A video has surfaced on social media showing a man punching through a car window in broad daylight on the Gold Coast . The footage shows traffic at a standstill on Currumburra Road in Ashmore as the driver of a silver Volkswagen ute is punched through the window of his car by another driver standing in the middle of the road. The ute is then seen to make an illegal U-turn, driving over a median strip to pull up in front of a white Holden Commodore sedan. The video has been viewed more than three million times on Facebook. Police are investigating despite not receiving a complaint. Caught in the act: New mobile cameras to combat youth crime and vandalism

Young people breaking into cars, teens setting off flares in lifts and targeting properties have triggered a major crackdown on youth crime. A fleet of mobile security cameras is being rolled out across Brisbane aimed at stopping trouble in its tracks and helping police respond faster. Brisbane City Council is ramping up efforts to tackle youth crime, introducing 26 high-resolution, solar-powered CCTV units to target vandalism, theft, and antisocial behaviour. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today The move follows growing concerns about young offenders, with recent incidents involving children as young as nine allegedly attempting to break into cars with help from older individuals. In other cases, teenagers have reportedly engaged in reckless behaviour in public spaces, including setting off flares and discharging fire extinguishers — sparking alarm among police and community leaders. Unlike fixed CCTV units, the new mobile cameras are part of the CitySafe network and can be quickly relocated to crime hotspots or areas of concern. 'This program will allow local councillors to relocate the cameras to different areas in their local community where there's concerns about safety,' Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told 7NEWS. Each unit can run for up to a week without recharging and stream live footage to council's monitoring centre — which is already home to feeds from more than 3000 existing CitySafe cameras. The initiative has the backing of Queensland Police Service, helping to direct law enforcement resources. 'Being notified when offences are occurring ... it enables us to keep the community safe and ensure offenders are prosecuted,' Inspector Michelle Piket said. From property damage to thefts in parks and libraries, council says the cameras will act as both a deterrent and a tool for rapid police response. 'Within the space of an hour, if a situation arises we can relocate the cameras to a different location,' Schrinner said. He added locals can expect to see the new cameras in parks, along bikeways, and in busy public spaces. Stream free on
