Madonna limited series directed by Shawn Levy in the works at Netflix

A television series on Madonna is in development at Netflix – with participation from the trailblazing pop star. The 66-year-old singer is partnering with Netflix and the Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for a limited series about her life and music. The as-yet untitled project, first reported by Deadline, is unrelated to a previously announced musical biopic co-written by the singer that was set to star Julia Garner. That film, which lingered for years in development at Universal and reportedly employed a grueling bootcamp to audition some of the industry's top young actors, was officially scrapped in 2023. It is still unclear what part of Madonna's life the new TV project, still in early development at the streaming company, would portray, or who would play the Michigan-bred star. Though the film project's cancellation was announced just days after she confirmed her globe-spanning the Celebration tour, Madonna reportedly still sought to have her life portrayed on screen, with sources telling Variety that she remained 'committed to making a film about her life one day'. 'I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,' she said in 2020. 'There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. 'It's essential to share the rollercoaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.' Madonna co-wrote two drafts of the film's script – one with Diablo Cody, with whom she co-hosted an unconventional Instagram Live writing session in late 2020, and one with The Girl on the Train's scribe, Erin Cressida Wilson. Ozark star Garner won the role over the likes of Alexa Demie, Florence Pugh, Bebe Rexha and Odessa Young after a tough series of singing and dancing bootcamps widely reported in the press. Read More Zaid Al-Qassab to leave Channel 4 The singer's most recent album, 2019's Madame X, became the ninth No 1 of her career when it premiered atop the Billboard 200. Her Celebration tour, which ran from October 2023 to May 2024, was one of the fastest-selling tours of all time, with more than 1.2m tickets sold. She ultimately made $225.4m from the 80 shows, playing to an estimated 1.1 million people.

Kid Rock to open Detroit Cowboy restaurant where Joe Muer Nashville was

Michigan-bred musician Kid Rock is getting back into the hospitality business with the opening of a new restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, next week. The Detroit Cowboy is set to open May 5 at 500 11th Avenue N. in Nashville where Joe Muer's Nashville location was, according to its website, which touts the tagline 'go where you're celebrated, not tolerated.' The branding alludes to a partnership between Kid Rock and Joe Muer, an iconic name in Detroit restaurant history. Andiamo owner Joe Vicari bought the Joe Muer name and all its intellectual properties and recipes in the 2010s. The 12,000-square-foot restaurant opened as Joe Muer Nashville in 2023. 'Joe Muer Seafood in Nashville is signing off,' reads a statement on the website. 'But we hope to see you at the Detroit Cowboy!' Kid Rock promoted the Detroit Cowboy on Instagram Tuesday. 'A small group of very bad people thought they cancelled me and my restaurant in Detroit in 2020 … all you dumbasses did was hurt the city I LOVE.' The musician licensed his name to the music-themed restaurant Kid Rock's Made in Detroit at the Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit, which was open from 2017 to 2020. ___ © 2025 The Detroit News. Comedian Sandra Bernhard panics audience with 'heart attack' on stage

Sandra Bernhard began her five-night residency at Café Carlyle in New York City on Tuesday evening. During her debut performance, the 69-year-old comedian — who once counted Madonna as a close friend — revealed to the audience she recently had open-heart surgery. 'It was a planned surgery; it wasn't that dramatic,' the actress noted before mentioning other patients in the hospital who were in grave condition. 'This s**t is crazy. I'm gonna pull through and get the f*** out of here,' she said, according to an account from Billboard. Bernhard moved the show along, before later returning to the subject to use it as an unexpected punchline. She clutched her chest and slumped over, simulating a heart attack before quipping, 'That's a new party trick.' In addition to cracking jokes, the multihyphenate entertainer sang a selection of cover songs with her Sandyland Squad Band. Together, they covered recognizable tunes including McFadden & Whitehead's Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now and Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful. Sandra's partner of more than two decades, Sara Switzer, was part of the 90-person audience during opening night. On Wednesday she took to Instagram, where she boasts nearly 200,000 followers, and reflected on her first show. Last night @cafecarlyle [was] fun as hell. The band was beautiful, the crowd divine. I'm there tonight through Saturday. Won't you come join us?' she captioned. 'I would if I were you!' she added before crediting her band and her hair and makeup team. For the occasion the Michigan-bred beauty wore a coordinating orange and red top and skirt covered in large round sequins. Her shoulder-length ginger-toned locks were parted down the middle and styled in bouncy ringlets. Cafe Carlyle also promoted her stint at the venue with a supportive social media post. 'Sandra Bernhard made her Café Carlyle debut last night and brought the house down with her one-woman show,' the Instagram account touted. The note continued, 'With her signature mix of cabaret, comedy, and cultural commentary, she delivered razor sharp wit and unapologetic satire.' The post concluded, 'There's only one @sandragbernhard and she's live through May 3.'

Scantily-clad Lizzo takes stage with Paris Hilton at Stagecoach after revealing secret to her dramatic weight loss

Lizzo joined Paris Hilton on stage at Stagecoach country music festival on Friday. Lizzo, who revealed this week how she accomplished her dramatic weight loss, showed off her slimmed down figure in a flesh-baring black outfit. The 36-year-old Still Bad singer flaunted her cleavage in a semi-sheer bodysuit, adding a netted maxi skirt. She added supersize hoop earrings and Y2K-inspired frameless glasses while rocking a voluminous, combed-out afro. Paris, 44, brought Lizzo out during her set at Diplo's Honky Tonk, for which she dressed in a plunging, white, studded bodysuit and matching chaps with blue star accoutrements. Her signature blonde hair was slicked into two long, straight pigtails and she wore bedazzled silver headphones. The mother-of-two, who is married to Carter Reum, accessorized with a sparkly choker and star drop earrings. Paris was active on Instagram throughout the day, getting her 26.8 million followers excited for her performance. Lizzo's appearance comes amid her stunning weight loss, which she opened up about on TikTok this week. The Michigan-bred musician, real name Melissa Jefferson, explained that she shed pounds by avoiding sugary foods she used to regularly indulge in. She broke her Starbucks habit, she said, which included drinking 'two to three' large drinks a day. The pop star estimated the beverages accounted for about 1200 calories in her daily diet. Jefferson, who revealed in January she lost 16% of her body fat, said she still has sweets, but is more mindful of what they are. 'I do something sweet. It's gotta be with some sort of carb. I'll have almond butter and toast. Everybody's body is different. Find out what works for you,' she said. In early April she was a guest on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, where she referred to her body transformation as a 'weight release journey.' Addressing her shrinking frame, she declared, 'I have been on an intentional weight release journey.' The About Damn Time songwriter said about her fans' shocked reaction to her slimmer figure, 'I put it on the internet. I posted about it, and I think over the last year and a half, as I've been doing it, my body has been changing — very slowly — but I don't think people were paying attention.' She continued, 'I was still very anti-fatphobia on this entire journey. But I think that we gotta remember: everybody's not seeing your sh*t all the time, everybody's not seeing every video you post, everybody's not privy to what you're going through.' Lizzo shot to fame in 2019, when she was much heavier, and quickly became an outspoken voice for body positivity.
