinha put Genoa ahead early and Venturino made the most of his first start with two first-half goals, the first of which included some fancy dribbling past several defenders. Riccardo Orsolini pulled one back for Bologna in the second half. Later, AC Milan was to finish a disappointing season against last-placed Monza. Thousands of Milan supporters protested outside the club headquarters earlier after the Rossoneri failed to qualify for Europe and were beaten by Bologna in the cup final. ___ AP soccer:

(Michele Nucci/LaPresse via AP) ROME (AP) — Inter Milan has a history of recent struggles at Bologna and Sunday proved no different. Riccardo Orsolini's stoppage-time bicycle kick lifted Bologna to a 1-0 victory over the Serie A leader and left the Nerazzurri level with second-placed Napoli with five rounds remaining. Advertisement The defeat brought back memories of a goalkeeping blunder by Ionut Radu that gifted Bologna a victory three years ago, setting up the title for rival AC Milan. Inter also lost at Bologna the next season in a rain storm. Inter won at Bologna last season but spent so much energy it couldn't recover in time before getting eliminated by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League four days later. This time, the match was decided when a long throw-in was flicked on by Inter defender Yann Bisseck toward Orsolini, who turned it in with an acrobatic left-footed volley to send the Renato Dall'Ara into delirium. Inter is chasing a treble this season and also faces big upcoming games in the Champions League and Italian Cup, but coach Simone Inzaghi had labeled the Bologna visit as the biggest match of the season. Advertisement Now the Nerazzurri are deadlocked with Antonio Conte's Napoli team, which isn't involved in any other competitions and can devote all of its energy toward chasing a second title in three years. Napoli won 1-0 at last-placed Monza on Saturday to heap more pressure onto Inter. Bologna moved up to fourth, one point ahead of Juventus, which visits Parma on Monday. Inter next faces Milan in the second leg of the Italian Cup semifinals on Wednesday (the first leg finished 1-1). Then after Roma visits the San Siro next weekend, Inter travels to face Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals. Advertisement And there could be another meeting with Bologna in the Cup final, after Bologna beat Empoli 3-0 in the first leg of the other semifinal. AC Milan facing Atalanta Earlier, Empoli and Venezia drew 2-2 – leaving both clubs in the relegation zone. Milan was hosting Atalanta later Sunday. ___ AP soccer:
