Popular band fined $36,000 for performing songs glorifying Mexican drug cartels
Why Trump is pushing military help for Mexico to help fight cartels Why Trump is pushing military help for Mexico Why Trump is pushing military help for Mexico A popular Mexican band has been fined more than $36,000 for performing songs glorifying drug cartels, authorities in the northern city of Chihuahua announced Wednesday. At a Los Tucanes de Tijuana performance on Saturday, nearly a third of their songs were "narcocorridos" glamorizing drug traffickers, according to city official Pedro Oliva. The songs "glorified crime or alluded to the perpetrators of illegal acts," Oliva said in a television interview. Los Tucanes were banned from performing in their home city Tijuana from 2008 to 2023 for alleged shoutouts to two drug traffickers during a concert. Los Tucanes de Tijuana attend The 23rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards at Michelob ULTRA Arena on November 17, 2022 in Las Vegas, The Latin Recording Academy Several states across the country have imposed restrictions on the controversial subgenre of regional music, which is growing rapidly, even beyond Mexico's borders. In April, the ban sparked a riot during a concert after a singer refused to perform some of his most popular songs. Peso Pluma, who blends corridos with rap and hip-hop, was the seventh most-streamed artist in the world in 2024, according to Spotify. President Claudia Sheinbaum has rejected the idea of banning "narcocorridos," preferring to launch a music competition "for peace and against addictions" to counter the influence of drug culture among young people. Two months ago, the United States revoked the visas of the band Los Alegres del Barranco for showing images of a wanted drug lord during a concert. "I'm a firm believer in freedom of expression, but that doesn't mean that expression should be free of consequences," U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said at the time. "The last thing we need is a welcome mat for people who extol criminals and terrorists." At the end of May, members of Grupo Firme canceled a concert in the United States, saying their visas were under "administrative review" by the U..S embassy. Musicians in Mexico sometimes get caught up in cartel violence themselves. Last month, the bodies of five Mexican musicians from the band Grupo Fugitivo, were found in Reynosa along the Texas border. At least nine alleged cartel members were arrested and later drugs and weapons were seized in connection to the murders. In January this year, a small plane was reported to have dropped pamphlets on a northwestern city threatening around 20 music artists and influencers for alleged dealings with a warring faction of the Sinaloa drug cartel. In 2018, armed men kidnapped two members of the musical group "Los Norteños de Río Bravo," whose bodies were later found on the federal highway connecting Reynosa to Río Bravo, Tamaulipas. In 2013, 17 musicians from the group Kombo Kolombia were executed by alleged cartel members in the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon, allegedly because of links to a rival gang.

Anheuser-Busch InBev Profit Jumps as Beermaker Cuts Costs
Anheuser-Busch InBev's profit almost doubled as the beer giant reduced costs. Selling, general, and administrative expenses fell nearly 6%. The company's first quarter revenue missed forecasts as volumes decreased.U.S.-listed shares of Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) gained Thursday as the world's biggest beer brewer easily beat earnings estimates as lower costs offset falling volumes. The maker of brands including Budweiser and Michelob reported first-quarter net profit of $2.15 billion, nearly double what it was a year ago. Analysts surveyed by Visible Alpha were looking for $1.66 billion. Revenue rose 1.5% year-over-year to $13.63 billion, short of forecasts. AB InBev's selling, general, and administrative expenses (SG&A) decreased nearly 6% to $4.19 billion. The company pointed to disciplined resource allocation, overhead management, and optimization of capital expenditures for the decline. Beer sales declined in the U.S., Europe, and China, but they gained in Latin America and South Africa. Total beer and non-beer volume dipped 2.2%, which the company blamed on "calendar-related factors such as cycling the leap year selling-day benefit in 1Q24 and Easter shipment phasing." CEO Michel Doukeris said that the consistent execution of AB InBev's strategy "drove a solid start to the year and reinforces our confidence in delivering on our outlook for 2025." Following the report, U.S.-listed shares of AB InBev rose about 2.5% to trade at their 2025 high. Read the original article on Investopedia Sign in to access your portfolio

UFC 314 Main Event: Volkanovski Vs. Lopes Odds, Predictions And Picks
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: (L-R) Opponents Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes face off during ... More the UFC 314 press conference at Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) The stacked UFC 314 fight card is nearly here. That pay-per-view event takes place on Saturday, April 12, at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. A featherweight matchup between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes headlines the event. The 145-pound scrap will crown the next UFC featherweight champion. The UFC 314 co-main event is a pivotal lightweight matchup between former UFC title challenger Michael Chandler and the rising Paddy Pimblett. Also on the main card of UFC 314 is a featherweight contest between Bryce Mitchell and the surging Jean Silva. The PPV also sees former Bellator champion Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire making his promotional debut opposite former UFC featherweight title challenger Yair Rodriguez. Below, we look at the betting odds, betting line movement, picks, and predictions for the Volkanovski vs. Lopes fight. The winner of the UFC 314 main event will walk away from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida with the UFC featherweight title over their shoulder. In announcing Volkanovski vs. Lopes, UFC CEO Dana White said of the soon to be former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, 'Topuria has felt like he's done all he can in that division, and he feels like he's cemented his legacy, and his body cannot make the weight anymore. So Topuria will be moving up to 155 pounds and will be vacating the featherweight title. … As soon as the first punch is thrown in (Volkanovski vs. Lopes), the title is vacated. We will announce what Topuria's next fight will be when we get it done.' Volkanovski (26-4) is a former UFC featherweight champion. He held the title from December 2019 through February 2024, defending the belt five times over that time. His reign began with a unanimous decision win over Max Holloway and ended in a knockout loss to Topuria in February 2024. During his run with the 145-pound belt, Volkanovski twice fought for the UFC lightweight belt, losing to Islam Makhachev in February and October 2023. Makhachev won the first meeting by decision. He followed that with a knockout victory. Volkanovski has not stepped into the Octagon since his loss to Topuria. He is the No. 1 fighter in the official UFC featherweight rankings. Lopes (26-6) is the No. 3 fighter in the UFC's 145-pound weight class. Lopes joined the UFC in May 2023, dropping his promotional debut to Movsar Evloev via decision. Since then, Lopes is unbeaten in five fights. His most recent victory was a UFC 306 decision win over two-time UFC title challenger Brian Ortega. When the betting line opened for the UFC 314 main event, Volkanovski was listed as the -151 betting favorite over Lopes, who opened as the +131 betting underdog. The betting for the contest has shifted, but not much. Today, Volkanovski is a -122 favorite over the +102 Lopes. *Odds via BetOnline UFC Fight Card Schedule For April 2025: Including UFC 314 LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: Diego Lopes is seen on stage during the UFC 314 press conference at ... More conference at Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Volkanovski is facing two issues heading into UFC 314. First, he is older than 35. That age has been a barrier for fighter under 170 pounds when it comes to winning UFC titles. Second, no UFC fighter has ever come back from two knockout defeats to claim UFC gold. However, Volkanovski is one of the best to ever compete in the UFC's 145-pound weight class, so those two sticking points might be little more than reference material to cite when discussing the main event of UFC 314. Lopes is a very talented fighter, and he might be a future UFC champion, but he won't win that title on Saturday. Lopes lacks the poise, control, fight IQ, coachability and ability to make in-fight adjustments of his opponent. Lopes will have his moments in this contest, but in the end this fight will serve as more of a learning experience for him and his team. They will leave Florida without the title, but they will have a wealth of knowledge to carry with them for the next time Lopes competes for UFC gold — and he will fight for UFC gold again. The betting pick for the UFC 314 main event is for Alexander Volkanovski to win the vacant UFC featherweight title via decision. UFC 314 Fight Card Odds And Predictions: Rodriguez Vs. Freire UFC 314 Fight Card Odds And Predictions: Bryce Mitchell Vs. Jean Silva UFC 314 Co-Main Event Odds And Predictions: Chandler Vs. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Michael Chandler (23-9) missed a lot of time over the past few years waiting for a bout opposite Conor McGregor to come together. With that fight looking less likely by the day, Chandler returned to the Octagon on November 2024 to face former UFC champion Charles Oliveira. It was Chandler's first foray into the cage since a 2022 loss to Dustin Poirier. Oliveira downed Chandler via decision at UFC 309. Chandler joined the UFC in 2021 after a long and successful tenure with Bellator. As a competitor for that promotion from 2010 through 2020, Chandler was a three-time lightweight champion. He defended the title twice during his first run with the belt and once during his second stint as champ. His third run as Bellator lightweight champ ended with a TKO loss to Patricio "Pitbull" Freire, who is making his UFC debut at UFC 314. Chandler is 2-4 with the UFC, but outside his 2022 matchup against a fading Tony Ferguson, the 38-year-old has only faced the elite of the division. In addition to his bouts against Poirier and Oliveira, he has met Dan Hooker and Justin Gaethje inside the Octagon. Chandler's UFC wins came against Hooker (TKO) and Ferguson (knockout). The former Bellator champ is the No. 7 ranked competitor in the official UFC lightweight rankings. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Paddy Pimblett (22-3) is a former Cage Warriors lightweight champion. He has slowly been working his way up the UFC rankings since making his promotional debut in September 2021. Now 6-0 with the UFC, Pimblett looks to take a step up in competition against Chandler. Pimblett is coming off a UFC 304 'Performance of the Night' bonus-winning submission win over Bobby Green. Pimblett had a successful run with the Cage Warriors promotion before he joined the UFC in 2021. During his time with Cage Warriors, which spanned 2013 through 2021, Pimblett won and defended the CW featherweight title and fought for that promotion's lightweight crown. Pimblett has been a fan favorite since he made his UFC debut and while some have been critical of the matchmaking the UFC have provided for Pimblett, something he addressed at the UFC 314 pre-fight press conference, Pimblett is in for a big test against Chandler. Pimblett is the No. 12 ranked UFC 155-pound fighter. We will have more on UFC 314 Volkanovski vs. Lopes scrap as fight night nears, as well as live results, reactions, highlights and more for the UFC 314 pay-per-view card on fight night.

UFC 314 Fight Card Odds And Predictions: Bryce Mitchell Vs. Jean Silva
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: (L-R) Opponents Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva face off during the UFC ... More 314 press conference at Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) This weekend's UFC 314 fight card is stacked. At the top of the pay-per-view event is a featherweight battle between former champion Alexander Volkanovski and the fast-rising Diego Lopes. The winner of that contest takes home the vacant UFC featherweight title. Meanwhile, in the co-main event of UFC 314, Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett face off in a pivotal lightweight matchup. Before the headlining bouts is an important 145-pound meeting between Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva. UFC 314 takes place on Saturday, April 12, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Below, we look at the picks, predictions, and betting odds for the UFC 314 fight card Mitchell vs. Silva matchup. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: Bryce Mitchell is seen on stage during the UFC 314 press conference at ... More Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Bryce Mitchell (17-2) was 9-0 and coming off a defense of the V3 Fights featherweight title when Mitchell appeared on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Mitchell defeated Jay Cucciniello in the opening round of that competition, but Brad Katona submitted Mitchell in the semifinals. Despite that (exhibition) loss, the UFC signed Mitchell to a contract. Mitchell opened his UFC career with six wins, including a December 2019 twister submission victory over Matt Sayles. Mitchell broke into the official UFC rankings during that winning streak with a decision win over Charles Rosa on the UFC 249 early prelims. That victory put him at No. 15 in the UFC's featherweight division. Mitchell climbed to No. 9 in those rankings with decision triumphs over Andre Fili and Edson Barboza. He held that ranking and a perfect 15-0 record when he stepped into the Octagon in December 2022 to face the No. 14 ranked Ilia Topuria, who was 4-0 in the UFC at the time. Topuria put the first blemish on Mitchell's record, submitting him at 3:10 of the first round. Following the loss to Topuria, Mitchell bounced back with a September 2023 decision over Dan Ige. Mitchell returned to the loss column in his next outing. In that contest, Josh Emmett scored a nasty first-round knockout win over Mitchell, which left Mitchell out cold for an unsettling amount of time. Following the loss to Emmett, Mitchell wisely took off for almost a full calendar year. When he returned to action in December 2024, he scored a knockout win over Kron Gracie at UFC 310, the same card when Topuria defended the UFC featherweight title. Heading into UFC 314, Mitchell might be best known for claiming on his podcast, '…I honestly think Hitler was a good guy based upon my own research, not my public education indoctrination.' Mitchell was booed during the UFC 314 pre-fight press conference. His first public appearance since making that statement. Today, Mitchell is the No. 13 ranked UFC featherweight. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: Jean Silva is seen on stage during the UFC 314 press conference at ... More Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) A member of The Fighting Nerds team out of Brazil, Jean Silva (15-2) joined the UFC in September 2023 when he scored a UFC contract thanks to a decision win over Kevin Vallejos on a Dana White's Contender Series card. Silva extended his winning streak to eight straight with his win over Vallejos. Vallejos, who signed with the UFC following a 2024 DWCS win, is the last fighter to go the distance with Silva. Since his DWCS win, Silva has picked up four knockout victories and two fight-night bonus awards. Silva is coming off a February first-round knockout win over Melsik Baghdasaryan. Before that, he defeated UFC veteran Drew Dober at lightweight. I wrote of that win, "Jean Silva took a chance. After knocking out Charles Jourdain in late June, the 27-year-old moved up to lightweight to face hard-hitting Drew Dober on the main card of UFC Denver. That chance paid off when Silva picked up a third-round TKO win over Dober. "Silva might not have had the power of his opponent, but he had a speed advantage and the ability to counter Dober well. Silva's spinning techniques and elbows did a lot of damage, leaving Dober with a massive gash over his right eyebrow, which led to the fight being stopped late in the third stanza. 'Silva is 3-0 since he joined the UFC with all his wins coming by knockout. Each of those victories has come in 2024.' During the UFC 314 press conference, Silva seemed to get under Mitchell's skin, first by bringing a globe to the event to poke fun at Mitchell's flat earth beliefs and then by leading a profane chant against his opponent. Silva does not appear in the UFC rankings. A win over Mitchell at UFC 314 will change that. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 07: (L-R) Opponents Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva face off during the UFC ... More Michelob ULTRA Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) The easy thing to do with this fight would be to look at how Josh Emmett destroyed Bryce Mitchell. The problem with that is that it discounts Emmett's wrestling skills. In that loss, Mitchell did not attempt a takedown for the first time in his career. One reason for that might have been that the fight lasted under two minutes. Another reason might have been because Emmett is a good wrestler and Mitchell respected his wrestling and his power. Don't expect Mitchell to worry about Silva's takedown defense. With that being said, Silva has stopping power in his strikes. If Mitchell gets sloppy or gives Silva an opening, he will land damaging blows. Let's not forget that each of his UFC fights have ended via knockout. Silva needs to be aware of Mitchell's takedown attempts and superb ground skills, while looking to exploit Mitchell's not great striking game. If he can do that, Silva should have success, and with each round starting on the feet, Silva will have the opportunity to do damage. The betting pick is Silva to win via knockout, but there is betting value in picking Mitchell to win via submission. UFC 314 Fight Card Odds And Predictions: Rodriguez Vs.
