2025 Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider Review

The 2025 Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider arrives as a spiritual successor to the 812 GTS, continuing Ferrari's commitment to naturally aspirated V12 performance. This convertible supercar combines exhilarating speed, cutting-edge technology, and an open-top driving experience, offering a balance of track-ready aggression and long-distance grand touring comfort. Exterior Design The Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider represents a bold departure from Ferrari's traditional V12 roadster design, blending heritage-inspired styling with futuristic aerodynamic enhancements. Influenced by Ferrari's classic open-top GTs from the 1950s and 1960s, the design language shifts away from muscularity and embraces clean lines and sculpted surfaces for a sleek, sophisticated aesthetic. At the front, slim wraparound headlights integrate seamlessly into the bodywork, replacing Ferrari's signature elongated headlamp design. The absence of a traditional grille contributes to the car's minimalist and high-tech visual identity. Along the sides, smooth surfaces and subtle sculpting reinforce the elegance of its proportions, while the rear features two adaptive aero flaps that actively optimize downforce and stability at high speeds. The Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, exclusively available in this size, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport or Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires. This setup ensures a perfect blend of grip, ride comfort, and everyday usability. With a dry weight of 1,620 kg, Ferrari has meticulously balanced lightness and structural rigidity, ensuring agile handling and stability. For open-top driving enthusiasts, the retractable hardtop (RHT) takes just 14 seconds to operate and can be deployed at speeds of up to 45 km/h, providing the perfect transition between a coupe-like experience and open-air exhilaration. Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider Interior Ferrari's driver-centric approach is evident in the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider's cabin, which follows the dual-cockpit concept, ensuring both the driver and passenger are fully immersed in the experience. The dashboard layout is sleek and minimalist, with floating design elements that enhance the sense of space and modernity. A 15.6-inch fully digital driver's display provides real-time performance data, while a 10.5-inch central touchscreen offers infotainment functions, navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Additionally, an 8.8-inch passenger-side screen allows co-drivers to stay engaged with performance metrics and navigation controls. Luxury and sustainability converge in the cabin materials, where Ferrari has incorporated Alcantara upholstery made from 65% recycled polyester, paired with premium leather and metal finishes. The steering wheel features Ferrari's latest capacitive-touch controls, improving functionality while maintaining an uncluttered racing-inspired layout. For those who appreciate premium sound, Ferrari offers an optional Burmester audio system, boasting 15 speakers and a 1,600-watt output, ensuring an immersive in-car experience. Mechanical Specifications At the heart of the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider lies Ferrari's legendary 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, producing 830 PS (819 hp) and 678 Nm of torque. This F140HD engine delivers power seamlessly to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), offering 30% faster shifts than its predecessor in the 812 GTS. The performance figures are nothing short of astonishing: 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds 0-200 km/h in under 7.9 seconds Top speed exceeding 340 km/h Ferrari's engineers have fine-tuned the powertrain with Aspirated Torque Shaping (ATS), optimizing throttle response in mid-range gears, while a variable geometry intake system enhances airflow efficiency. Additionally, the engine's advanced direct fuel injection system ensures optimal combustion, reducing emissions while maintaining Ferrari's signature high-revving character. Driving Dynamics and Performance The 12Cilindri Spider is engineered to deliver unparalleled driving engagement, incorporating Ferrari's most advanced chassis and electronic systems to date. Key features include: Side Slip Control 8.0 (SSC 8.0): Enhances traction and cornering stability , particularly on low-friction surfaces . Enhances , particularly on . Virtual Short Wheelbase 3.0 (PCV 3.0): Improves agility and maneuverability at both low and high speeds . Improves at both . Four-wheel independent steering (4WS): Enables each rear wheel to turn independently , enhancing high-speed stability and low-speed precision . Enables , enhancing . ABS Evo braking system: Works with 6D sensors to ensure shorter stopping distances and precise braking response. The magnetorheological adaptive suspension optimizes comfort and control, making the 12Cilindri Spider not only a track-capable supercar but also a long-distance GT cruiser. Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider Price With its naturally aspirated V12 powerplant, open-top thrills, and cutting-edge technology, the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider is positioned as a premium offering in Ferrari's lineup. The estimated base price starts at $510,000, with additional customization options pushing the price higher depending on specifications and market variations.

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 at Lightning Lap 2025

From the March/April 2025 issue of Car and Driver. Class: LL4 | Base: $196,550 | As Tested: $209,450 Power and Weight: 557 hp • 4235 lb • 7.3 lb/hp Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport S5; F: 295/30ZR-21 (102Y) MO1, R: HL305/30ZR-21 (107Y) MO1 Whether it be around your belly or on four wheels, extra weight is never a good thing. The latest Mercedes-AMG GT63 coupe is heavy at 4235 pounds—567 more than the previous GT R—and we can't help but wonder why these AMGs have packed on so much weight. Apparently, all-wheel drive and a back seat are a hearty meal, but despite being hefty, the GT63 is a joy to push to its high limits. It hides its mass with a rear axle that steers, adding nimbleness in slow corners and stability in high-speed bends. Put it in Race mode and toggle on the Master stability-control setting, and you'll feel confident getting up to speed quickly. The steering gives back just enough to keep the driver in the loop. It's easy to find this car's limits and stay there. The GT's 2:50.3 lap outguns the mechanically identical SL's by 2.3 seconds despite that both cars have 577 horsepower. Putting all the horses to work out of corners is easy, and the large optional carbon-ceramic rotors absorbed the abuse leveled at them. The biggest difference between the SL and the GT is the tires. The SL rolled on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber; for the GT, Michelin's new Pilot Sport S5 got the call. This is our first experience with the Pilot Sport S5 at VIR. The new S5s provide more grip everywhere. Exiting the downhill right dubbed Hog Pen, the GT is 2.0 mph faster than the SL and stays ahead all the way down the Front Straight. In Turn 1, the GT hangs on at 1.07 g's, up 0.04 on the SL, and leaves the corner faster too. Added grip aside, the tires' consistency and resistance to fatigue over an 18.5-gallon tank impressed us. We wish the brake pedal showed the same steadiness, as it grew softer as we stacked on the laps. The forthcoming GT63 Pro's upgraded brakes have the potential to remedy that problem, but we'll be more interested in its Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. And, hopefully, the Pro gets a prescription for Ozempic.
