A 19-year-old man was arrested for speeding and other charges after eluding police while on the way to a job interview Azmir Djurkovic was pursued by Connecticut State Police on June 4; however, the officer on the scene called off the chase due to unsafe conditions He was later identified as the driver and surrendered himself to officers in Hartford, Conn.A man learned a hard lesson about leaving enough time to make it to a job interview after he was pursued by police and later arrested for speeding, among other charges. On Wednesday, June 4, a 19-year-old man identified as Azmir Djurkovic surrendered himself to Connecticut State Police in Hartford, Conn., according to police. He did so after police reportedly recorded him reaching speeds over 130 MPH while driving on Interstate 91 South in Cromwell around 8:54 local time that morning. According to a statement shared on CSP's website, an officer noticed a Mercedes E300 "traveling at a high rate of speed, faster than the flow of traffic." The report noted that the officer believed the vehicle was reaching speeds over 100 MPH with a police laser confirming that it was moving at approximately 132 MPH. The officer pursued the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. However, the statement noted that the driver "accelerated away while making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic." At the time, the officer decided to end his pursuit "due to the hazard posed to the public." However, police tracked the car and reached out to its registered owner, who informed CSP that they were not behind the wheel at the time. Djurkovic was identified as the driver, and police made contact. He reportedly "admitted to driving and stated he did not stop because he was late for a job interview." He's been charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, failure to maintain lane, passing on the right, improper turn, passing at an unsafe distance, engaging police in a pursuit, interfering with an officer and reckless endangerment in the first degree. He was released on a bond of $2,500 but is due in court at Middletown Superior Court on June 17 to be arraigned. It is not clear if Djurkovic managed to get the job. 19-year-old late to job interview drives 130 mph, outruns trooper, CT police say
A 19-year-old driving 132 mph outran a state trooper on a Connecticut highway, then later explained that he was late to a job interview, police said. The Cromwell resident, who was driving a relative's car, has been charged with nine offenses, Connecticut State Police said in a June 4 news release. Cromwell is about a 15-mile drive south from Hartford. Information on the 19-year-old's legal representation wasn't immediately available. When the state trooper noticed a speeding Mercedes in Cromwell along Interstate 91 shortly before 9 a.m. June 4, they switched on their emergency lights and went to pull the driver over, according to police. However, the driver, later identified as the 19-year-old, sped away from the trooper 'while making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic,' police said. He led the trooper on a chase until the trooper stopped the pursuit because of the danger to other drivers, according to authorities. State police learned the Mercedes was owned by the 19-year-old's family member, who said their relative was driving the morning of June 4, police said. The relative's tip led troopers to find the 19-year-old's phone number the same day, according to authorities. After giving him a call, police said he mentioned his job interview as the reason he outran a trooper. The 19-year-old was arrested, according to police, on charges of: Reckless drivingDisobeying an officer's signalFailure to maintain lanePassing on the rightImproper turnPassing at an unsafe distanceEngaging police in a pursuitInterfering with an officerReckless endangerment in the first degree He's due in Middletown Superior Court on June 17 after he was 'released on a $2,500 bond,' police said.

Woman who eluded trooper on Route 9 arrested after crashing into another motorist
A woman with a suspended license in an unregistered vehicle fled from a state trooper who tried to pull her over on Saturday on Route 9 in Deep River only to be found not long after when she was involved in a crash. The trooper was conducting traffic enforcement when they saw the driver of an Acura TL on Route 9 South and found that the license plate on the car showed it was not registered, according to Connecticut State Police. The trooper then got behind the Acura, which prompted the driver to make an abrupt U-turn and start heading north, state police said. The trooper followed the Acura and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop and began going 'reckless speeds,' according to state police. The trooper abandoned the stop and later learned that the Acura was involved in a crash. The vehicle was found in the left lane of Route 9 where it had rear ended another motorist, state police said. The driver of the Acura was identified as 37-year-old Meghan Lewonczyk of Manchester. According to state police, she allegedly admitted that she had fled the traffic stop earlier because she did not have a license and was in an uninsured and unregistered vehicle. The trooper found that her license was suspended. Lewonczyk was taken into custody and charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of registration, operating under suspension, reckless driving, disobeying signal of an officer, operating a motor vehicle while using a handheld device and failure to insure a private motor vehicle. She was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Feb. 21.
